Looks like Hillary has a "Special Place in Hell" waiting for her

Remember this? It's why anyone voting for Sanders was a sexist. Even women.

So it's curious why this happened today.

The New York Times reports that Hillary Clinton, in a rare public endorsement since the 2016 election, is expected to announce that she’s backing Cuomo over activist and actress Cynthia Nixon at a state party convention in Long Island this week. Numerous elected officials have already offered their support of Cuomo, including New York junior senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who endorsed him shortly after Nixon announced her run.

Last time I checked Cynthia Nixon was still a woman, and Andrew Cuomo was still a man.
Unless something changed, Hillary is endorsing a man over a woman, and thus earned herself a one-way ticket to H-E-double-toothpicks.

I guess the only thing more important than gender identification is political incumbency.

It appears Andy and Cheeto have some of the same donors. Not unusual for NY. Probably same banksters for Clinton campaign.

ALBANY — While Gov. Cuomo has been a vocal critic of President Trump, the two New Yorkers have had a number of donors and supporters in common.

Anthony Scaramucci, who was briefly Trump's communications director, in 2010 was the finance chairman of "Republicans For Cuomo" while former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is on Trump's current legal team, co-chaired Cuomo's transition committee on public safety in 2010.

Trump Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has given Cuomo's gubernatorial campaigns $15,000. He also gave another nearly $13,000 to Cuomo's attorney general campaigns, records show.

Among the other joint donors are hedge fund manager John Paulson, billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, and businessman Ronald Perelman.

Will Andy's brother be more muted on his teevee show?

Cuomo's internal polling may be bad among centrists and this announcement was payback to the baroness.

Not often I see a TOP headline that merits a mention here.

Trump is thrown in as a bankster since he deals with real estate and banks all of the time.

What was more galling, but not totally unexpected was the baroness' appearance at the NYS Dem Gathering today to voice her #I'm with him because "he gets stuff done." Like the subway system that needs an overhaul and Cuomo hasn't done anything for it.

Today she claims you have to vote Democrat because (from Politico):

“If you want an economy that works for you and your family, you’ve got to vote for Democrats,” she said. “If you want to be sure people have affordable, quality health care, you’ve got to vote for Democrats. If you want to protect and expand the rights of all Americans — not just those in the top 1 percent — you’ve got to vote for Democrats.”

Ready for the gag...

Clinton’s speech focused mostly on broad party principles, including quality health care, combating climate change, supporting abortion rights, comprehensive immigration reform and “getting money out of politics.”

I don't know if anyone smiled or laughed at that last bit.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal Hear hear! I've always said endorsing The Clinton Creature was the ultimate White Privilege gesture-- presumably (or one would've been crazy otherwise) one had health care, a good job, kids in legacy schools or out of them, $$$, LOVED NPR, etc etc (unless one was among the subset at TOP, the fanatical ones, who loved to post soft-pornish, airbrushed pix of HER from their 'safe space').

This of course belies the fact that at its heart, the concept of Democracy implies compassion/empathy for those sans health, a good job, kids in legacy schools or out of them, $$$, to whom NPR et al are totally irrelevant (as they should be). But no! Never mind the disenfranchised! It was HER TURN, dammit! And how pleasant to have a woman president! Who cares about war, regime change, income inequality, fracking, for-profit prisons, pay to play, corruption, Wall Street/corporate legislation, and all the other nastiness Clinton INC has brought to town since they slithered into town 30 years ago? I believe I mentioned this on TOP pre-Ides of March fascist edicts-- and how how the flying monkeys descended!!!!

It really means a lot to Hillary that Cuomo get the nod, not Cynthia Nixon. They're circling the wagons. Gillibrand, too. The whole damned Establishment. They're defending their ground.

Thing is, the ground contained within a circle of wagons may be more vigorously defended, but it's a very, very, very, very tiny piece of the prairie. Look at all the expanse that Dems used to call their own. Who's gonna claim that now?

Fucking Democrats may actually be more morally and ethically corrupt then the Republicans.

Sure, the Republicans support a lot of nasty did but at least they and their supporters actually BELIEVE that what they support is for the benefit of the nation ultimately.

The Democratic party leadership don't even support their own stated platform let alone believe they should...

That's just out there so they can fool the Rubes into voting for them again and again.

Bernie Supporters = Unshaven “White Supremacists”
In the public’s mind, Clinton’s “deplorables” quip is remembered as evidence of her disdain for much of Trump’s fan base. But there was one other group Clinton had a similar dislike of: Bernie Sanders supporters. As one person who had talked to Clinton about the difference between Trump and Sanders crowds recounted, her feeling was that “at least white supremacists shaved.”

It's good for a laugh for the final reason why Her lost

Hillary Clinton’s Self-Defeating Triangulation

In an election as strange as 2016’s, there are any number of factors one could point to as to why Clinton lost the election, all of which Clinton herself and her backers will be happy to tell you about. There’s James Comey and the FBI, Russia, sexism, Bernie Sanders, the Left, Jill Stein, her own campaign team, as well as numerous others. it was none of those things because It was the lack of any coherent program for the country.

But even among the lengthy list of failings outlined the book, one stands out as particularly flabbergasting: Clinton’s, and by extension her campaign’s, failure to formulate an actual vision for her campaign and presidency.

This may not seem a particularly groundbreaking conclusion for those who have spent time picking over post-mortems of the Clinton campaign. Despite Clinton’s reputation as a detail-driven wonk, a Wesleyan University study found that Clinton’s campaign ads were less policy-focused than any candidate in the past four races (including Trump) and that 90 percent of them focused on attacking Trump as an individual.

Clinton herself would frequently shift her positions over the course of her campaign (in one debate, she came out for the $15 minimum wage despite her previous opposition to it, then almost immediately modulated her position after the debate), leading many to suspect she was more interested in simply winning the presidency than enacting any kind of coherent agenda.

When he (Bernie) launched his campaign, his speech underlined the importance of creating an economy that worked for all Americans, not just a handful of billionaires — the very message he would stubbornly hammer throughout the campaign that excited so many people.

By contrast, Clinton “didn’t really have a rationale” for running, we’re told.

Weren't we told over and over again that Hillary was the most qualified candidate evah to run for president and that she had thee most progressive platform evah?

While over the past few decades, workers have been increasingly shafted, poverty has exploded, and Americans continue to be bankrupted or killed by what can only generously be described as a health care “system,” Clinton couldn’t understand why people were so angry. Six months in, “she still didn’t grasp the underlying sentiments of the electorate.” “What is the appeal of a Sanders?” she wondered. Nearly a year in, she confessed to an aide: “I don’t understand what’s happening with the country. I can’t get my arms around it.”

The book shows how this lack of political perception, combined with Clinton’s reflexive centrism, created a perfect storm of self-defeating triangulation. Pressed to come out strong against the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) during a March economic speech in Detroit, she instead touted a “clawback” proposal to yank away corporate tax breaks for companies that offshored jobs, and buried the TPP in a single mention later in the speech. Advised by Tony Blair that “the Left would lose if it ran a ‘base’ election,” she fretted about moving leftward. She only reluctantly added Elizabeth Warren to her vice presidential shortlist, but, uncomfortable with Warren’s criticisms of Obama and looking for “someone who saw the world in a similar way,” she chose Tim Kaine, whose dullness was his chief benefit.

When your campaign staff has to come up with ideas for why you wanted to be president, well that's just sad. I'd think that it would be the candidate's job to do that.

Her campaign finally did come up with a reason for why she should be the next president and not Trump: Fall back on something that worked before.

It all reached its logical conclusion with the campaign’s desperate, eleventh-hour resort to explicitly modelling its message on 1950s Republican Red Scare tactics, tying Trump to Russian president Vladimir Putin. “If the public saw Trump putting Russian interests above American sovereignty, Hillary’s aides thought, the story had the potential to break his back,” write Allen and Parnes. “After all, in the Red Scare days, Republicans had portrayed liberals Democrats as un-American in unflinching terms.” We can thus trace the current Cold War–like Russo-hysteria that has engulfed liberals and Democrats since the election directly to the Clinton campaign.

That's a wrap! This is why this country has been made hysterical about Russia destroying our very democratic values. Hillary needed a reason for why she wanted to be president.

I truly don’t wish to offend anyone, because I understand and share the hostility and sense of offence that Clinton fosters and often deserves. I just don’t understand the on-going value in promoting aggression of any form. I guess I question whether it serves a purpose that can in some way forward our dire situation? Maybe it does, and I just don’t see it. Clinton has, and I’m sure will continue to try and deter meaningful progress, making true advancement more difficult; but I’d rather not give her, or her supporters, more fuel to fight against, because from my perspective feeding the fire only inflates it.

Yes, we should call her out on all that is destructive, but try to do it objectively, rather than personally.

Their ilk? Insatiable. I saw a news piece where Barack and Michelle Obama have signed a development deal with Netflix. It trumpeted that the 125 million Netflix viewers will now be treated to the Obamas, both in front of the camera and behind it (as producers and developers of content). I scanned 4 different accounts of the deal and couldn't find how much they're being paid. Imagine that.

spreading ‘the fire’ in a way that informs and motivates others to ‘fight’ back. I think about the massive number of people Sanders energised with his message and style of delivery. He expressed great anger, and made it clear where he felt it should be directed, but he stuck with the issues and didn’t make it personal which might have detracted from the message itself.

@janis b but I'm not. The way I look at it, we are at war. It's a class war, and most of us have been losing, every skirmish, every battle. We trusted these democrats, these traitors, who profited while bringing me, and people I care about to their knees. And they are still doing it today. I envy your ability to to look beyond, but I can't, I'm still living the harm they caused. As long as they still breathe I wish nothing more than to see their downfall, to see them on their knees, to know what it's like to live like the rest of us.

those people brought to their knees, but unfortunately that probably wouldn’t change your situation. They still wouldn’t be capable of understanding or appreciating your suffering, because they have no respect of any kind. I think it would be heartbreaking if they took our sense of self-respect away.

@janis b you are right that it might not change anything.

But putting the fear of the masses in the ones that replace them likely couldn't hurt.

And besides, I'm not content with being "The Better man".

Now I'm interested more in vengeance.

Sure, I get that, "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind."

And I don't care anymore.

Why should these fucks be the only ones allowed to see?

yep I fully concede that it is petty but nevertheless I want these fuckers to have to walk around as blind as I am...

I'm already used to it and have adapted. I doubt they will be able to do the same.

On that note, I am off to prepare dinner for a friend that I hope will be mutually enjoyed.

@janis b @mimi
Hey there lovely folks.

First heard this quote from Hedges and it's one of my favorite:

“Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and Courage.
Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are.”

I think if you look inside MLK's evolved and deeply humane preaching there's a definitive core of anger at the insane institution of racist policies that imprisoned and justified indiscriminate killing his people. How could there not be anger at the heart of it? For larger society it is the motivating factor of disgust and anger at the greed, caprice and sociopathy of the rulers, coupled with love and compassion for the oppressed, that puts us into action.

Without getting heavy into it because I don't have the time, many of my favorite human beings were driven by righteous anger and fits of rage, including John Lennon, Mark Twain, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, etc.

It's paradoxical in a way. The anger I think (for me anyway) comes from knowing that we all know these things on a fundamental level (i.e. universality of life's societal problems/solutions, there's an unnecessary rat race devouring us, that we're not able to spend time with friends and family as much as we'd like because of it, etc). But we're blinded and misguided by propaganda to pit us against one another. It's out of a love for humanity, one's fellow travelers, that we even care in the first place. It's driven by a wish to see come to fruition another world that is possible, not only for ourselves but the people around us similarly struggling and often forced into degrading and compromised positions just in order to survive. That makes me (us) angry. That we know it's within our grasp as humanity.

The kind of righteous indignation we have here helps articulates the problem as a systemic one, and hopefully galvanizes people to recognize the source of their malaise so that they (we)'re not walking around depressed like we've brought it onto ourselves because of something we did individually.

I like this quote too:

"Human history began with an act of disobedience, and it is not unlikely that it will be terminated by an act of obedience."
Erich Fromm

I think it was Lewis Lapham who said that democracy is troublemaking. Disobey, subvert, don't comply.

Throw proverbial rocks at institutions, lying politicians and the status quo. That's how I understand it.

That - and facts - are about all I have to fight with.

Edit: and also feel that frequent reminders of those facts are essential, in the face of all of the whitewashing, censorship and propaganda. I think it was Linda? who pointed out, some time back, that outrage was essential to us underdogs?

Mockery, also, I believe, both to morale and to burst the adulatory bubble the corporate media blows to encapsulate the minds of their targeted victims.

@Ellen North I couldn't agree more.

Mockery is POWERFUL as nobody wants to be painted the fool and two and to follow one that is largely perceived as such.

I've been using "intelligent, fact based mockery" against the God Botherers for decades to great success and self amusement. Smile

I see no reason why it wouldn't work with any other group of asshats...

@Alphalop
Aggression, anger, rage and mockery imho are four different things. Anger and fits of anger out of despair over social, racial or gender injustice is a motivator to work for change, mockery is a tool to bring down and into light your enemy's lies, aggression is at least potentially an act of purposeful violence against potentially innocent people, rage is the loss of control to channel your anger into venues that won't destroy yourself or others, who are potentially innocent (both sides being unarmed).

I see the 'evil meaningful demagogues" incite on purpose the desire of the betrayed to become aggressive with the only intend for them to have a justification to kill, shoot or destroy those, who were not able to manage their rightful anger into non-violent venues of opposition. To me it's a trick and I think one should be aware of that 'trick' being used for evil purposes. (With the word 'psychopath' I have difficulties to understand what that really means. Therefore I don't use it).

Spreading opposition voices and anger expressed in words is good. Spreading fire, I dunno, I would be careful playing with that kind of fire. It can easily burn the wrong people.

Just saying. Hope it's ok.

She was a tough fighter. How do you get ready for dying? It's simply good to "stand by each other", with or without words.
