Roy Moore lost to Doug Jones

The fact that the Republican Party supported him in the first place is a stain on it and that so many people voted for him even knowing that he was a sexual predator is disgusting and disappointing.
The Alabama governor said that she believes the women who made the accusations, but said that Moore had other values that are good for the Republican Party. Eew...

I didn't expect it, but that dude is such a fucking asshole that I can't help but be happy about it. I was reading earlier and saw a video of his spokesperson (I was trained well, who gets it?) who said that Moore still believes homosexuality should be illegal. Because of the bible you know.
That kind of thinking in this day and age is extreme, like Saudi Arabia extreme and this society is rejecting it. That's a good reason why Pence won't be able to flout his God complex when Trump is taken down, which I'm betting $20. he will. Anyone? Loser donates to C99.

as well as same sex marriage. He was kicked off his judgeship for his refusal to accept it. IIRC, he gave a child to the father who had some very bad habits because mom was a lesbian. The other thing he got in trouble for was when he refused to remove the 10 Commandments tablet from the court house.
He thinks the time that best time for family values was during the slavery years. Sorry, the details escape me.
His wife said that one of their lawyers is a Jew. Not sure of the context for why she said that. She met Moore when she was 15 and he was 30. I'm pretty sure that they didn't meat each other at the mall in their hometown because that mall had banned him for preying on teenage girls. Eew. Again..

Here's his spokesman after the election was over. The New Testament doesn't say anything about it, just that Leviticus dweep, but he said a lot of other things that people blow off because if they did most of the things, they would be charged for a crime. "Kill every child that speaks back to their parents." Someone should ask Moore about that. Smile

I'll think about taking you up on your bet. Trump isn't going to be booted until the republicans get everything they want passed.

is when he said that "there is hanky panky happening in congress" referring to the men who have sexually harassed women is that those men are married to women. And many people who have affairs consider themselves Christians.

Another thing that people who are creeped out by tah gays, think that gay men abuse children when over 95% of sexual abuse of children is done by the male family members.

“That's what we have to do, wait on god and let this process play out," Moore said. "Votes are still coming in and we are looking at that.”

What happens if gawd decides that he should lose? Wouldn't it have been better to tell him that He didn't want him to win before he spent all that money? The timing seems to be a little late Smile
Reminds me of when people say that gawd protected their homes after a catastrophe struck. I wish that someone would ask them if this means that gawd was angry with the people whose houses were leveled. Or if they actually believe that gawd has a favorite team.

For the first time in over a year the Huffpo seems to have returned from wherever it went and has started covering the news again.

A visibly shaken, rambling Roy Moore told a venue full of his supporters that he’d “wait on God” for direction, minutes after he and his holier-than-thou Senate campaign collapsed in a devastating loss to a Democrat in Alabama.

They are eating their own. Plus there is another thread about how Bannon is person non grata in Alabama.

But if God did take the wheel Tuesday night, she was already on Interstate 65, hightailing it to Birmingham to kick it with election winner Doug Jones.

Moore gave a short, stuttering speech before he left on Tuesday ― an uncomfortable bookend to an awkward 24 hours. The night before, his wife Kayla bragged that the couple weren’t anti-Semitic because “one of our attorneys is a Jew.” Then, one of Moore’s old war buddies said the pals accidentally stumbled into a brothel together that was full of “very young” women.

On Tuesday morning in Gallant, Moore and his horse Sassy were effectively chased out of his own polling center by a throng of reporters desperate for quotes about a possible ethics violation should he win.

“There’s blood in the water for Mitch McConnell, it leads back to him. This room is gonna be walking out with a vengeance. We know who’s responsible,” said Chanel Rion, the 27-year-old fiancee of Missouri Senate candidate Courtland Sykes.

Sykes himself was even more fire-and-brimstone, worried that establishment Republicans ― not Democrats ― were winning the war against “MAGA candidates,” a shorthand for President Donald Trump’s “make America great again” campaign slogan

I'll send $20 to JtC if T-rump goes down before the end of his first term. If he makes 4 years, you send JtC $20. In the meantime it might be a good idea for us all to reach in our pockets and send JtC a little something before the end of the year as thanks for keeping the lights on and our little home in order.

I'm feeling pretty good this AM. I won $20 on yesterday's election already. (I also won $20 betting the $hill would lose), and I would be thrilled to have JtC profit off of T-rump in any way (from me or you - so it's win win).

Trump Dismisses Accusers As Women

In response to the 15 individuals who have come forward alleging sexual misconduct by the president, Donald Trump reportedly dismissed his accusers Tuesday as women. “Anyone can see that these disgraceful and false allegations are clearly coming from total, utter women,” said Trump, adding that those claiming he groped, fondled, and forcibly kissed them “absolutely know that they’re female” and that “everyone else knows they are, too.”

But what I do not see much of is people asking the question, "How the fuck is this shit going on all over the place and nobody is saying anything about it?"

"Use power to exploit others" - that's the capitalists' mantra, that's the modern mindset. Economic abuse, sexual abuse, they go hand in hand. Capitalists are sadistic through their extreme narcissism; sexual predators are sadistic through their extreme narcissism. To question the existence of sexual abuse is to question the existence of capitalism.

People ask why a billionaire still wants more: because it's not about money, it's about feeling powerful, (derived from a sadistic pleasure at forcing others to submit.)

Sexual abuse and rape isn't about sex, it's about feeling powerful, (derived from a sadistic pleasure at forcing others to submit.)

Hmm, I just looked up sublimating - "divert or modify (an instinctual impulse) into a culturally higher or socially more acceptable activity." So diverting to unwanted capitalist exploitation is a socially acceptable activity, while diverting to unwanted sexual exploitation is not a socially acceptable activity ... (While me, a 'Marxist', feel both are bad. So I'm always confused while dealing with reality and/or society.)

I'm sure McConnell and Ryan want nothing more than for Moore to just go away but he's not going to. He refused to concede tonight and will keep himself in the news as long as possible trying to force a recount.

Yes, Jones is another weak centrist who will be a disappointment to most of us here but I'm still very happy to see Trump and Bannon lose.

As a side note, remember how Obama insisted that Scott Brown be seated immediately (before Obamacare was finalized) and Reid did it? I'm pretty sure we can count on Trump/McConnell NOT returning the favor. No way in hell Jones gets seated before the tax bill passes. That doesn't give me any comfort though because I'm pretty sure that enough democrats would vote for it. Democrats had options to stop the vote that night after they got less than an hour to read it, but of course they wanted it passed.

As others have stated, the only reason why I'm happy for this is because of who Moore is and his ideas. This won't have any effect on helping mainstream Americans because Jones is a centrist democrat and will vote the party line.

Wasn't Brown a republican? If yes, I'm not surprised that Obama and Reid did that. They needed another team member for the Washington Generals because they were playing the Harlem Globetrotters that night. sigh

The Dems now have a realistic chance of taking the Senate (realistic enough that I now expect them to take it). They didn't really have a prayer otherwise because they would have needed to flip 3 states, and there were only 2 from 2012 within a sensible margin of 15% (AZ and NV). With Trump dragging R's down, Dems now have no excuse to not take the Senate back.

exhausted due to travel, but wanted to put in my two cents about the election (since we're down there part-time).

IMO, the biggest takeaway from this election is that it indicates that DT is absolutely 'toast.' Heck, after tonight, I'm not sure that Dems will have to put much effort into impeachment proceedings. This is especially true since DT chose to interject himself into the race in the last week, or so.

BTW, Jones is pretty much a fiscal hawk/business friendly conservative Dem; moderate to liberal on a couple of social issues. (After Luther Strange was defeated in the Repub Primary, it was Jones that the Alabama business community threw their support behind.)

But, hey--gotta give the Guy credit, where credit is due. Never thought I'd ever see a pro-abortion, or pro-choice candidate win a Senate race in the so-called 'Heart of Dixie.'

Regarding the speculation about Dems impeaching DT--the only thing that concerns me about that is that Repubs, meaning Ryan and McConnell, 'might' use the threat of those proceedings as leverage against DT, so that he'll be willing to sign off on major entitlement reform/cuts (which Ryan has been dreaming about for a couple of decades), in exchange for Republicans standing by him during impeachment proceedings and/or calls for his resignation.

Plus, I worry that Pence may be more dangerous--he definitely knows the ropes, and his fiscal conservatism is much more in sync with the Dem Party Leadership's agenda/ideology. As far as I can tell, DT doesn't actually have an ideology--he's purely transactional.

Which is why I'm worried that he'd be willing 'to deal,' to save his neck.

I'm too weary to try to find it this evening, but I saw a blurb that CMS issued - they are going to allow/encourage states to require that ABAWDs (able-bodied adults without dependents) meet a work requirement in order to enroll in Medicaid. And, from what I've read, I fear that Tom Price's proposed replacement makes him look like a piker!

One good thing--it's not likely that Repubs can cut Social Security as part of any reconciliation bill, since it's disallowed by the Byrd Rules. (When we get back, I'll try to post a copy of 'the rules' at EB.)

Have a good one!

Mollie

@janis b this was meant as a reply to molly, not janice. Sorry molly.

But, hey--gotta give the Guy credit, where credit is due. Never thought I'd ever see a pro-abortion, or pro-choice candidate win a Senate race in the so-called 'Heart of Dixie.'

I'm thinking that maybe he won in spite of his pro life views because more people stayed home or only voted for Jones because they didn't want Moore to win. This was the first time in a long time that a democrat even ran in there. A commentator on another site said that democrats usually don't even bother to have someone run there. I've said this before that often times republicans run unopposed.

So Jones is another identity politician? This isn't surprising, is it? I think you're right that republicans aren't going to cut social security in addition to the tax bill, but after they cut taxes by $1.5 f*cking trillion, of course they are going to say that they need to cut social programs because there isn't any money. Hatch said that same thing to Sherrod Brown in regards to CHIP. Brown told him that if he didn't cut rich people's taxes, there would be enough money to fund it. This isn't brain surgery:)

The Byrd rule is that no legislation can add more than $1.5 trillion to the deficit, correct? I've seen some people say that this is going to be over the amount, but the republicans won't care about it and will pass it anyway. Of course the democrats aren't going to raise a stink if it does. This is a done deal. Both parties are just as corrupt. Damn them!

As for Pence. I'm thinking that he has been telling the Donald what things he should be doing.. and not just Pence, but anyone who wants their pet projects passed. Bishop and Hatch have been trying to get Bears Ears reduced since it was created. Bishop especially has been planning for oil and coal companies to get their hands on the area. The Grand Staircase has huge coal deposits in one of the most incredible areas.

You two seem to travel a lot.

partly because some evangelicals were so bummed out, they stayed at home. Also, several national Dem lawmakers with 'star power'--including Cory Booker and Patrick Deval--helped increase the AA turnout. And it worked.

Alabama native and AA athlete, Charles Barkley, a long time Republican, campaigned pretty heavily for Doug Jones. Especially, at Auburn--a major state university. (He's a former AU star athlete.)

I remembered him from Fox News as a conservative commentator. (I didn't realize until the other day, that he was an Auburn alum.) I did a quick 'Google,' and found at that during O's term, Barkley left the Republican Party. That was pretty encouraging--until I read the passage below at Wikipedia,

In August 2015, Barkley announced support for John Kasich in the 2016 presidential election.[99][100]

Barkley has supported Doug Jones in the 2017 United States Senate special election in Alabama.[101]

Nea

Kasich is toxic, IMO. He's an ultra-fiscal hawk, and destroyer of social programs as both a former Chairman of the House Budget Committee, and as Ohio's Governor.

If we aren't careful, John Kasich could be the next US President. (I fear.) He is adored by Establishment fiscal hawks/austerians in both Parties.

This day, Monday December 11, attorney John Brakey won a court order – in Montgomery, Alabama no less – requiring every county to keep copies of their ballots after the vote tomorrow.

Besides we can have fun joking about T-rumps fall from power...

Alabama ain't as bad as I feared...

It does look as though the margin of win is too great for shenanigans, but I remember Don Siegelman (and you should too) - went to bed thinking he'd won, woke up to find he'd lost, and was railroaded into jail.

There is no justice. There can be no peace.

...currently it is 2%. I've lived in Alabama for 50 plus years and nothing can surprise me in Alabama politics. The election is supposed to be certified by this time next week (12/19/17). However, I'm not so naive that I think it is a sure thing, but I do think it is likely Jones will be installed as Alabama's new senator.

tells you all you need to know about the dumb fucks who apparently make up close to half the people in Alabama.

I was speechless after seeing this one.

@Citizen Of Earth These are the same people you can bet rail against Muslims like there's no get out.
As for muslims, ya, same thing, they're cult members too.
I've changed my views on religion just a bit since I went to church a couple years in my twenties.
It's very hard to reason with people like this. It's like partisan democrats.

Of course, 70% of the US is Christian. Not all are such Extreme Whackjobs as these focus group people, but they are all going to apply some level of Religious Fantasy to express how our society should function. They justify their hate for anyone who is not like them but thinking their gawd doesn't allow the difference. And they are so easily manipulated by these a-hole politicians.

Here is the breakdown of Religions in the US.

PS I was raised catholic but am now a closet atheist -- at least with my family members.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

Or the 2nd to last kid picked for dodgeball.
It's a reason to breath a sigh of relief. That is all.

On a related note:

The GOP has gone complete bath salts and Vietnamese Snake Wine-bender crazy.

While one can respect on a Machiavellian level the Republicans blatant hypocrisy on denying Obama his rightful pick for the Supreme Court, when the party leadership that spent months howling about the insanity, cruelty, and lack of moral character of Donald Trump began its final slide into moral bankruptcy in their pursuit of tax cuts for their donors, one simply couldn’t find the desire to respect something so depraved. Republicans began to resemble less the party of small government and family values, but the party of craven sidekicks to the type of villains who would toss them out the door of the zeppelin as they cried into the winds, “But, I’ve been loooyyyyaaaallllll!”

Even then one could muster a basic level of adversarial respect, like the kind an American soldier could muster for a defeated German officer at the end of WWII. Sure, they were monsters and evil, but damn they marched well and still had self-respect, so you gotta give them that you know? However the moment of pure cravenness finally came at the hands of a bad Faulkner villain.

When it came apparent that the Republicans needed Roy Moore, the pedophile (allegedly!) and adulterous former judge with a penchant for lies and mall cookies, to pass their tax plans and gut the social safety net, their denunciations not only disappeared, but turned to outright endorsement.

Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.

Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.

As for Jones, am I right in thinking he will vote against cutting social programs and for more war in the ME?
