As a pedestrian you look the wrong way, see it is clear and strike out confidently. Or something. In New Zealand where they drive on the left the sidewalks have reminders on the curbs for foreigners.

but the content resizes with the window now and it didn't when the menu was on the left. May not be the reason for the shift, but I suspect there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to accommodate the influx of us n00bs. I have no doubt we've made it hard on the designers/maintainers of the space, but I'm grateful every time I come here to check in...
as JtC mentioned it in a thread. That should help with the slowness, but in terms of workability and adding features, I know that takes a lot of man hours once you get past the basics so I'm planning on making regular donations and hoping the site designers will notify us when they need feedback...
Take a look at the member list - and notice the number of people who have signed up in the past week. From about 300 to more than 800. WOW!
Damn, I'm just grateful we can still log on
Think this site is amazing, and doing yeoman's work to welcome all the "refugees."

has been in existence for over a year. It was never our intent to be seen as the anti-kos, because our original intent was to be more focused upon issues than partisan races.
Before DK5, several of us put a link in our sig lines over there hoping that people would visit us and check us out. Then DK5 did away with visible sig lines. Over the past year or so, we stabilized at about 200 members until recently.
Last Friday through Sunday, I was out of town and without internet service. When I came back, you can imagine my shock to see that our sleepy little site had quadrupled its membership! We had expected that with the primary season that we would get some new members, but I do not believe any of us thought it would be this many in such a short time. It is a wonderful thing and we love having all of you, but we were caught by the tsunami of new members.
What really heartens me about our new members is how many of you are immediately contributing great content to this site. Thank you for coming and contributing. It is awesome!

If there is a good reason for this, or it's necessary for tech reason, then I could suck it up and deal with it.
For writing Hellraisers I need to have two screens open and with things on the left, I can slip it over far enuf to be out of view, it's distracting to see the conversations going on as I write.
I can roll the right hand column under but it makes the writing room really weird with things bleeding out of the writing box.
Please remember that I spend 4 to 5 hours a day in the writing room
Please explain.
But most important thing I have to say here is THANK YOU for all of your hard work JtC!!!!!

or a major annoyance, for us to make a list of what we'd like to see in future iterations?
I don't want to make any demands of those working on the backside, but if its helpful to them to know what makes the site more/less user friendly, we could try posting an open thread with suggestions for everyone to vote on...
Really want a "I was replied to" notification. For me, It's less of an issue, because I'm TRYING to read everybody's stuff, but as we continue to grow, I know that's going to be nearly impossible.

that I think magic is happening. All of these people liked their site, but they opened up their door and welcomed us in, risking the possibility of getting orange cooties! Thank you so much.
And now, we have been asked, in an essay, to actually participate in their building process. Much preferable to "We're changing. Get used to it."

Damn!
I am an old dog and now I gotta re-learn? Heaven help me if I ever have to drive in the British Isles.
I am sure there is a good reason for this. Perhaps to keep us on our toes?

I certainly hope
there's work going on. I like the site but it is often slooooooow.
I know a plan for a server move is in the works

Do we get a vote on this? Makes it harder to write diaries.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
I am like the most untech person in the world.
so when I see a change like this, I try to give feedback and then I try to be patient.
I know work is ongoing, I think feedback helps and that JtC will answer when he can.
Hope he is getting help from tech savvy members, hate to think of him doing this all on his own.
We should put together a fund raising essay next week sometime. Johnny isn't the type to ask for donations and he shouldn't have to.
I'm willing to help with that, anyone else on board with that?

I was just being funny, but

Did you see your call out here.

It's a work in progress! Thanks for your hard work, everyone!

Am I on drugs this morning and I forgot to let myself know?

I know
I refreshed the page and *bam* everything is back on the left. Makes me wonder if someone is messing with us to see what happens...
Your title scared me for a minute.
Made me think c99 was becoming dailykos.
I really like the (design) shift to the right. A lot.
Hi Everyone :)
JtC has an essay up asking us for feedback on which side we prefer for the side bar.
