What happened to the Bernie Bros Slur?

Remember how Bernie supporters were all racist and sexist because they were all privileged white men? I wonder why you don't hear that slur much anymore?
bros.jpg

The Bernie Bros slur was never true, but now it's even more of a lie than ever.

Bernie Sanders faced ferocious criticism in the media throughout the 2016 primaries — and central to that critique was what the Washington Post called Bernie Sanders’s big black-voter problem. Black voters, we were told, decisively rejected Sanders’s politics — and, by extension, left flank challenges to the Democratic establishment. And the proof was in the polls: overwhelming majorities of black voters preferred Hillary Clinton.

It’s impossible to overstate how much coverage this narrative received in just about every major outlet you can name: the New York Times, the Washington Post (again), Vox, Slate, Time, MSNBC, In These Times, the Atlantic, and so on.
...
By January of this year, it had already become clear that enthusiasm for another Sanders run was remarkably inflected by race — with comparatively strong support coming from black voters. And Friday, a poll from Pew confirms the trend: only 49% of Sanders supporters are white, compared with 56% of Biden voters, 59% of Harris voters, and a remarkable 71% of Warren voters.

Gee, I wonder when the media will start asking Warren and Biden about their Black Voter Problem?

Also note how Bernie is the only candidate who's majority of support is women.

Gee, I wonder when the media will start asking Warren and Biden about their Women Voter Problem?

Nope. The media is still telling us that Warren's support is "more diverse".

even presidential candidates

In the above video, quoting an article by Robbie Jaeger, Niko House and Sofia Zalvidar explain how prominent talent agency executive Michal Kives, former agent and executive of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), is connected to the Clinton Machine and has been a leader in the effort to groom Democratic presidential candidates to run against Bernie Sanders in the 2020 presidential election cycle. Apparently, talent agencies are a thing when it comes to the current political scene. United Talent Agency is a similar company, also with connections to Kives and the Clinton Machine.
...
In attendance were Bill and Hillary Clinton (worth $190 million & $46 million), Elon Musk (worth $22 billion), Google CEO Eric Schmidt (estimated wealth $11.1 billion), Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan (net worth $750 million), and FaceBook COO Sheryl Sandberg (net worth $1.6 billion). Cory Booker also attended. Kamala Harris was invited but had to cancel — Kives personally gave $5,000 to her campaign.

CAA donated almost $479,000 to candidates and PACs in 2018, including to Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Beto O’Rourke; all who received donations of $11,000 or higher. CAA represents all of Joe Biden’s interests as well.

Who else is on the client list of CAA? Glad you asked — Anderson Cooper, Alyssa Milano, Anna Navarro, Bette Midler, Bill Maher, Twitter cofounder Christopher Isaac “Biz” Stone, Bob Schieffer, Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein, Martha Raddatz, Katy Tur, Jim Sciutto, Jemele Hill, David Farenthold, Stephanie Ruhle, Elizabeth Vargas, Gayle King, Ian Bremmer, Frank Luntz, Colin Jost, David Kushner, Chris Cuomo, Connie Chung, Lenard McKelvey — known professionally as Charlamagne Tha God (who recently has been smearing Tulsi Gabbard), Howard “Dan” Pfeiffer, former Senior Advisor to President Obama, Donna Brazile, Jimmy Fallon, Joe Biden (previously mentioned), Valerie Jarrett, Mark Cuban, Rob Reiner, Seth MacFarlane, Stephen Colbert, Susan Rice, Van Jones, James Corden, and Whoopi Goldberg.

The Theorem goes a bit like this.

Bernie's support includes white people.
All white people are racist.
Those who Support Racists are Racist.
Therefore doesn't matter how many of his supporters are not racist, Bernie's group includes racists.
Since he does not constantly berate and shame his racist followers, clearly Bernie supports them.
Therefore Bernie Supports Racists.
Therefore Bernie Is by the commutative property, Racist.

/snark

Doesn't matter what the facts are. White people are not allowed to judge the experience of people of color, and if we do we just prove we are racist. Since People of Color have determined Bernie is Racist, He is. Disputing that experience makes you a racist.

/snark. Dammit, this time for sure.

Seriously, he can't win, and trying to play defense just means they'll adjust the smear and continue to apply pressure. It's no longer necessary to call people by a specific group title because "RACIST!" covers it all according to the media and their controlled mouthpieces. Any time you disagree, time to bring up the "Your area and your people are racist" thing. Because that's clearly what the discussion is ALL about.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.

deplorable Hillary, who attacked her opponent's supporters. In 2008, it was Obama Boys, which was a racist dog whistle, as well as an implication that most to all women supported Hillary, not Obama. Hillary lost to Obama.

In the 2016 primary, of course, we had "Bernie Bros." (IMO, using "bros," not the equally alliterative "boys," as her campaign had in 2008, supports the strong suspicion that "boys" was a racist dog whistle.) Thanks to a Democratic primary process that even Harry Reid said was unfair, and a heavily Hillary media, Hillary did win that primary. However, anyone who keeps up with politics knows Bernie got screwed. So, I am going to claim that his was the moral victory.

Notoriously, in the 2016 general election campaign, Hillary called Trump's supporters everything but a child of God, including "deplorables."

Again, I cannot think of a politician other than Hillary who was so counter-productive and self-defeating as to attack her opponent's supporters. Perhaps we don't hear about Bernie Bros today because she is not running.

Another theory is that politicians keep track of what has worked in the past and what has been the kiss of death. Hillary's two Presidential campaigns were kissed by death. So, why use her "strategy" for pissing off voters? (It's especially stupid to piss off primary voters, but that didn't seem to dawn on anyone, either in 2008 or 2016.)

@HenryAWallace @HenryAWallace I studied logic in college and the number of fallacies in your clearly snarky theorem is remarkable.

This year, Sanders support is more diverse than anyone else in the Kabuki Klown Kavalcade. In 2016, the MSM portrayed Hawai'i as a primarily white state, when the opposite is plainly true--it is the most racially diverse in the nation.

Death of a theme by a thousand repetitions. The very term racist has become so distorted as to lose any semblance of credibility in the current political climate. Trump is gaining as much as 28% approval from potential black voters--bad news for the Dems who count on the usual 90% black support for their candidates.

Could not resist, sorry...

Living in Portland, you hear the argument a hundred times a day if you go outside. Managed to smile and nod my way through a few conversations yesterday and didn't offend, so... you know, good job there.

refer. The only reference I made to race was that Obama Boys was a racist dog whistle ("boy" being a venerable put down of an adult black male). No logic involved.

Did you mean to reply to detroitmechworks snark?

@HenryAWallace I have seen many an election and worked many an election, but I was surprised to the extent that Hillary and crew went after and made an issue of Bernie supporters. Never saw anything like it before. From the sentiments I read during the time, Hillary and her supporters thought they did not need Bernie supporters to win the election.

@MrWebster

Hillary and her supporters thought they did not need Bernie supporters to win the election.

That's certainly part of it.
But what it really comes down to is a class-based contempt for anyone in the working-class left.
Every four years they owe us platitudes. They don't feel obliged to do anything else.
in fact, we should be grateful for platitudes.

@MrWebster

Did they have an alleged justification for alienating Obama's supporters with a dog whistle primary?

@MrWebster

Her supporters keep saying that Bernie cost her the election because of the things he said about her and that he didn't drop out when he knew that he couldn't win. Maybe. But that was nothing compared to how dirty Hillary turned when it was apparent that she couldn't win. Her campaign turned down right nasty and then she said that she was staying in in case Obama was assassinated like Bobby Kennedy was just after he got the nomination. Did anything Bernie say come close to that? Nope.

And the people who are calling his supporters Bernie bros and saying that they are the worst people ever just might want to remember that any other candidate that does win the nomination will need Bernie's supporters to vote for them if they want to beat Trump. Go ahead and keep pissing them off and watch them stay home again or vote 3rd party. Dumb people..

But do you have a less blurry version of the graph? I looked in the article but it wasn’t there either. I get fair use etc., but maybe a link to the source?

or something like it, will be back. It looks to me like the PTB in the Party can see that they're not going anywhere with Biden, Booker or Harris and are mounting a rear-guard action with Warren. Anybody but Bernie. I'm starting to wonder if she has some private positions that the corporate wing finds reassuring.

It's kind of a misleading title because Bernie doesn't play ball.
That's why they hate him.
Anyway it's live right now. Maybe Bernie will take a swing or two.

Guess I’m a Bernie Bro, because I’m thinking of getting an updated bumper sticker, with “Bernie Or Boycott”.

Do you think supporters of the establishment Democrats will recognize that, with determination like mine, a vote for Anyone-but-Sanders becomes a vote for Trump?

I think it's a bit too early to take demographic polls seriously as a expect the average person isn't paying all that much attention. That's probably the reason that Biden does so well, since he has high name recognition among those not yet tuned in.

At the moment I'm supporting both Bernie and Warren and will probably send a few bucks Gabbard's way after she let some air out of Harris's gas bag. Eventually, we'll have to chose between those on the progressive end of the spectrum, but right now I think it's important to get the do-nothing establishment types out of contention.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PTB's luke-warm support for Warren is a different strategy since I don't think that Warren is another Obama-in-progressive-clothing. Their goal is to split the progressive vote between Warren and Sanders so that a truly palatable candidate such as Biden or Harris, etc., can slide in. It's not unlike the Clinton tactic of talking up tRump so the HRC could have an easy general election. However, I think that this tactic will also backfire. With Sanders and Warren displaying mutual respect and fairly compatible planks, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them defers to the other so that the do-nothings can't game the system. Only time will tell.
