This is how you know you live in a failing Empire

At around 8am on Saturday morning, Hawaii's emergency alert system sent out a shocking tweet: "Ballistic Missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek Immediate shelter, This is not a drill."

The emergncy alert was sent to all Hawaiian cellphones...

Saturday morning Hawaiian television shows were interrupted...

— Timothy Burke (@bubbaprog) January 13, 2018

Hawaii's Emergency Management Agency responded 20 minutes later...

NO missile threat to Hawaii.

— Hawaii EMA (@Hawaii_EMA) January 13, 2018

Hawaii Emergency Management Agency spokesman Richard Repoza confirmed it's a false alarm. He says the agency is trying to determine what happened.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard quickly took to Twitter to confirm the emergency alert a false alarm...

HAWAII - THIS IS A FALSE ALARM. THERE IS NO INCOMING MISSILE TO HAWAII. I HAVE CONFIRMED WITH OFFICIALS THERE IS NO INCOMING MISSILE. pic.twitter.com/DxfTXIDOQs

— Tulsi Gabbard (@TulsiGabbard) January 13, 2018

U.S. Pacific Command spokesman Cmdr. David Benham said in a statement that PACOM "has detected no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii" and that an "earlier message was sent in error."

Who is standing between us and the insane Neocons who are running US foreign policy?

Is Donald Trump the only one fighting the Deep State and pushing back on the assholes in the State Department and the Intelligence Agency cartels? Because he is too clueless to be of much use. He filled his Cabinet with Deep State Neocons and takes his foreign policy advice from the Council on Foreign Relations. These people:

Largely unbeknownst to the general public, many media executives and top journalists of almost all major US news outlets have long been members of the influential Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Established in 1921 as a private, bipartisan organization to “awaken America to its worldwide responsibilities”, the CFR and its close to 5000 elite members have for decades shaped U.S. foreign policy and public discourse about it. As one Council member famously explained, the goal has indeed been to establish an “empire”, albeit a “benevolent” one.

Based on official membership rosters, the following illustration for the first time depicts the extensive media network of the CFR and its two main international affiliate organizations: the Bilderberg Group (covering mainly the U.S. and Europe) and the Trilateral Commission (covering North America, Europe and East Asia), both established by Council leaders to foster elite cooperation at the international level.

Click on this picture to see the full-sized view.
Then click again for a blow-up.

In a column entitled “Ruling Class Journalists”, former Washington Post senior editor and ombudsman Richard Harwood once described the Council and its members approvingly as “the nearest thing we have to a ruling establishment in the United States”.

You can also see the report here.

There is nobody standing between us and them. Nobody.

Lol, can they make it into those 10-20 minutes? And have they been stocked with oxygen as well as food an water, or will they be breathing radioactive air, even if they do? Of course, if they have insider info on when a strike is planned, it'd probably help.

@Big Al

He's like a bull periodically stung by a bee. Lashing out at the continuous humiliations, dead ends, leaks, sabotage, and reversals of fortune. He can't figure out that it all comes from the same place. He doesn't know where he is being herded. Yesterday, he thought the Deep State was in the Justice Department. It is, but that's the least of his problems. The only thing he does right is threatening Iran. But then he gets pushback from the rest of the world and the UN, which is also annoying. He doesn't know the Neocons have been controlling him since April; and he remains a thorn in their side, except for his born-again Israel passion and natural zionism.

We anti-warriors are a constant populist menace to the Deep State. We outnumber them but are unable to coalesce into a force. Their view of us was best expressed by Karl Rove:

“We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”

I've given this some thought. The Neocons did, after all, capture the Democratic Party and ate them for breakfast. Who else is in this struggle?

@Big Al I believe the Deep State took care of him long ago. As I think Assange said, "Now we know how long it takes for the Deep State to get control of a president."

That's assuming he wasn't working for the Deep State, via doing a favor for the Clintons, all along; my view is that he probably was, but then refused at the last minute to take a dive, because his massive ego got in the way of the plan.

Seek immediate shelter

Where? How? With whom? For how long? How will we survive in the shelter, for as long as we have to be there? How will we survive in the aftermath?

You know, the obvious questions that no one answered in the '50s and early '60s, and still aren't addressing.

@mimi I believe you're thinking of Donald Rumsfeld, Dubya's Secretary of Defense. He's the one who uttered that infamous "known unknowns" quote, in response to a question about whether Iraq possessed WMDs:

There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tend to be the difficult ones.

In other words, who cares whether they have WMDs? We're going to destroy the Middle East.

What would Jalal-ud-Din Rumi, the 13th century Persian mystic and poet (see my siggy) say, if he saw the nuclear "big one" heading his way?

Perhaps this?

Oh Beloved,
take me.
Liberate my soul.
Fill me with your love and
release me from the two worlds.
If I set my heart on anything but you
let fire burn me from inside.

Oh Beloved,
take away what I want.
Take away what I do.
Take away what I need.
Take away everything
that takes me from you.

@Centaurea That's because the only way to address them is not to have a nuclear war.

I've been thinking of interspersing a Weekly Rant with my Something Old, Something New open thread, and my rant about the shift in views on nuclear war is substantial. So far I haven't delivered it anywhere except inside my own head. But the ways in which our thinking utterly transforms, apparently without anybody noticing it, is horrifying.

HRC signalled the horrific change in our views on nuclear war during her campaign, in her speech at the American Legion, and the only person to take any notice was Jimmy Dore. You wouldn't believe how many people don't see that her words signal a terrifying change, even when I share the Dore video with them.

This is the video. This is the political gesture she made that would have made me do a 180 degree-turn against her, even if I had been wholeheartedly in support before. Jump past all the crap where Dore debates with his guest about the nature of New McCarthyism and get to the stuff about Hillary at 4:26.

If you think about what she's saying, it's terrifying. We never would have survived the Cold War with policy ideas like this. Unfortunately, it's not just her who holds her views.

Trump Golfs While Hawaiians Endure Nuclear Panic

But here’s the thing. The US military knew all along that there was no such threat. Nobody from the Pentagon tried to reassure the public.
...
And, President Trump was on his West Palm Beach golf course and got the notice that it was a false alarm. He just went on playing golf. Then he wrapped up the game. He never tweeted any reassurance to the people of Hawaii.
...
Of all the horrible things Trump has said and done, declining to give the straight scoop to panicked Hawaiians is the absolute worst.

The US constitution, Article 3, Section 3, Clause 1, defines treason in this way:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

I propose that by declining immediately to refute the false alarm, Trump gave aid and comfort to North Korea, which has been attempting to play mind games with Hawaiians as part of its belligerent strategy toward the United States.
I’d say that’s an

impeachable offense.

I wonder what Trumps reaction would have been when the false alarm would have been issued in the city of Washington DC. Kind of haunting to think that scenario through in earnest...

I am not surprised by the reaction of Hawaiians to the alert, but I've been inoculated and wouldn't have done anything but raise a glass of kindness. When I was a kid, living just outside DC, my dad, everybody's dad, worked for the government. During the Cuban missile crisis, my dad suddenly appeared, during the day, running down over neighbors's lawns to our house. He ran inside, grabbed my mom, and the two had urgent conversation. Then he hugged us all, kissed us all, told us he loved us, and took off running back the way he'd come. My mother was totally distracted. She told us to get stuff and get in the basement. Take water, blankets, she, a very organized no nonsense woman, was in a dither. I only found out much later what had happened. My dad, and everyone in his department, had been told that a nuclear attack from Cuba was imminent. Their phones were disconnected, and they were forbidden to leave the premises. They were to stay at their desks until fried, I guess. But my darling dad and his car pool buddy, said f this! we have to warn our families, and they sneaked out, drove back to our suburb, kissed their families goodbye, and drove back into DC to await the end. They told their wives that they could not tell any neighbors or anyone that they had been there. Well, we sat around in our damp half finished "basement" for hours with a couple of pitchers of water and some blankets, eating Saltines and peeking outside to see what on earth was going to happen. Had it happened yet? And ya know what. I will never ever again cower in some damp hole waiting for the end. Let er rip!

I have been down with the flu and am just catching up here.

I do not believe for one moment that this was a case of someone accidentally pushing the wrong button. For dog's sake, all systems of such a magnitude (should) have built in redundancies to prevent something like this from happening "accidentally." I believe that this was a test by sinister governmental forces using the general population of Hawaii as guinea pigs. This smells of a deep state operation to me just like so many other things that have not made sense in recent years.

us to see how we react to the incidence. I would say a "no comment" comment would thoroughly disappoint those who indeed monitor online responses to this incidence.

FUBAR beyond imagination situations make a good reason to go to sleep and say nothing.

The whole thing reminds me of my mother, who answered our question as kids of where she was and what she felt when Hitler declared war. She said she had her lunch break and was sitting at the edge of a public fountain/spring dipping her feet into the water and thought 'and now what? what does it mean'? She obviously had no clue and we kids were disappointed about that kind of 'boring answer' she gave us. Well, they knew for sure later on what it meant...

(It also reminds of the guy, Former Facebook Exec: Social Media Is Ripping Our Social Fabric Apart, Chamath Palihapitiya, SAYING in an interview in December, that "deep, deep back in their minds, they somehow knew what they had created").

The video was posted twice here on C99p. I guess some folks knew deep back in their minds too, that to push the wrong button was a "strange thingy" one would allow to potentially happen, when it comes to a nuclear attack on the US). But helas, my back of my mind is currently drowned with conflicting feelings and such a muddy mess, it's unusable. Smile
