GOP's creepy obsession with AOC

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a stalker, and that stalker goes by the name of Fox News.

A study found that the New York City Democrat was mentioned 3,181 times on Fox News Channel and its sister Fox Business Network during the six-week period of Feb. 25 to April 7, or just under 76 times a day. Not a day went by when she wasn't spoken about on Fox.

The liberal watchdog Media Matters for America, which did the research, called it an obsession and said the first term representative has become the network's latest bogeyman, "someone for hosts and guests to demonize, knock down and refer to whenever grievances need to be aired against the Democratic Party."

That's more than three times an hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Nothing weird about that! That's perfectly normal behavior, amirite?

An Ohio chapter of the College Republicans called her a "domestic terrorist" in a fundraising email for advocating for Medicare For All and the Green New Deal.
Which is totally acceptable and logical.

It seems perfectly normal for a cable news network, who's audience is made up primarily of angry old men, to rage endlessly and obsessively about an attractive, successful young woman that holds strong opinions.
Nothing to see here. No need to psychoanalyze the situation.

Various Fox hosts, including Stuart Varney, Greg Gutfeld, and David Asman, have alluded to Fox's laser focus on Ocasio-Cortez. Varney, for example, once acknowledged, "We have an AOC segment every single day, almost every single hour."

Here is a (noncomprehensive) glimpse into what just six weeks of Fox News and Fox Business’ Ocasio-Cortez coverage looks like:

Week 1: Fox freaked out over Ocasio-Cortez wanting to ban children; pushed a partisan, since-debunked claim about the cost of the Green New Deal, and helped make her one of the stars of CPAC.

Week 2: Fox accused Ocasio-Cortez of being a hypocrite for using cars, relentlessly covered alleged ethics violations filed by conservative activist groups against her staff, and used her support of Rep. Ilhan Omar to accuse Democrats of having an anti-Semitism problem.

Week 3: Fox melted down when Ocasio-Cortez said Ronald Reagan used racism to stoke divisions, attempted to pit her against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to claim major divisions in the Democratic Party, and attacked her education and intelligence.

Week 4: Fox hyped a Gallup poll about Ocasio-Cortez's national approval ratings, covered more alleged ethics violations, and attacked Time magazine for a cover featuring her.

Week 5: Fox continued to push the bogus Green New Deal cost claim and criticized her questioning during House committee hearings.

Week 6: Fox attacked Ocasio-Cortez's (accurate) tweets about the 22nd Amendment and croissants, obsessed over another Instagram Live video while mocking her unfurnished apartment, and accused her of adopting a fake accent.

Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.

so they'll push their nonsense, like CNN and MSNBC did with Trump. I think it has less to do with anything they believe than with knowing it will frighten people into watching more, or rile them up to watch more, thus giving them higher ad revenues.

As always, it's the money.

Hello - doesn’t anyone see the danger this young woman is in? It’s not funny. It should not be brushed aside. Or is it condoned? Is she hated that much? I’m afraid for her.

We must fight back. We must stand up for her. They will come for us. This is undeserved and DANGEROUS.

There's no such thing as bad publicity. If AOC gets the same free coverage as Trump did in 2016, it can only work to her benefit.
