George W. Bush to speak Monday at Vanderbilt University

This is what we’ve become. We’ve really tossed out any standards and ethics when it comes to who should be considered as ‘desirable’ or ‘worthy’ to address any audience. The guys a war criminal, a draft dodger, a willing flunkey for the worst of the worst, people who lied about a sovereign nation and Shock and Awed hundreds of thousands to their graves based on lies. We’ve practically sent them back to the Stone Age. And the icing on the cake? Our criminal incompetence gave the entire Middle East that pox on humanity’s ass, ISIS.

This just CAN’T be right. Do people think there’s any truth to begotten from this weasel? From George W. Bush???? This guy is hiding behind some of the ugliest events in our country’s history, from rape and torture of women and children to caging all males in Fallujah and dropping White Phosphorus on them from the sky. But here is Vanderbilt U giving him an audience of college students in a private speech.

George W. Bush to speak Monday at Vanderbilt University

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Former President George W. Bush is slated to speak at Vanderbilt University as part of a lecture series.

The university says the 43rd president will be joined on stage Monday evening by Vanderbilt Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos and presidential historian Jon Meacham.

A limited number of free tickets for the event were given out only to Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff based on a random drawing. A university spokesman said the event is closed to the press.

Ignoring security briefings? Children's books? Torture? Vice presidential puppetry? Trashing the economy? They always say speak about what you know best.

Would be my guess.

Also too, 'presidential historian' = hagiographer.

(Edited) Last thought directed towards the original story, not to Snode's comment.

The Obamas have granted absolution, so for people who still look up to the Obamas, I guess that makes everything Bush 43 did okay.

substitute 'chicken hawk' in place of 'draft dodger' and then I agree with everything but every time 'draft dodger' is used as an attack on someone's character I feel a correction is needed.
Just like Mr. Five Deferments Cheney, GW Bush is a 'chicken hawk',or someone that promote wars but won't fight in them but when it comes to 'draft dodgers' I'm proud to have been one and wish hundreds of thousands of others had done the same thing which would've been a gift of life to a lot of the people in SE Asia.

I lived in Nelson,a small town in British Columbia Canada and the nearby Slocan Valley was nicknamed 'little America valley' because of so many people that were dodging the draft moved there and there were groups trying to help others get into Canada.
I gotta add that getting across the line into Canada was pretty damn easy in rural areas, in fact me my girlfriend and her three year old boy simply walked thru the woods into Canada hiked to the highway and hitched into Vancouver. There I met many other 'Americans' there for the same reason before moving to Nelson and meeting all those 'draft dodgers', very good people with a conscience that were not going to support the warmongering.
In other words people felt no one should participate in the killing and some sent money to people in prison for evading the draft.

Enough of that rant, but I will add this...in Slocan Valley they built homes with the collective help from others in the Valley, just like in building the 'community center' but for many it was considered a temporary situation. There was a general feeling that the war would end one day and the talk about returning without the threat of prison would eventually happen.
Which Jimmy Carter did (to some degree) but many had other charges still in effect in the States (usually drug related) to which they'd refused to 'plea bargain' away by joining the army,so until the statute of limitations expired on them they couldn't return.
But now many years later the majority of them are still there, having become citizens of Canada, and their children have grown up and had children so in the end, war or no war, the chose to remain in Canada.
A lesser know fact about that time period... there were so many Americans living, illegally, in Canada that one day I heard on the radio an announcement from the govt. about a program called "make our Country your Country"(or something close to that). Just make yourself known to the govt. and unless one was fleeing prosecution for certain crimes it was apparently a rubber stamp approval.A lot of people jumped at the chance and I didn't go in only because I didn't think any Country would be that considerate, I thought it might be a trap, but one thing was evident to anyone paying attention Canada respected 'draft dodgers'.

Thanks for sharing it. I have lots of of respect for you.

Have you seen the film “Sir! No, Sir!” about the anti-war movement within the ranks?

There used to be an official website under the film name that had scores of amazing material archived, including extensive interviews with veterans who organized massive dissension (and sometimes “fratricide”), refuses to fight and formed solidarity groups at home to protest the war.

Looks like it can now be found here.

"If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:

THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED

- Kurt Vonnegut

Long ago, one of my law profs at South Texas College of Law lead some student/interns to investigate on all things Governor Bush's background.
He told me Shrub had 2 social security numbers.
Bush the First got Bush the Second out of some traffic stops involving cocaine in the vehicle, and also his AWOL became some "leave of absence" because Bush the First was muscular.
And also, Shrub got out of Nam by joining some Texas Guard shit that nobody even knows exists, 'cause Daddy.
Bet Shrub got paid handsomely to talk behind closed doors, as that is how we do it in the USA.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

...that the Bush crime family conspired to get T elected so W wouldn't have to go down as the worst president in US history.

SO now that he's the 2nd worst president in US history and buddies with the Obamas, he's totally cool with the "what war crimes?' crowd.

That he has the gall to show his face in public, much less parade around like he's some kind of awesome patriot, gripes my ass. Just another example of the gullible American public swallowing great big slimy lies because, you know, the truth hurts.

Thanks for this post.
