New York is critical (Democratic primary race)
If you are still watching the primary election races than you realize both Trump and Clinton are in the lead with both states and delegates.
I do not care about the Republican race because I think Trump will be the winner. However, I would love to see a brokered convention, being a history and political junkie it would be historic and not sure if I will ever see another one in my lifetime.
As for the Democratic race, (please note I am a Bernie supporter), Bernie has a very narrow path to victory. The entire DNC and establishment (media, corporate America, and all the wealthy) are against him. He has truly defied the odds and is like the energizer bunny. This weekend and Wisconsin plus Wyoming are shaping up to be very favorably for him. I truly believe he may reduce Clinton overall delegate lead to between 250 between 200- it will be interesting to watch her supporter start to panic. Therefore, that is why this diary is to alert every one regarding the critical nature of this upcoming major milestone race- New York.
New York is the key race, it is April 19, a closed primary and quite a few delegates (247) are at stake. For Bernie to be a viable candidate and potentially win the nomination he must do well (tie or even barely win it). If he loses this race by greater than 7 to 10 percentage points then it will be a final nail in his coffin. He must stay close because he can keep the race close he can win it in California because he is closing the gap and shaping up to be a good race. The latest poll by PPIC shows that Clinton is only up by 7 points in that state.
Therefore, if you know anyone that is New York resident and interested in voting in the democratic primary then he or she must be registered by tomorrow, Friday March 25.
By the way, Pennsylvania is a big state (189 delegates) as well, and a closed primary. People will need to be registered by Monday, March 28. Please tell them as well.
So please if you know anyone in these upcoming states that want to vote, please tell them to ensure they are registered and go vote. I would love for them to vote for Bernie, but you know what just please vote. To me the more the merrier- we must use our rights or we will lose them.

These closed primary states
are very hard to endure when our candidate is wildly popular with independents who can't vote in them. There seems to be a lot of "Hillary Compliance" among registered Dems. I certainly hope that changes and they people heed your call in NY and go register right away!
I know- disenfranchisement of voters
To me this registering requirement and closed primary is a type of voter disenfranchisement. Why discourage voters to vote for your party's candidates? Because it keeps the power with the few (party regulars and leaders). It is a racket and shame that we have allowed this type of party system to be built by these power brokers. We must remove and overcome these barriers!
Closed Primaries Info
Don't worry so much about the closed primary meme.
Pennsylvania's self-identified Independents stick with a D or R label because there is no advantage to registering Independent; it only precludes one's self from voting in primaries without any tangible gain to offset that. Consequently, we have one of the lowest %'s of registered Independents in the nation (8%, which is 35% less than the 43% avg) and a lot of that includes voters who wouldn't necessarily be partial to Sanders anyway. The self-identified Independent in Pennsylvania is usually still a registered Democrat (or Republican) and hence not be excluded by the primary.
New York's Independent/Unaffiliated numbers are higher than Pennsylvania's (in the low 20%'s) but still lower than the national average.
New Jersey's Unaffiliated voters can affiliate with a party on the day of the primary at the polls and vote however they want.
These pro-Clinton "closed primary advantage" arguments are premised on the cynical notion that a lot of Sanders supporters will be excluded from the voting. The numbers and the "math" if you will... well, they do not support the false narrative Clinton supporters are advancing. What else is new.
Great points
Thank you for this education and I appreciate it. We need to share this knowledge to remove the barriers for the voters.
You're welcome
I saw so much of that talk being spread around like wildfire that I decided to investigate it myself. Turns out, it was BS. Lying is a full time job. It's very hard to sustain all of the different frauds the Clinton camp puts out there because truth has a way of correcting them in time.

There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties.. This...is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.--John Adams
Thank you
Thanks for this. I just
Thanks for this. I just contacted a repub who wants to vote for Bernie in NY.
Go Bernie !!
You are welcome
We need to stay involved, thank you for making an effort to help that is what is important.
I will phone bank NYorkers this evening
and just emailed my son who lives and works in NY to make sure all his friends and colleagues are registered to vote.
Thanks for the reminder
Don't believe everything you think.
Glad to help
Thank you for this note, and your efforts. We all need to do our part to make a positive difference.
When you phonebank the NY people --
Please make sure they check their registrations -- remember that election-day shenanigans are the norm for Clinton supporters.

“When there's no fight over programme, the election becomes a casting exercise. Trump's win is the unstoppable consequence of this situation.” - Jean-Luc Melanchon
While NJ primary is not until June
Voter registration to be eligible is from 5/13 - 5/17, depending on county

HOWEVER, if you are already registered but want to change your party affiliation, please check. I sent for a mail in registration form for a Republican friend of mine in January, and on the form it said that the deadline for new registrations was May 15th, but that for a registration change - such as party or address - the form had to be back by April.
Now, this was a mail-in form. But still if you know someone who is Republican or independent and who wants to change to vote in the Dem primary, advise them to check on the appropriate deadline date for their situation.
Great point
We need to stay on top of these barriers so we are not denied our rights.
HEADS UP. Even if you are registered or think you are
please check. B/c the voter rolls in NY and PA are being tampered with. You cannot make this shit up. Seriously. It's outrageous
Don't believe everything you think.
I got the shaft in NY, I registered on 9/16/2015 as a Dem
Here is how they fucked me
Sorry
This is a primary example why we need to remove these rules and laws to stop people from voting. We need to remove these barriers to have a true democracy.
It's ok it backfired on them, instead of Hillary getting 1 vote
from my wife and Bernie getting one form me, Bernie will get one vote from my wife. So we gained a vote.
Also I get to continue to boast that I have never been a registered Republican or Democrat. Fuck the 1 party system masquerading as a 2 party system.
I just made sure 2 votes that I have won for Bernie in New Jersey checked their registration to make sure they were Dems and they are all set.
Bring it home Bernie!!
It definitely pays to check.
My brother, who is actually fairly politically "in the know", lives in the Seattle area. But he's a busy guy (heh ... aren't we all?). Something told me that it might be wise to check on him since the Washington Democratic Caucus is this Saturday.
Damn good thing I did! I asked if he was attending the caucus. Well, didn't look like it because he had a late afternoon engagement that day that he could not miss. That gave me pause. "Rob," I said. "The caucus is at 10 AM. You'll be in and out in one to two hours. You'll have plenty of time to keep your other obligation!"
Come to find out, he had never attended a caucus before. He had no idea what happens at a caucus. For some reason, he thought they were all day affairs, like conventions. Boy, was he happy when he called the Sanders local campaign office and confirmed that it was indeed one to two hours ... althought the campaign specifically said that it might go a bit beyond that because they were expecting a record turnout! Upshot: he is going ... and voting for Bernie.
BTW, Washington also has a primary which will be held in May. Apparently the caucus this weekend is run by the Democratic party. The State runs the primary. But the primary appears to be strictly "advisory". The parties aren't obligated to follow its results. It's the caucuses that really count. First time I'd ever heard of a system like this one. My bro had always voted in the primary, and ignored the caucuses. So it definitely does pay to check on your friends and relations in other states!
"Long term: first the rich get mean, then the poor get mean, and the rest is history." My brother Rob.
Thank you for calling your brother
I am going to Washington Caucus on Saturday as well. We all need to be involved, and we the people need to break down these barriers.
By the way, tell your brother about the Bernie rally at Safeco field on Friday, March 25. (downtown Seattle, stadium has a capacity of 54,000). The doors open at 4 pm.
To what extent are the specific rules for closed primaries
a matter of state law versus party policy? Is it generally a mixture? Does it vary from state to state?
