2 Million Net Neutrality Public Comments Faked

It seems there is foul play afoot in the Net Neutrality battle.

The FCC opened the repeal of Net Neutrality to public comment earlier this year. But it seems out of 23 million comments submitted, at least 2 million of them were faked. Some used the names and addresses of dead people. Some of live people, but changed their addresses. Some of the names were linked to computer data breaches and stolen identities, although the exact breaches were unclear.

ArsTechnica Story

New York's State Attorney General's office has set up a web page where you can search for your name (or loved one's names--living or deceased) and see if there are comments associated with them. If there is evidence of fraud, you can contact that office if you wish:

NY Attorney General Fake Name and Comment Search

It is not clear to me whether that search includes all comments and names submitted to the FCC, or only those with New York addresses.

The final vote on the repeal of Net Neutrality is being held tomorrow, over the objections of 19 state attorneys general.

@Timmethy2.0 are, but they won't go out of business. They own the pipe and to use that pipe you WILL pay them what they demand for use of it, period. They're slathering at the bit waiting for this to happen and really, they don't give a shit what the public thinks of them.

Nowhere in your post did I find Russians hiding under my bed. Hell, I even moved the dust bunnies to see.
Well done.

@Pricknick

There are Russians hiding under their beds everywhere there. They are blaming Russian bots for the false comments on the FCC website. Putin doesn't want us to have good internet connections for some reason. How sad it is to be so delusional about this Russian propaganda crap that they blame everything they don't like on Russia.
Someone said that Obama was the one who appointed Pai and whoboy did they get hammered for it.

"You are one of those who always have to blame Obama for....." and it went downhill from there.

I don't understand why people there can't accept any criticism of him.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

The first black president. Mattered not.
He was change. He lied.
He was a figurehead in a nation of Hope. Nope.
He was just another useful fool for capitalism and democracy.

Then, as now, the threat was not just commercial, but political. During the 1876 presidential election, which formally ended Reconstruction, the militantly pro-Republican Western Union telegraph monopoly colluded with the Associated Press to throw a close contest to the Republican candidate, Rutherford Hayes, leading Democrats to begin calling the AP the “Hayessociated Press”.

In response, Americans put in place public rules to neutralize the power of these platforms. In the 1930s, for instance, Congress enacted federal legislation to stop AT&T from abusing its monopoly position in telecommunications. This legislative framework worked beautifully.

With this in mind, is there a chance that rolling back net neutrality by a 3-2 vote goes against the legislation that congress put in place?
