Petition to end the Federal Reserve Edited
Edit: I am not here to argue with anyone about whether or not this petition will do anything or the value of having a petition. I originally posted this as an information item in case anyone wanted to view the petition or sign it.
For those so inclined, I am posting a link to a White House petition to end the Federal Reserve. I have signed it myself, but can understand if people here are leery of doing so.
Honestly, until recent years, I knew very little about the Federal Reserve. While most of you here probably are familiar with how the Federal Reserve operates and the powers it has, I am embedding an eight minute video below that gives a brief history of the Federal Reserve and its massive powers for those who do not know.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zlw1BVSx5gk]
One of the reasons I am putting this out here is because I firmly believe that nothing will change in this country until we limit or do away with the powerful central banks. Wars and all of the other major ills facing us humans are ultimately tied to the big banks who make money regardless of who wins.
For those who do not want to watch the video but still are interested in signing the petition, here is the link to the petition. The petition has five main points.

Other continuity errors
Not to mention Mr. Unruhe telling us how an entity was founded in 1914 to solve problems arising in 1929.
???
In cinema, this is known as a continuity error. And when one is trying to show oneself a competent commentator, one should avoid such things.

In other words, Congress could not figure out what to do. Created an independent agency over which they have no control. So they did not have to decide, legislate or vote.

Ergo, a dozen or so people now decide the economic fate of over 300 million.
Gee. That was a good idea.

audit the Fed
"We the people" should own the Fed, all of it. Of all the banks needing nationalized, the case is the strongest for the Fed.
A constitutional amendment prohibiting Congress from delegating its power to coin money outside of the federal government would also be a good idea.....

Probably the only thing anyone's said that I can get behind.
But I'm sure you know as well as I do the cappies would slaughter us all before allowing that to happen.

Well isn't that the entire purpose of "ending" or
Ending the private federal reserve system and instituting public banking, like in South Dakota the only state with one, would go a long way to creating a more socialist society.
Vermont
people like this are "leading" us.
At one time in the not-so-distant past, there were signs that Vermont was open to exploring a public banking system. Oddly enough, I've heard nothing about it since. Perhaps it's becauseMore and better Democrats!
That Chris Hedges article mimi posted about is spot-fucking-on. (Sorry for the profanity. I'm a bit pissed off today).

Speaking of audits
The pentagon has misplaced $21 trillion. This is up by $19 trillion since Rumsfeld told us on 09/10/2001 that he found out that $2.3 trillion got lost somewhere. BTW, the backup files for the money were in building 7 of the trade center. Convenient, no?
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
Coincidence?

Coincidence?
I am still trying to rationalize Pearl Harbor, the Kennedy assassination, and Gulf of Tonkin.
Great catch.
Keep at it, my friend.

So you want to go back to Gold?
Do you know how that worked out?
EVERY modern nation has a fiat currency regulated by a central bank. In most of them, the government owns the bank. I suggest that nationalizing the Fed is a better idea than going bank to 19th century currency non-regulation.
I highly recommend that you study Galbraith's "Money, whence it came, where it went" before signing right-wing goldbug petitions.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
Signed, sealed, delivered.
The Fed Reserve system does need to be abolished and that should be high on any list of
demandsedicts developed for the revolution. It is completely undemocratic and unconstitutional and like our political system, serves the One percent. The constitution has only ever served the bourgeoisie.

Certainly this petition isn't going to make it happen.
@# But I have to disagree with the stance of that person on the video. I tried listening to the seven minute mark and he said nothing other than he disagrees with the "conspiracy theories".
I find it interesting that an anti-capitalist Marxist communist is defending an ultra capitalist private central banking system.

He's right about one
thing... capitalism would
fail without The Fed.
Which really is the only reason for its existence.
The Fed essentially is the Safety Net of capitalism, and it has protected it very well.
And, The Aspie Corner is right. It only serves the robber barons, the cappies.
The Fed is of, by and for the cappies. The rest of us just pawns on their chess board.

I am currently trying to read
Nomi Prins' "Collusion" and haven't gotten far yet. I've read others about the financial crisis and I have a rudimentary understanding of the Fed from those. I just read a dark "satire" a couple weeks ago called "The History of the Decline and Fall of America" by Scott Erickson. He touches on our monetary system and how it requires constant growth and some of the why of that. The point of that bit was that when the Fed is "creating money" what its doing is relying on private debt instruments from the banks to do that. And in order to keep up with the now constant interest, the system itself would crash without further growth. I'm only just wrapping my head around that concept, and I do see how that relates to MMT and the idea of truly public banking and loans from the government itself without interest. That book also mentioned both Lincoln and JFK wanting to separate the Fed from private banking as well...
And yes, the Fed was indeed created by the cabal in that video, and they do essentially own it as well. I'm not sure I will sign the petition, I've stopped signing those things pretty much after 2016. And I didn't know that total of $29T but it makes perfect sense from what I have read. Try to tell people about that and they look at you like you're a nutter but it's all connected. The wars, the privatization of everything, what's going to happen to the home environment now that we're bringing our pollution back home, unemployment not anywhere as low as these assholes say, lack of decent healthcare, private prisons, all connected to the banks and money. The current Fed should be abolished and replaced, I agree with that.

when Lincoln was president
There was no Fed, or anything like it, when Abraham Lincoln was President. The Fed was first established in 1913.
In his day, paper money was still issued by private banks, theoretically backed by gold coin held by the issuers. Once the War of the Southern Treason began, the Treasury issued banknotes without specific backing, much like the ones the Fed issues now. source

Today's almighty dollar
is "backed" by the
almighty U.S. of A.
All 320 million of us.
Only if the almighty U.S. of A. collapses will the almighty dollar collapse.
The recent events of some countries trading for oil in Euros (or thinking about it) instead of dollars suggests slacking faith in the less than almighty U.S. of A. And where the country goes the dollar follows.
TPTB don't seem to understand this relationship, becuz if they did they'd be investing their hard(ly) earned in Space and Mars and infrastructure at home and... and all kinds of projects. But that would create jobs which would create more wealth (for the wrong people - the 99%), and they can't be having none of that. So... so, countries pay for oil with Euros, instead, believing (correctly) that the once mighty U.S. of A. has seen better days. And we send in the tanks in response. gawd I love this country!

Good catch, thanks for that!
Anyway, his point was the debt being incurred by the very creation of money and how that related to a system based on unsustainable, constant growth. Some things started making more sense to me with that regarding Fed Reserves and the banks. I'm still having to think through it but that one small point in that book helped me understand it a bit better. It was the film "Inside Job" that finally cemented in for me just what a CDO/CDS is even after reading about those things for a while before seeing that film.
The book is great although a bit dark. It is told from after the final collapse and is essentially fiction but it was good and disturbing at the same time. Just the kind of dark shit I seem to be in a phase with right now.
