This may come as a shock to you, but Betsy DeVos does not believe that public school teachers should strike.
Why? Because she cares about poor kids.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos criticized Oklahoma teachers who are on strike over school funding cuts, telling them to “serve the students,” according to the Dallas Morning News.“I think about the kids,” DeVos said last week while touring a Dallas middle school. “I think we need to stay focused on what’s right for kids. And I hope that adults would keep adult disagreements and disputes in a separate place, and serve the students that are there to be served.”
What, Betsy? What do you think about "the kids"?

Surprisingly, Betsy didn't approve of the West Virginia strike either.

As for how we got to this point, you can either believe the WashPost, which says we've got to choose between feeding the teachers or feeding the elderly.

We're making a huge mistake.
Many of us seem to operate under the faulty assumption that the elites want an educated populace. That's the last thing they want. Their plan is to neuter public education and saddle college students with so much debt they're too busy to complain. Sadly, the plan is working.
Heard an interview
Unfortunately, I didn't hear the whole thing. On NPR, today, but couldn't find it when I went looking for it.
The woman being interviewed said something like, "The money they are talking about isn't even enough to buy one textbook for each student in Oklahoma. And if we decided to buy a book, which one would it be? Math? English? Which one?"
It's in such a deplorable state - the whole educational system is shit, and our teachers' hands are tied.
Ditzy DeVos should be fired and jailed.
But since she gave massive handjobs to the Republican Party to get the job in the first place, I doubt that's ever going to happen. Her answer to this shit can literally be summed up by this Homer Simpson quote:

That's her first mistake. Serve the principals, serve the state, serve the charters and religious schools, serve the poverty/health needs of the students, serve the whims of the parents, serve the test makers... Teaching seems to have taken a back seat on a teacher's list of priorities.
