Susan Sarandon was wrong to not vote for Hillary
I don’t know why Susan Sarandon is trending. I don’t care. But here is a reminder of who she is. https://t.co/MGuqMK1l05
— April (@ReignOfApril) August 19, 2019
I’m Still Sorry I Listened To Susan Sarandon During The 2016 Election
There aren’t any matters that are currently more pressing than grappling with the fact that I listened to what actress Susan Sarandon had to say during the 2016 presidential election and did not vote for Hillary Clinton.
You may see a presidential administration that is going above and beyond to criminalize immigration. There are more migrants in camps or detention centers than ever before, but when I see the crying faces of children without their parents, I don’t think of Donald Trump. All I can think of is Louise and how she and Thelma drove their car off a cliff and that cliff was Donald Trump.
Just as Janet Weiss was seduced by the allure of the sex god, Rocky Horror, Sarandon was entranced by the political revolution promised by Bernie Sanders. Under the spell of the Berns, she became convinced that Clinton was dangerous and would start a war if elected. She also suggested that Trump’s election would lead to an explosive revolt, but that did not happen because Robert Mueller would never have approved and we needed his approval to have Mueller Time.
Years have gone by since Clinton did not travel to Wisconsin. All I can think of is how Sarandon still refuses to acknowledge the role she played in getting Trump elected. Her advocacy for Clinton would have made up for every failure committed by her campaign team, as they downplayed polling data that showed she was losing ground to a failing business tycoon.
While other factors, like stagnating wages and the impact of neoliberal globalization may be more responsible, focusing on the way in which Trump astutely exploited economic discontent could never give me the same satisfaction as piling on a movie actress who dissents from the liberal establishment.
If Susan Sarandon gave us Trump, does that mean Russian President Vladimir Putin and his merry band of Kremlin trolls were not responsible as well? Absolutely not. There can be many people we blame over and over and over again so we never have to accept the reality of what happened in this country.
Debra Messing and Neera Something Terrible are giving Susan Sarandon shit on Twitter and blaming her for Trump being president and not Hillary. This is so ridiculous because Herheinous got 3 million more votes than Trump did, but her campaign and her supporters want to blame Susan and Russia for her loss.
The question is “Would we have children in cages BUT FOR Trump.” If you say yes, you are being willfully ignorant. A celebrity Campaigning for a 3rd party candidate even when Bernie saw the danger of a racist, misogynistic Trump and said “You must vote for Hillary” shows https://t.co/yZuCryrsqn

On a side note I got put in Twitter jail tonight for calling Debra the Jane Curtain name and Hillary a warmonger and whore for the banks. Not sure which one did it.

April who?
Who is she, and why should we care?
I just love how they blame everyone EXCEPT people who, you know, actually VOTED FOR Trump!
This shit is bananas.
I think April is defending Sarandon
and the reasons she didn't vote for Hillary. I'm seeing lots of people being blamed for her loss instead of blaming Hillary for not bothering to campaign in the states she lost. And Russia of course.
Why don't they blame Obama?
4.4 million Obama voters stayed home in 2016.
Studies have shown that Obama to Trump voters range from about 6.7 million to 9.2 million. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/political_commentary/comm...
1.46 million voted Green in the general election.
Counties (in pink-red level of intensity) that flipped from Obama to Trump in 2016:
If all those people voted for Obama
but not Hillary then how did Hillary find so many votes? (Obama 12 - 65,900,000 Hillary 16 - 65,850,000 claimed) Answer? Well, there is the statistical answer - in the primary against Bernie she performed +35 when there was no paper trail, +2 when there was. The odds of that happening are 1 in 16,000,000,000,000,000,000. (I might be off by a 0 or two) Maybe it was just a fluke. Maybe it was just reality's turn.
On to Biden since 1973
A significant number of Romney voters switched to Clinton, too
Numbers have always given me headaches.
It looks like you've proved my point
13% of Obama's 66 million voters switched to Trump, (-8.58 million) while only 4% of Romney's 62 million voters switched to Hillary, (+2.48 million) yet somehow Hillary claimed to have gotten only 50,000 less votes. -8.58 million +2.48 million = -6.1 million, NOT -50 thousand. Methinks something stinks.
On to Biden since 1973
Every candidate should be courting Susan's vote
.
that's great
also, instead of spending billions on the campaign just hire the Russians at $100,000.
LMAO

I'll admit here,
I've had a crush on Susan for a long time.
Ditto
Since she was Janet in rocky horror and again in Thelma and Louise and the hunger.
Raise your hand if you have gone to the movie where the audience plays out different characters during the show? I went to a few in San Francisco and it was a blast.
There was a movie theater near Eschenheimer Tor in Frankfurt / M
that I liked to go to to see American films in Originalfassung (= soundtrack with the original cast’s voices in English rather than German-dubbed ones). Place was torn down over ten years ago, the building it was in got sold and turned into a luxury hotel. Memory’s a little hazy, but I think the last movie I saw there was Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.
For a while back in the 1980s, an 11 p.m. showing of Rocky Horror every Saturday night was a fixture there, with the usual audience participation by devoted regulars. Took part in costume twice during that period.
It’s just a jump to the left!
My Rocky Horror experience was at a theater up in Hollywood
Not only did I find my interest in Tim Curry's sexually alluring performance confusing, but when me and my girlfriends left the theater we were chased by a trio of prostitutes who thought we were horning in on their territory.
It was after midnight, I was 16 years old and my Mother thought I was at a sleepover.
It's just a jump to the right.

So, I don't wanna break all y'alls hearts ...
(oh, who am i kidding, of course i do ...), but there is a much, much better movie than The Rocky Horror Picture Show, called Phantom of the Paradise. PotP came out a year before TRHPS, but a year after the stage version, The Rocky Horror Show -- meaning, the two works were almost completely independent, as PotP would have been well into production before anyone on the team could have possible seen even the stage version. I note this only because when I showed my now ex-wife PotP her response about halfway through was, "This is just a rip-off of Rocky Horror!" But it isn't.
PotP was a low budget movie by Brian De Palma -- his last movie before he hit the big time in '76 with Obsession and Carrie. In addition to having a brilliant young movie director (TRHPS was directed by a guy whose real strength was theatre), PotP's big advantages over TRHPS are:
A. A better cast. Yes, Sarandon is gorgeous but she doesn't do anything remarkable in TRHPS, and Currie might as well just be goofing around at a party. PotP has Gerrit Graham, Paul Williams and Jessica Harper, who may not be quite as lovely or accomplished an actress as Sarandon, but she's an excellent comedic actress (ever see My Favorite Year?), and she could easily sing Sarandon into a little box and snap the lid closed. (If you don't know who she is, well ... among other things, she played Janet in the sequel to TRHPS ...)
B. A better script. Let's face it, TRHPS hardly needs a script at all, and the one it has could have been written by a 10th grader on weed, instead of the guy who plays Riff Raff -- who did write it. PotP isn't Casablanca, but De Palma had already written 5 movies before PotP, and has written several more since, including Dressed to Kill and Blow Out. He's the real thing.
C. Incident to B, an actual plot with actual characters.
D. Better music. I mean, WAY better music. WAY WAY WAY better music. That same guy who played Riff Raff also wrote the songs for TRHPS. Yeah, sure, The Time Warp bops, but the rest of the songs are not very memorable -- you probably wouldn't remember them, if you didn't know them in the context of TRHPS. By contrast, all of the songs on PotP were written by Paul Williams, a pop music genius -- and PotP earned him an Oscar nomination for song score. Most of it is just as silly as in TRHPS, but it is just ... WAY better. PW effortlessly trips through at least half a dozen distinct American pop genres, and kills them all.

Epilogue: For reasons nobody understood then or now, the film flopped everywhere in North America except Winnipeg, Manitoba, where it played for 4 straight months at the Garrick Theatre (remember, this is before multiplexes). After that it kept popping up for short runs and weekend showings. Nobody threw anything, but everybody sang along, because most of them had seen the movie MANY times. The album went gold in Canada (EDIT:
500,00050,000+ copies, 20K of them in Winnipeg, which at the time had about 3% of Canada's population!), and one of the singles went to #1 ... in Winnipeg. Only in Winnipeg. Here is a pretty good accounting of the whole strange story.

Hope that doesn't that disappoint you
Jessica Harper. I actually do know who she is. When I was barely 20 years old, I was a Junior Executive Secretary for the Assistant to her Father, Paul Harper, former Chairman of Needham Harper Worldwide Advertising. When I would meet with Mr. Harper in the office (and that's exactly what I would call him) he'd talk about her movie parts and her singing. It was kinda sweet.
I remember a friend of mine had the Phantom album. I never saw the movie but used to listen to the songs with her. Williams was definitely a good song writer but I wasn't a big fan. Mostly because I was into Bowie. Who, let's face it, was much cooler.
There is always Music amongst the trees in the Garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it. ~ Minnie Aumonier
Yeah, but was Bowie cooler than Kermit the Frog?
Because Williams wrote the lyrics to this:
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0Hd3uWKFKY]
One of the strangest outcomes of Winnipeg's Phantomania was that Williams came for a concert, though at the time he wasn't known at all as a live performer -- mostly, he wrote songs for other people. According to that link I sent, his concert date at the Centennial Centre was flanked that week by Stompin' Tom Connors (it's a Canadian thing you wouldn't understand) and Rush (fresh off their first US tour as an opening act for bigger names, though they were well known in Canada already). Williams was absolutely stunned by his reception -- something between Elvis and Beatlemania. Like ... SCREAMING TEENAGE GIRLS and the whole deal. It was wacky.

I used to play Eddie back in college.
I also saw a local stage production of Rocky about ten years ago and was encouraged to participate by the folks putting it on. I was rather surprised at how much I remembered as I hadn’t been to Rocky in ages. The other audience members were a little surprised too, heh. (Sidenote: don’t bring your damn kids to a show like Rocky Horror if you’re expecting G rated, fun for the whole family. Sheesh.)

The worst I ever saw
was somebody taking their three-year-old (at least that's what it sounded like) to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow--in which a little boy gets stalked, killed and decapitated by the horseman. No, not all of that is on screen, but enough that the kid in the theater wailed in fear.

@snoopydawg I attended exactly ONE
The rest of the evening got so crazy, I sometimes wonder if it actually happened. Back when I was in the habit of drinking strong spirits, I briefly dated a woman who thought it was amusing to slip LSD into my vodka, and I "remember" a few things from those weeks which I'm certain never actually happened...
The "aftermath" of my RHPS attendance kinda feels the same way when I remember it, but I didn't imagine it- I woke up the next afternoon HOPING that it had been a dream, but all my neighbors spent a few days talking about it, so I know it wasn't.
It was a wonderful thing to be young- I miss it sometimes.

Those tweets are great. The animosity towards Susan still is just mind blowing. Between Debra and Neena Neena going on and on about her and everyone else blaming people who voted for Stein, but not Johnston who got twice or more votes than Stein did it seems people just want to blame everyone and everything else but HER for not even bothering to campaign in the states she lost or calling voters deplorables. Seriously Hillary? You think calling people who don't want what you were selling was a good idea to get them to vote for you.
But it's not just Debra and Neena Neena who can't let go of blaming Sarandon. Why in a pro Warren diary would the person need to post this off topic tweet and then the echo chamber weighs in?
Umm no
Hmm some of the tweets didn't post right so if you want read the twitler thread.
Yup
I don't either.
I think it's bigger than finding a scapegoat to blame.
.
I think the Delusional Dems can't get over the shock that their glorious CIA was too weak to carry Hillary on their backs over the finish line .
And the FBI were no more than the pooper scoopers you find at the end of any parade involving livestock.
But the CIA — they should have had this! Jesus wept. The Dems via Susan Rice got a free ride with thousands of pointedly ignored searches using the NSA database. And the DOJ couldn't be any more compromised and anxious to please their deep state colleagues. The Supreme Court all but gift-wrapped Citizens United for the corporations, driving a stake through the heart of the nation's democratic processes. And the unsupervised FISA Courts and much of the State Department dare not show their faces at all in DC — nor at the UN.
Together, they comprise the rogue's gallery of unelected authorities — most of whom flooded in and embedded themselves during the Nixon and Reagan administrations. They have built massive, impenetrable walls of classified documents that they hide behind — and they refuse to leave. They know where all the bodies are buried and they know the deepest and most frightening personal secrets of every politician elected to Federal office.
For the past fifty years, this unelected cabal of "appointees" have swapped among themselves the most powerful strategic positions of authority in the nation.
"Who wants to run the DOD next?"
"Not me. It's my turn at the DNI."
"You bastard! You promised to head the CIA for my first cycle with the Joint Chiefs."
"Don't look at me. My sabbatical to the Think Tanks has already been announced. A better class of people, doncha know."
"Shut up, Ronnie."
"I'm the one who got saddled with the Special Prosecutor shitshow, while you guys shredded the evidence and announced your retirements."
"That prick Comey got hooked up with Goldman Sachs."
"He'll be back."
The Intelligence Community failed completely to hoist a corrupt old woman into the Presidency. It's not like they haven't done it before. But they've become risk-adverse and incompetent, as well as corrupt. It was the I.C. — and only the I.C. — who invented that preposterous story about Russians meddling in the elections — using obsolete kiddy code and silly social media ads that no one ever saw. It's the Intelligence Community that is forever doubling down on their own dangerous lie — breathing life into it again and again. That's not how serious national intelligence professionals operate!
This is what happens when you allow the power-hungry Neoliberals to privatize key operations of a Central Government — and then gift those generous single-payer operations over to profit-mad, tax-dodging corporations, who add nothing of value. Instead, the corporate leaders lavish massive stock options upon themselves, while they drive the underlying government operation into a ditch of broken American lives. Katrina and the Great Recession come to mind along with the private prisons and every modern war that the US has engaged in.
Heck of a job, Brownie.

Sarandon has always been a lefty
So did Debra Messing just start paying attention to politics the day before yesterday or is she one of those contracted by her agency to be a disingenuous asshole on Twitter? Could be both, I guess. Either way, she's going to need better writers because this just makes her look stupid. Not only is she wrong about the cages, but as everyone here knows, the Obama administration did tons of horrible shit that people like Messing completely ignored then and continue to ignore now. Plus which Sarandon has always been very open about her politics, and anyone who's ever heard Sarandon talk for two minutes about any political issue knew without even having to ask that she wouldn't support Clinton's corporate/warmonger policy.
I've always had a crush on Susan Sarandon, too, not because she's more gorgeous and sexy than most of the rest of Hollywood, which she totally is, but because she's smart and compassionate and brave, all of which drive my attraction machine a lot more than looks. Integrity for the swoon.
One of my favorite memories from high school was the first time some friends took a bunch of us down to Coconut Grove (a little party community on Biscayne Bay in South Florida) to see the "late night, double feature, picture show" with the audience participation. So weird, so fun.

While we are adding Debra Messing to the list of stupid people with gigantic megaphones, let us not forget Sarah "You're being ridiculous" Silverman.
I will never forgive her for her role in that shit show of a convention. Her obliviousness about what was actually going on was matched only by her ridiculous finger wagging at the rest of us who were fighting for the very integrity of democracy during that awful primary.

I put Al 'the smarming one" Franken in the same category
I was glad Al Franken got booted out of Congress, no matter the reason valid or not because there were enough other reasons to not want him to remain in office.
No one need to look any further than Al Franken's shameful, and deceitful impersonation of Sen. Bernie Sanders who gave the eight hour speech (became a book called 'The Speech') on the floor in opposition to Obama not allowing GWB's huge tax cut to the very wealthy to 'sunset' but to be set into law permanently.
What about Al? That shill took his turn and used every 'populist/progressive' meme, talking like he was another Bernie Sanders or Studs Terkel talking about the 'working class' and how the good people have been shafted by the system.
He went on for hours like poor a characterization of Eugene Debs and then he voted for the tax cut.
Bingo
In so many articles I read about the things that are happening during Trump I see people writing about how bad Bush was and then skipping Obama's whole tenure of doing the same things and going to how Trump is bad for doing what he is doing again without mentioning that Obama did many of them then Trump is doing now. I don't think Trump's kill list has as many dead people on them as Obama's does. Trump hasn't deported as many as Obama did, but that might mean cuz he has locked them up instead.
And yeah again ditto on Susan's bright intellect. She seems to have stayed true to her views unlike so many that will over look what people do because he is charming and has a nice family......... and then totally overlooking Hillary's history. All of it.

All I can think of is how Sarandon still refuses to acknowledge the role she played in getting Trump elected. Her advocacy for Clinton would have made up for every failure committed by her campaign team, as they downplayed polling data that showed she was losing ground to a failing business tycoon.
So, blame for the incompetence of the Clinton campaign is assigned to an actress, not to the (presumably) professional staff hired by Killary herself. I guess in Clinton circles, you never have to say you were wrong.
Then there is us Bernie bros and gals scared people into think that St. Hill might start a war. Never mind she had already started two while at State.

The earth is a multibillion-year-old sphere.
The Nazis killed millions of Jews.

AGCC is happening.

I wonder what Tanden thought she was promised.
All us Bernie/Stein voters, we spoiled her chance to get in the history books, not to mention a gazillion bucks book deal.
I didn't know we were that important. Maybe we should do it again in 2020. Would you rather be a heroic individualist for the Greens or a robot for Uncle Joe?

I especially liked EPA a TBA African-American, which is politico speak for Monsanto hasn't gotten back to us yet about whom they want.
Now we know what the Hillbots were doing while they weren't campaigning or counting electoral votes.

There aren’t any matters that are currently more pressing than grappling with the fact that I listened to what actress Susan Sarandon had to say during the 2016 presidential election and did not vote for Hillary Clinton.
And this is why nobody should ever listen to a Hillary supporter.

I took Kevin's article as snark
He too is fed up with people blaming Sarandon and the kitchen sink on Hillary's failure to win probably the easiest election in history to a game show host and a failed businessman who had to declare bankruptcy 3 times on his casinos.

Scary Putin no longer cuts it, so Squealer needs to find a new boogey(wo)man.
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Hillary is off script
Oh dear, Hillary. You need to catch up because the country has moved on from blaming Vlad for your loss. Now it's Susan Sarandon's fault that you lost. Pssst..tell your buddy Kambama to start courting Susan and getting her to support her. This is a sure way for her to win
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't vote women" right? Guess it depends. The women have to be approved by the status quo donors and not some one who wants to do things differently. The kids will HR anyone who says something unkind towards Liz, Kambama, Kirsten and Marianne, but it's okay to say anything derogatory about Tulsi and get recs out the ying yang. It's the hypocrisy....
I just read where
they are cancelling the new Will and Grace. I tried watching it, but it wasn't as good the second time around.
The story says that Debra and Megan Mullally are not getting along. Seems she doesn't get along with many smart women.
You're so right, Snoopydawg, Debra is an ignorant slut. Should we come visit you in jail?

Nah just send cake
I'm out now, but if I call Hillary a warmonger again I'm might be banned. Kidding. I'm sure it was calling her a whore for the banks. I don't know if I got turned in or it was a Twitter bot that caught it. It happened quick.
