Hillary Clinton: Europe must curb immigration to stop rightwing populists

“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” Clinton said, speaking as part of a series of interviews with senior centrist political figures about the rise of populists, particularly on the right, in Europe and the Americas.

“I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message – ‘we are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support’ – because if we don’t deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic.”

Hillary still can't admit to herself that she lost the election because she was a horrible candidate and people refused to vote for her.

Clinton urged forces opposed to rightwing populism in Europe and the US not to neglect the concerns about race and identity issues that she says were behind her losing key votes in 2016. She accused Trump of exploiting the issue in the election contest – and in office.

“The use of immigrants as a political device and as a symbol of government gone wrong, of attacks on one’s heritage, one’s identity, one’s national unity has been very much exploited by the current administration here,” she said.

“There are solutions to migration that do not require clamping down on the press, on your political opponents and trying to suborn the judiciary, or seeking financial and political help from Russia to support your political parties and movements.”

And that in February 2014 they did it (and here’s the 4 February 2014 phone call instructing the U.S. Ambassador whom to place in charge of the new regime when the coup will be completed), under the cover of authentic anti-corruption demonstrations that the Embassy organized on the Maidan Square in Kiev, demonstrations that the criminal U.S. ‘news’ media misrepresented as ‘democracy demonstrations,’ though Ukraine already had democracy (but still lots of corruption, even more than today’s U.S. does, and the pontificating Obama said he was trying to end Ukraine’s corruption — which instead actually soared after his coup there).

As Honduran scholar Dana Frank points out in Foreign Affairs, the U.S.-backed post-coup government “rewarded coup loyalists with top ministries,” opening the door for further “violence and anarchy.”

The homicide rate in Honduras, already the highest in the world, increased by 50 percent from 2008 to 2011; political repression, the murder of opposition political candidates, peasant organizers and LGBT activists increased and continue to this day. Femicides skyrocketed. The violence and insecurity were exacerbated by a generalized institutional collapse. Drug-related violence has worsened amid allegations of rampant corruption in Honduras’ police and government. While the gangs are responsible for much of the violence, Honduran security forces have engaged in a wave of killings and other human rights crimes with impunity.

Despite this, however, both under Clinton and Kerry, the State Department’s response to the violence and military and police impunity has largely been silence, along with continued U.S. aid to Honduran security forces. In “Hard Choices,” Clinton describes her role in the aftermath of the coup that brought about this dire situation. Her firsthand account is significant both for the confession of an important truth and for a crucial false testimony.

How un-self aware is Hillary?

That evil woman thinks she has the right to preach to others about how to handle the very fallout from the horrific disasters that she HERself created? Hillary, look in the mirror, you evil woman.

Clinton said rightwing populists in the west met “a psychological as much as political yearning to be told what to do, and where to go, and how to live and have their press basically stifled and so be given one version of reality.

“The whole American system was designed so that you would eliminate the threat from a strong, authoritarian king or other leader and maybe people are just tired of it. They don’t want that much responsibility and freedom. They want to be told what to do and where to go and how to live … and only given one version of reality.

“I don’t know why at this moment that is so attractive to people, but it’s a serious threat to our freedom and our democratic institutions, and it goes very deep and very far and we’ve got to do a better job of shining a light on it and trying to combat it.”

This arrogance of looking down on the populace is very part and parcel of the neoliberal attitude of the ruling class takes to the rest of us peons. They created this unreality for the American people and have suppressed our right to know what is really happening in the world. Obama destroyed the Occupy Movement with violent police attacks and kettling. And then disgustingly, Clinton comes out with her hubristic victim blaming.

The Clintons are nearly single handedly responsible for much of the destruction of the American middle class and the repression of poor and black people under Bill and the violent destruction of many countries under Hillary. And yet neither Clinton is willing to own up for all the human misery that they have caused wherever they go. Unfortunately, the one place they refuse to go is just away forever.

In an outrageous act, the Democratic Party is threatening to pick a Speaker of the House who is even more conservative than Nancy Pelosi if the few progressives in Congress do not concede to the party establishment and endorse her.

The overwhelming majority of the opposition to Pelosi is coming from the right wing of the Democratic House caucus. Think about that. Congressional Democrats are so corporate that Nancy Pelosi is significantly left of center. The party gives us a choice between Pelosi and someone who is even more attached to Wall Street.

Faced with this threat, progressive Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramila Jayapal are giving in and endorsing Pelosi for Speaker. These are the kinds of no-win choices that the party forces progressives to make.

@wendy davis I refuse to believe Hillary really believes that accusation (which I find even more galling) because she has been to Russia more than once and had all the info the State Dept. regarding Russia's ethnic makeup. Maybe not the exact numbers would be fresh in that evil mind,but the reality is its a Country stretched across eleven time zones and with approximately 200 cultures,kinda hard to not notice some variety in the population.

You know, it's not just Clinton, or the Clintons.

We've seen the infamous video of Madeleine Albright ("we think it was worth it") and really, countless other examples where people in power say one thing when the truth is the complete opposite. Somebody must have done a study somewhere that analyzes and defines this type of very odd behavior. They (lizard people?) seem to have the ability to completely believe what they're saying. It's like taking lying to a surreal level where the lies become the truth and the truth becomes the lies (maybe someone wrote about that?).

There is clearly a very serious situation with right wing nationalism in a number of European countries but I don’t think Hillary Clinton had articulated an acceptable policy. Right now there doesn’t seem to be a good answer. And the role of Russia should not be ignored as Russia is doing all it can to back the right wing nationalists and destroy the EU so Russia can be a true superpower.

Certainly a lot of the hate against the immigrants is being stirred up by fake news from Russia and other sources and I would assume social media is playing a big role. Probably the most important thing is for the US to get Donald Trump and his gang of white supremacists out of the White House so the US could assume leadership again on human rights. This can probably be accomplished if all the voter suppression tactics and lies by the Republicans can be overcome in the 2020 election.
