Bernie Sanders Gains BIg Union Endorsement

I was on the computer and Mr. Scribe was watching CNN, when he yelled, "WOO-HOO!"

That got my attention.

His union, Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has endorsed Bernie Sanders.

They made their decision after surveying the members -- as a retiree member, Mr. S. made his feelings known through the web site. This follows the pattern set throughout this primary -- if an executive board chooses to endorse without member input, they typically go with Hillary Clinton, while if a union or organization checks with the membership, they go with Bernie Sanders.

From the union statement, quoting International President Larry Hanley:

“This is no ordinary time in U.S. history and our nation is crying out for a leader who owes nothing to the corporate interests responsible for undermining the American middle class,” says Hanley. “Our executive board recognizes what’s at stake in this election and have made the bold decision of endorsing Bernie Sanders for President. Bernie is right for working people and right for America."

Many of the upcoming states have significant public transit footprints, many of those workers members of ATU:

ATU is the largest labor organization representing transportation workers in United States and Canada. With more than 192,000 members in 253 local unions spread across 47 states and nine provinces, including 3,000 workers at Greyhound Lines, Inc., ATU members work as bus drivers, light rail operators, maintenance and clerical personnel and other transit and municipal employees.

This is YUGE news in this union household, and hopefully YUGE for the Sanders campaign as well.

for the good news. When working people across the board regardless of all this culture war stirring of our own pot, get a load of what Clinton is about and what the Sanders campaign is about it gives me heart. Not in Bernie, even though he's a great pol, but in ordinary the people's ability to see beyond the fear and listen to the message that's getting through the megaphone of fear and loathing. He may not win according to the powers that be and the knights that say Nie! but his campaign is waking people up.

We will prevail as 'the intolerable status quo' is getting more and more transparent and divide and conquer just won't cut the divide and conquer won't work when everybody knows. Thank you Bernie for meeting the reality head on. It's hard to have to filter reality through this fucked up mess of data/numbers, stupid baseless fear, propaganda and misinformation the psycho ruler's of the world' blast daily at us peons to convince us all that resistance is futile. This is not our only choice we can as humans stop this shit, we will as they once again have gone too far.Who gives a rat's ass about what Hillary the Hun has to say. It's nothing anyone of goodwill to humans or the planet should consider a valid choice. Whatever this woman is advocating it's insane and has no connection to the reality now or past. Kissinger? Albright? Raygun? None of this nasty side of America will do.

They always throughout history go too far and we need to stop these mad people once again. Democracy is the best way but one way or another they need to be reined in. They are left unchecked including, Democrat's, Hun's, Babylonians, Nazis, Southern Diplomats, Dixiecrats, Tory's or whatever form they take. A scourge on humanity and the planet we all live on. I'm not very good at the politesse but man oh man do I know a bad ass representative of everything I do hated disguised as a democratic, rational, pragmatic, choice. Neither she or the crazies on the right offer anything I can and will vote for. Your vote is your consenting to this madness and I vote NO WAY!

Thanks for that good news. Optimism ... I like it. I'm feeling pretty good tonight. Staying away from the GOS has done wonders for my mood. Smile

i clicked on a link in a reddit comment thread (kossacks_for_sanders) which included a comment from the great kos himself re: the first purge, & the righthand sidebar had a half-dozen or so rec listed diaries--& after perusing it, it only confirmed my decision to stop going there.

total waste of time.

I liked this a lot:

“The sincerity of Bernie Sanders and his long-standing fidelity to the issues that are so important to working people are what convinced us that standing with Bernie is standing with the 99 percent of America that has been left out of the mainstream public debate, cheated out of our jobs and denied the true meaning of the American dream,”

Larry Hanley, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, which represents some 200,000 workers, said in a statement Monday.

I'm assuming it's part of the same statement
