No more roses for Nancy

Nancy Pelosi Emerges As Unexpected Villain At Netroots Nation

The chatter at Netroots Nation, a non progressive gathering that attracts thousands of people each year, was expected to be on the rising influence of the left on the 2020 presidential election. But frustration with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, once considered an avatar of San Francisco liberalism, has emerged as a constant theme ― centered on her recent criticism of progressive members of her caucus.

She doesn’t act this way when Blue Dogs say stupid shit about other Democrats and about the party and constantly criticize the party,” said Markos Moulitsas, the founder of the popular non liberal blog Daily Kos, referring to a group of conservative House Democrats. “For some reason, she’s singling out these four for a special brand of conflict. It doesn’t make any sense.”

While the presidential election is still 16 months away, there were also warnings from progressives that excessive criticism of their ilk could discourage young people and people of color from voting.

I think Pelosi needs to be very careful about making it seem she’s denigrating the very people that deliver us the young and people of color votes that we have such a hard time turning out,” Moulitsas said.

Seriously?

Yeah, what he said

racist rapist twitlering in the White Power House today a unifying force:

“I reject his xenophobic comments meant to divide our nation. When Donald Trump tells four American Congresswomen to go back to their countries, he reaffirms his plan to ‘Make America Great Again’ has always been about making America white again,” Pelosi said in a tweet.

“I’ve been trying to figure out how to bring everybody together—I think the president just did that for us,” Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) said. “Nobody in our caucus is going to tolerate that kind of hatred. They’re not going to tolerate xenophobia, and they’re not going to tolerate racism. It’s just stark hatred. It’s absolute total hatred. He doesn’t know what he does to a community like the one that I live in when he does something like that.”

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) responded by recounting how, despite being born in the United States, he was repeatedly told to “go back to Mexico” from childhood through adulthood, regardless of his service in the Marine Corps or how well he did in school. “To people like Trump I will never be American enough,” Gallego said. “So if you wonder why I give no inch to these racists, now you know. Nothing will ever satisfy them. All we can do is stop them.”

So I'm thinkin' to myself, "Self," I'm thinkin', "What country is that, anyway, that Puerto Rico place? I mean ... what national government is ultimately responsible for what goes on there? so, 9 people have upvoted this comment, but not one person has bothered to enlighten me. it's almost like you're not taking me seriously ...

Forgive me. I was one of them. And I thought you were snarking.

Puerto Rico is an American "possession", styled a "commonwealth". Its inhabitants are considered US Citizens; but because Puerto Rico isn't a State, it doesn't have any Senators or Representatives; and because Presidential Electors are apportioned according to the total number of these, it has no vote in Presidential Elections. There is a Commonwealth government, seated at San Juan, but its powers are "few and weak".

All the above notwithstanding, the sovereign Power over Puerto Rico is that of the US Federal Government in Washington; and if a Puertorriqueño/a wants to participate in US Federal politics, the best way currently is for said Puertorriqueño/a to move to the US mainland, into a State, as Puerto Rico itself has almost no power over its colonial master. This is exactly what AOC's family did.

Again, my apologies for not speaking out sooner.

have a country to origin? (Mine is the US. That would be true of members of First Nations born here after 1789.)

According to the Human Genome Project, members of First Nations came from around what is now Siberia. They got to the Western Hemisphere many millennia sooner than the Pilgrims, though. Of course, anything was considered a nation when they first walked across the ice to northern North America, though.

same could be said of the racist rapist in the White Power House: a whiner, a legend in his own mind, who would have gotten nowhere in his country of origin, and all he can do is whine, gnash his teeth, and rend his garments about a system in which he is successful.

Also:

Some lawmakers pointed out Trump’s history of “birtherism” as well as the fact that the president’s wife, Melania, had immigrated to the United States. Melania Trump emigrated from Slovenia in 1996 for her modeling career.

“3 of 4 are American born and the other is a citizen,” Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) said of the four Democratic lawmakers in a tweet. “They are all ‘more’ American than 2 of Trumps wives (he seems partial to foreign women) and his grandparents.” Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, was born in what was then Czechoslovakia, and Trump’s grandparents and mother were born in Europe.

Probably you recall that the paternal grandfather of the racist rapist in the White Power House was an "unaccompanied minor" when he came to the US, where he proceeded to make his fortune as a whoremaster, and then he attempted to return to his "country of origin," but there they would not have him, because some people not even ur-Nazis can stomach.

live in a town that burned down. I remember you yesterday saying that borders and boundaries and such are part of “nature,” and that to disregard borders and boundaries is to “negate,” to “change,” nature. Apparently the fire—and though fire, in my understanding, is generally regarded as a natural phenomenon, part of nature—it was unaware of this wisdom, because it started in the forest, and then it rudely raced over the town borders and boundaries, and burned all the town. It then continued to wantonly burn through various other towns, without regard for boundaries and borders, though it is true that some of the towns were unincorporated, and so didn’t actually have any defined borders and boundaries, and so, probably, at least pursuant to the theories of you, these places deserved to burn, as, in their borderlessness and boundarylessness, they were negating nature.

I remember when I was standing there in the fire and there was no more water and unless somebody showed up with some there was going to be a hecate fry, and then these guys drove up in some fire engines from a place called Granite Bay—which I had never heard of, Granite Bay is not here, so why had they come here, in the middle of the fire, they were negating nature, they should have remained naturally bordered and boundaryed in their place of origin, and if only I had then been introduced to your border wisdom, I would have told them to leave, they had no business here, fighting any fire. But no. This outrageous border-violating negation of nature continued all through the day, and all of the night, as people from a dozen or so other places of origin arrived to around me fight the fire. And in the succeeding weeks the town was overwhelmed by thousands of men and women, outrageously negating nature, by coming here from all over the country, to fight the fire, and begin rebuilding the infrastructure. Some even got in planes in Hawaii and flew across the ocean and landed with nothing, and then rented vehicles and equipment to come up here, to risk their lives in a place they’d never known. They were all negating nature, and should have returned to their place of origin, and at once! What’s maybe worse, is that here they met people who had previously flown from this town to Hawaii, to there provide the same service. So this sort of thing has been going on a long time! Why? Why can’t people stay in their own good holes? Tucked away behind their borders and boundaries? As nature intends?

The negation of nature here continued ceaseless. For six weeks while I was up here with the town closed—that the town was closed, presumably you would have liked that, as that’s kind of bordery—workers who had changed nature by crossing multiple borders to come here to fight the fire and rebuild the town provided me with food and water, though many times I never knew their names, or they mine, and also, now that I think of it, some of the times these workers had pronounced melanin content, and so what I should have done, pursuant to the teachings of your shitlord, is told them to return to their countries of origin, because why were they here in the US, despoiling the whiteness? Though, and let me tell you, sometimes these people were here looking for bodies, or, more precisely, cremated remains, or, more precisely, fucking ashes, and when you burn in a fire, you burn till you’re fucking dead crisp black/grey, I don’t care how white you were when you started, whiteness means nothing, when you burn in a fire. And also, this was complete communism, another violation of the precepts of your shitlord, because no money changed hands, I saw no money the entire time I was up here, they just gave me the food and the water, and I was a communist too, and in addition practicing medicine, and sometimes hospice care, without a license, when I was running the deer infirmary, those first weeks, for the deer who arrived here, though they had no business being here, this was not where they were from, they should have gone back to their place of origin, but here they were, exhausted, burned, injured, and so some of the communist food and water the communist workers gave to me I communist gave to the nature-negating deer. And then all these other communists started coming up here, negating nature, by crossing borders into places not of their origin, for they had never been here, but they came up here, all day, every day, and all of the night, to try to save, rescue, the animals that were here, and burned, and left behind, and why did they do that, that negated nature.

Some 50,000 people were burned out of here, and also out of those towns that were not towns because they outrageously did not have borders map52_n.jpgand boundaries, and now most of those people have negated nature by moving to other places, wantonly crossing borders— borders as if they are open!—you can see them on that map there, and they should have stayed here, they should not have been open-borders people; that their town burned down, that’s just tough shit, they should stay where they belong, even though there’s nothing there for them, and they would die in the streets, but that’s the way it should be, that’s just nature’s way; just like the people in, say, Guatemala, or Somalia, it’s just tough shit, that their lives there are on fire, they have no business coming to the US, negating nature, to there despoil the whiteness, they should stay in their nations of origin, and there die in the streets, as nature intends.

The borderlessness and nature-negation here continues to this day. The other day at the bus stop I met this man from Minneapolis who has come up here to live in his friend’s trailer as the friend prepares to rebuild. The friend is disabled, and cannot do it alone, and so this Minneapolis man, though he had never been here, has come to help. Though he is a US citizen, this man, his people originally came to the US from Somalia, and so, consistent with the teachings of your shitlord, he needs to get back there; as, in the world according to your shitlord, no one of melanin will ever truly be a part of this country, only in whiteness uber alles, may one truly be an American, and so this man, and everyone else such as he, need to get their melanin asses back to wherever from once they came.

There have been many people in this house, since the fire. This little two-block by two-block island in the fire-stream didn’t much burn, and so there are far more people living here now, than before the fire. Pretty much everybody with a surviving structure has one or more trailers or RVs now also on the property. Because nothing’s been rebuilt yet. And people need a place to be. Unless you want them to die on the streets. As nature intends. I can glance over to the right and out the window there and see the trailer that is on this property, as I type. And I have a bed, and/or a couch, always, for anyone who burned, and/or for anyone helping to rebuild, in the burn. I don’t think you’re that sort of person, though. I think you just want to come here to be a shitlord. But if, with your shitlordding talents, you’re willing to pitch in on the town’s nascent sewer system, maybe we can work something out. Though you’ll need to check yourself. Because I believe you said you live in Colorado. And so, to get here, you’re going to need to cross some borders. And that negates nature.

tortilla chips and salsa. they were pretty good. kinda unnatural though. i mean, corn doesn't just mash itself up with some salt and oil and then bake itself to a crisp. And tomatoes don't find themselves suddenly crushing on chiles and cilantro. Not even down south of "the" border that they had to cross, memetically, in order to find their way into my grocery store, my car, my fridge, and my face.

way out to the east in canada there's a place called newfieland, which is where the newfies all live, excepting them as may have decided to cross some borders and live somewhere else. that doesn't unnewfify them though. once a newfie, always a newfie. it's a funny thing about newfieland, it was just about the very first part of canada that was bumped into by the european explorers, but it was the very last part of canada to agree to be part of canada. i think this still rankles some non-newfie canadians. like, "Hey, what's with you guys, eh? Wasn't Canada good enough to have newfies in it, eh?"

to get even with newfies for this slight, canadians like to tell all kinds of stories about how wacky the newfies are. and the truth is, they are different from other canadians. unnaturally so, if you want my opinion. like, they got their very own time zone all to themselves, did you know that? i mean, how much more unnatural is that? take something that is about as unnatural as anything could be -- midnight isn't midnight anymore, and noon isn't noon -- and make up your very own copy, except that your copy isn't this-o-clock or that-o-clock, your copy is this-thirty-o-clock. fuckin' eh, i'm not making this up.

anyway here's a story about newfieland. apparently there was a terrible plane crash there earlier this evening. it was the very worst plane crash that ever there were, out there in newfieland. a twin-engine cessna carrying four people crashed in a cemetery. by the time those newfie rescue crews finally gave up for the evening, they had recovered over a hundred bodies, and a spokesnewfie said the count was expected to rise tomorrow, when the search resumes.

because newfieland is right there on the mighty atlantic ocean, those newfie guys know them something about boats an' all, so they do get around, maybe more than is natural. anyway, that's what this songwriter seems to think. he wasn't a newfie, by the way. he was born in St. John, the capital of New Brunswick, which they named that just to show they were more frugal than those newfies, whose capital is St. John's. Canadians like to recycle. That's why there were two teams in the Canadian Football League called the "Roughriders".

It might have slipped your notice, but this essay is not about immigration, immigrants or anything related to it. It's about kos coming down on Nancy because of what she has said about AOC and the other women who voted against the bill that gave Trump $4.6 billion with no strings attached.

And that stawman crap about just going into someone's house without their permission is crap. This is not what most immigrants are doing. They can legally apply for asylum because of US and international laws, but Trump is keeping them in the detention centers longer than he should. This is why people say it's a manufactured crisis. The number of people who were coming here has been going down for years. It's costing us a hell of a lot money to do that, but people who changed the rules for immigrants have bought stock in the companies that own them. And Trump has been given money to build more places to keep them. Imagine if congress pulled $4.6 billion and spent it on our homeless crisis instead.

As far as I know no one here is saying that the borders should be open. They are saying treat immigrants with compassion and follow the law. BTW did you see my essay on what Bill Clinton did regarding immigration?

@snoopydawg

And everything rotten under the sun kind of person . My sarcasm was directed at how fortuitous for all that Trump stepped it in and changed the whole story from them to him. if anyone benefits most from having the spotlight on them moved, it is Pelosi.

My other and older point is that AOC was the first one to drag in race. Her first tweet in her self defense after Pelosi's attack was about what Pelosi did “to women of color”. By doing that, she opened the door for all racists to come after her, certainly Trump. More importantly, she failed to claim her political power and instead chose to make it about race. She undermined herself and gave Pelosi a pass on 1) how much she hates and works against progressives, and 2) gave Trump more money to jail babies without getting anything in return. AOC had Pelosi pegged, and AOC played the race card instead . Bad move.

Disclaimers:
1. I understand that we all are made who we are by our life’s experiences and some people have experiences that are really bad simply because of the color of their skin. Yes I know racism and bigotry do still exist. But people can disagree with POC, yes even vote for Trump, and not be motivated by race. There is a saying that goes: when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

2. Another example of racism being poorly illuminated is AOC always lamenting the suffering of “brown” babies whether she is talking about those specific kids in Trump’s concentration camps, who are brown, or transitions during her speech to the general suffering of kids, who could be any color. Minor and picky I know, but loud to sensitive ears.

3. Yes, racism is real, and it is perfectly understandable how POC can be angry and cynical as all hell. Some Native Americans, Muslims, the disabled, and poor people too.

AOC blew it. She was in a battle with the Queen, and she blinked. Not everything is a nail.

Until she quits playing coy aka Warren 2016 and endorses Bernie, I won’t trust her. I also don’t like her persona, her personality, which is totally extraneous.

@dkmich have the "language skills"???? Wow. It's like you've stepped onto a parallel Earth where things look the same but are just slightly off a bit from the Earth the rest of us inhabit.* To state the obvious: She's one of the most articulate spokesdems to come along in quite some time. No "uh-ing and ah-ing" as pols do, no speaking out of both sides of her mouth, no mealymouthedness and DimWimpery.

As for endorsing Bernie: have u checked the calendar lately? It's July 2019, 7 months or so before the first primary contest, barely a couple of weeks since the first debates. Endorsements this early are likely not to have any impact. Timing is important for big name endorsements. And maybe AOC hasn't decided between Bernie and Tulsi.

* here I fondly recall the outstanding episode "The Parallel" from the original Twilight Zone series, which folks probably can access via AmazonPrime.

Couldn't have access to the debate stage, the stored info, nor a spot on the ballot.

In the general election I voted for Green Party candidate Jill Stein (for the second time) and I would've loved for him to have left the Dim Party even tho all the political guns would be pointed at Bernie when the anointed one lost.
Then he would have no power in Congress to effect any real change with legislation after the election.

He wanted to run, the people wanted him running and the condition he had to accept was part of the price of getting on ballots across the Country.

Take me, for instance — I’m from Hawaii, I live in Germany, here I’m a PoC and an immigrant, I am all kinds of “intersectional.” But I try to stand up for all people, including my fellow U.S. passport holders who sought “hope and change” in Trump (a.k.a. Bad Orange Man) in 2016, or, where European politics are concerned, that 25% or so of my fellow residents of Saxony who everybody in the mainstream likes to accuse of being neo-Nazis.

There’s a case for enforcing laws re borders as long as they remain on the books, and not treating citizenship or lack of it as totally meaningless — but at the moment, you couldn’t be doing a better job at alienating readers here from it if you were, I don’t know, Antifa or something?

to recall a more overtly racist public comment from a president in modern times. Nixon was racist, but apart from occasionally speaking well, and condescendingly, of his black butler or trotting out black token Sammy Davis, Jr, I can't recall him doing a Donald in public. Ditto for LBJ, who tended to keep his racist commentary out of the public, apart from the occasional dog whistle when he campaigned down South.

Woodrow Wilson was racist, but I'm not familiar with a particular public comment on race that was unduly out of bounds for his time.

Andrew Johnson perhaps? He was a nasty piece of work on race relations. And a drunk. Donald would probably like him if he knew about him.

Any historians here?

When a newly minted Elizabeth Warren came into the Senate and was making waves going after the banksters, Pelosi made it known that Warren did not represent the democratic party. Pelosi did the same thing after the 2018 election with the new leftist representatives--they were outliers.

I sometime thinks when she attacks figures like Warren and the "squad" she is signalling to the major donors what she has things under control, and no left insurgency will survive.

In this current case, looks like her attempt to muzzle the aggressiveness of the squad backfired.

As to Markos, have no clue what bug crawled up this butt to rebuke Pelosi. He didn't get a lucrative contract? TOP did not sufficiently attack AOS, etc.? He was denied a seat of where the party makes its biggests decisions?

she is signalling to the major donors what she has things under control, and no left insurgency will survive.

I think you nailed it. Again, ol' Nance helped elect (at least) 31 Deep State conservadems in 2018. So, guess we need to remember--they had the numbers that took the House, not 'the Squad.'

Pelosi says almost every week, or, when reporters ask her (at her Speaker's Press Availability every Thursday) that MFA won't come to the floor for a vote. She supports bolstering the ACA Exchanges.

Also, it's public knowledge that Pelosi made a deal with at least one Rep who is proposing a Medicare 'Buy-In' or public option plan. (in exchange for him voting for her, for Speaker) His name is Brian Higgins.

Of course, Dems that support the various public option proposals, do so, in order to shore up the ACA Exchanges by siphoning off more of the older and sicker beneficiaries (which, in turn, should lower Exchange premiums).

(And, since everything Dems pass will be under 'pay-go' rules, seniors need to be prepared to see their Medicare premiums rise, if a public option bill is passed.)

Honestly, to believe that anything's going to change (soon) because of several savvy Freshman Reps is not feasible, IMO. (Not that you, personally, believe it will.) I listen to Pelosi almost every Thursday. Nothing 'major' is going to change. Period. At least, not while she's Speaker. Folks can take that to the Bank.

that tried to keep her from becoming speaker. Or the ones who derailed her bill on legislation for the camps. They went behind her back to work with McConnell to get the senate bill passed. But hey...the democrats need the blue dawgs because they help give democrats the majority. I really don't understand how this helps the democratic base when those dawgs vote with republicans against their interests, but then I don't understand a lot of things that the kids do these days.

It was okay for Manchin to vote for Kavanaugh because he made it so a republican didn't have to interrupt whatever he was doing and come back to do it. Collins got lots of flack for voting for Kavanaugh, but not Manchin. Hey..isn't that sexist?

Oh yeah, yee long time member of DK was called out not once, not twice, but 3 times today as being a long time sleeper agent of Vladamir Putin. But fortunately the kids finally saw through your ruse and ran you off the site. It only took them 13+ years to do so. So well done. You hid yourself well over there.

Here is the original comment in a diary wondering if Putin got Nancy and AOC to fight in the first place:

How many fake progressives would it take to appear as a real progressive ground swell?

who knows, but certainly there were bots and ratfucking trolls in the Obama-Clinton-Sanders contests hit stirring with fake concerns. and many are still involved and even here I am sure.

Russia basic theme: let’s you and him fight while I empty your house

Let’s you and him fight while I [burgle] your house!”

1- And yes we have some doozies right here. This one signed up in 2005, and oonly got banned a year ago, so this goes back much further than we might expect:

2- What you said. Though we do have some that go back well over a decade, for example:

www.dailykos.com/…

Joined in 2005, finally banned for pro-Putin remarks almost exactly a year ago.

Agreed, we have a serious problem of people getting roped in by Russian memes without knowing it.

They are the classic “useful idiots” who go along uncritically, not knowing what it is they’re actually supporting.

We need to call that stuff out wherever we see it.

3- I’m 100% certain about very few things, but one of them is that Putin and his Pets are in the trenches right now, trolling the hell out of America, including trolling the hell out of us right here.

Here’s one who was around since 2005 and I spotted a few years ago, who finally got banned last year:

www.dailykos.com/

That one was even relatively subtle about it right up to before his blazing end. He also had the nerve to name himself after an English dictionary, and in fact the Russian “tells” in his language were subtle rather than obvious.

But this shit does go on, and it does continue to this day.

Remember it's not good to swim against the riptide there:

I’ll start worrying about Russian trolls when we clear the Internet of Saudi and Israeli trolls, CIA and FBI trolls, Koch and Adelson trolls, Exxon trolls, Scientology trolls.

In other words, this is one of the sillier diaries I’ve seen on DK, and that’s really saying something these days.

Do you think it’s possible that real Americans might be real upset about real problems that neither political party is doing much to solve? Or is this a case of “America is already great!,” and anyone who disagrees must be a Russian troll?

Russian trolls helped give us President Trump. Read the Mueller report. Russia is engaged in a war on the U.S., on multiple fronts. They are exerting tremendous influence on social media and the Internet, and one of their main strategies is to divide the Democratic party. All the more reason why we need to focus on GOTV.
---------

Guess this guy hasn't heard that the judge totally debunked that part of the Mueller report. I can see why thought because so far no one has written about it. But even if they had I wonder if any one of them that so believe that HER only lost because of Russian interference? Nah...
