Saudi Arabia, Turkey Discussing Unlikely Alliance To Oust Syria's Assad

Turkey and Saudi Arabia, two nations with a long history of rivalry, are in high-level talks with the goal of forming a military alliance to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

The talks are being brokered by Qatar. As the partnership is currently envisioned, Turkey would provide ground troops, supported by Saudi Arabian airstrikes, to assist moderate Syrian opposition fighters against Assad's regime, according to one of the sources.

President Barack Obama was made aware of the talks in February by the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al Thani, during the emir's visit to the White House, one source said. A White House spokesperson declined to comment.

The US continues to promote more wars. This time using our allies (?) as proxies. WTF is going on here? It is insanity and we seem hell bent on starting WWIII, that is officially. I think we have been in WWIII for some time, at least economically.

The first thought that came to mind when I read this is that since the 2016 Presidential election campaign season has officially begun, Obama has decided to push our allies into doing our dirty work for us so that it does not appear that the US has begun another unpopular war. I just want to throw up right now.

mainstream propaganda. It used to at least pretend didn't it? I read it years ago, probably five or six now but
stopped when it was becoming mainstream. That article is the same thing that would be posted on the NY Times or
Wash Post. I should say I'm surprised but it's pretty common now in the "alternative" media.

I think we have to view it as 100% mainstream now. And even before that, Arianna Huffington wasn't exactly Bill Moyers or Amy Goodman.

I correspond occasionally with one of the reporters who wrote this story. It's an important story, IMO, especially now that Obama has signaled that he will sign the Corker Iran bill. All the pieces are falling into place.

I thought the article left out key aspects of the situation, like U.S. and Israeli involvement like with Yemen.
The U.S. is obviously using Saudi Arabia and GCC states as proxies in the MENA battles, as has been the case
with Syria since the outset.
But this is dangerous news and Saudi Arabia is not doing well in Yemen or at home.

I'm not a regular at HuffPo. I was for the first couple of years. Kind of like Salon. But there is still good content at both places occasionally. Have you checked out the Cockburn's three part piece on Clinton II? The truth would hurt if the fog of denial and magical thinking weren't so thick.
