Anyone up for another Portland meet-up?

As far as I can tell, the last meet-up was attended by five people and a polar vortex, which blanketed the upper Midwest with snow (see Bollox Ref's diary) and gave California a lot of rain merely by virtue of being near. (There was, as far as I can tell, a bit of time last month when the polar vortex was centered not on the upper Midwest nor on points north, but rather on Alberta and its US cousin, Montana. Brrrr!!!) One consolation: the food was delicious. It was amusing to be at a restaurant which offered a full array of Chinese dishes yet everything tasted like dim sum.

Now that the month once known as February has disappeared from view and we are now in March, perhaps we can speculate about a future time of climate-change-fueled sunshine in which there might be another Portland meet-up?

Just askin'.

Shaharazade and I look forward to it.

Let's not meet at a Chinese restaurant, though. I'm allergic to shellfish and don't trust those delicious dishes. They're yummy. But I'd swell up and have to make jokes about the existential reality of perception and scare shaz. Or maybe I should say the perception of reality, same thing, as in a circle....reality...perception...reality and so on.

But I digress. Yes, let's plan on it!

@Shahryar & I suppose I can never get enough practice presenting my forthcoming book -- I'm going to discuss another chapter at this conference in San Francisco at the end of May.

We should try for something after March 7, when the remainder of the February weather is predicted to run its course.

meet-up than the Feb gathering. Thursday will be first day to get above freezing. The 3+ feet of snow that dropped in the last few days will just be starting to melt. Ground is frozen so I need to be on hand for flooding.

Sorry about the Dim Sum. It was Sunday a traditional day locally for a Dim Sum menu. We could have been more aggressive about getting a regular meal menu. Their duck looked especially good. Plan on stopping my next trip to Portland.

@studentofearth Any thoughts on when the mountain passes might be worth a try?

@Cassiodorus and the schools spring-breaks traffic will be done. Maybe Shahryar could take the lead and find a location to meet everyone's needs.

@studentofearth or Big Al could find a place.

I'm dealing with major health issues, possible surgery. If I'm mobile when time comes, I'll attend a gathering.

@Granma

do we want to make it a lunch? or a coffee thing? Portland has about 1,000 coffee shops. (I should find out what the actual number is...probably lower...probably).

@DonMidwest I'd think that some of the more vocal c99% people in the area would welcome an alternative to cabin fever...

@DonMidwest

when you were in Portland. That was the day I came down with one of the worst illnesses I've ever had! In bed for a week. I measure every illness against that one.

I do need to return a book, but other than that, don't particularly feel like chinese either.

Tried Vietnamese for the first time recently. It was good, but I really wasn't in the mood for adventure.

Been a rough week for me, so forgive me for not being very enthusiastic about stuff. Trying to get back into writing, and would have this morning, except I needed sleep.

For some reason been enjoying some old school Guns and Roses recently, so forgive me for chiming in with music and apologies for bowing out on organizing.

sometime around the 7th or 8th of this month. So I suppose my vote goes for a meeting at any time after that time.
