France's Macron turns to dirty politics

French President Emmanuel Macron is a former Rothschild banker and unabashed defender of globalism. He is celebrated by the ruling elite abroad.
In France, OTOH, he's hated.

Fewer than one-in-five French people approve of Emmanuel Macron’s performance since he became president 16 months ago, according to a poll published on Sunday.

The survey of 1,013 adults by Kantar Sofres-onepoint for RTL, LCI and Le Figaro showed that 60 percent have a negative view of his presidency so far, with 19 percent holding a positive opinion. The remainder either had no opinion or were undecided.

Macron is arrogant, aloof, and is known as "the president of the rich".
Just the other day he had to reshuffle his cabinet because people are fleeing his administration.

The difference, however, is Macron’s once sky-high popularity has now plummeted to a lower level than that of any of his last three predecessors at the same moment in their presidencies. Few have started as high and fallen so far.

What Macron has going for him is a badly splintered opposition.
So despite Macron's low poll numbers he didn't have to do what he did today.

rench Leftist firebrand Jean-Luc Mélenchon has broken new ground on social media by broadcasting a police raid on his political headquarters from his mobile phone.

A furious Mr Mélenchon, head of France Insoumise (France Unbowed), filmed as eight police officers searched the party headquarters early on Tuesday, which he slammed as an attempted “coup de force” against his party “to scare and intimidate us”.

He broadcast the raid from his smart phone on Facebook.

Police also searched the headquarters of the Parti de Gauche, a Leftist ally, and Mr Mélenchon’s former assistants. A source close to the inquiry told AFP the raids were connected to two preliminary investigations.

Melenchon has been the leading opposition figure to Macron. So that alone is suspicious.
But what makes this reek of dirty politics is that only days earlier this happened.

The searches came days after French prosecutors announced they were investigating French far-right leader Marine Le Pen for embezzlement of public funds at the European Parliament, a crime carrying a more maximum 10-year prison sentence and a fine of up to €375,000 (£330,000).

Mr Mélenchon appears to have gone one up on Ms Le Pen - his arch-rival who failed to film police when they raided her headquarters in 2016.

After repeated requests to stop recording with her phone, fraud officers reportedly lunged for the device, which she promptly thrust down her cleavage, daring them to "come and get it".

They declined to take up her challenge, according to l'Express magazine.

So Macron's government gets unpopular and shaky, and suddenly the French police start raiding his two primary opposition parties?
Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

I wonder if the French have any leftover tumbrils? They might come in handy. They’re not as afraid to take to the streets as we are.

...if only just for a moment or two, I would like Marine Le Pen.
