Cold Day In Hell Arriving? Collins Promised No Medicare Cuts
Real cold day when Republicans might save us.
Who cares, but #taxscam has dropped below News.Google front page. However many are still on the edge of their seats working for the damn thing to die.
Others are occupying offices and being arrested.

But but but Senator Collins was promised. If they don't deliver, will she, won't she?
A reminder, @SenatorCollins: A letter means NOTHING regarding whether medicare cuts will/wont happen as a result of the tax bill. Pls dont insult constituents' intelligence with this excuse. https://t.co/yHaXtixbaS

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) —Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine says she may change her vote on the GOP tax overhaul if her amendments are not included in the final measure.
She tells WABI-TV she won't make a final decision until she sees what comes out of a conference committee.
Collins joined the majority in a 51-49 vote, after her amendments on property tax and medical expense deductions were included. She says she also secured a promise from House and Senate leaders to remove the threat of a 4 percent cut to Medicare.

Apparently Republicans can still pass it without her, unless they have problems with others in the House or Senate changing their votes.

Freedom Caucus could kill the deal. Rubio, apparently. Other Senators could get cold feet.

But then, what would corpaDems do?
"You locked the door," says Sen. Bernie Sanders about why there is no bipartisan support for the tax reform bill. Republicans "made a political decision that they were going to do it alone, hoping they would get 50 votes." #TaxDebate https://t.co/g2NcpbPSpB pic.twitter.com/14gzLzfFx0

Heh.
“Today’s tax cuts have no bipartisan support. They have no intellectual grounding, no body of supporting evidence...They have no vision of the common good, except that Republican donors should get more money and Democratic donors should have less.” https://t.co/Ua5kZyHARi

The Republicans have a three-step plan: Transfer trillions from the middle class and poorest the wealthiest → Explode the deficit → Use the ballooning deficit to trigger cuts to critical programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

What next? If this travesty is not stopped, millions face premature death.
For 4 yrs, #PharmaBig10 jacked up drug prices for consumers, Medicaid & Medicare by 40% to 70%. #GOPTaxScam would reward these corps that rob customers and taxpayers with giant tax cuts! More from @4TaxFairness: https://t.co/Y7xGsc2OIt pic.twitter.com/8WpM8iLxFP

Good question, T O M!
At times I have found problems with all of t these, but I still give them a look see from time to time on a case by case basis.
At least once a week I sneak back over to see what Meteor Blades --a participant in the Evening Blues before the move to Caucus99-- has written .
Hell I learned scouring for breaking news during Hurricane Harvey(jb and I both have friends and relatives in the area) that I actually could still find legitimate news in Washington Post . Even the NYT paid to investigate the horrid pollution testing after the storm. Go figure.

Thanks for the link!
And I notice that as usual all explanations continue evading the fact that if wages had arisen with productivity so that everyone had been earning a living wage all along, there would have been much more paid in over recent decades...

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
This is a great point
but if they had raised pay so that it stayed funded, then they wouldn't be able to tell us that it doesn't have enough money to keep it working as it is and that's why they have to change it. Devious minds....
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
killing fields
An friend of mine died because she could no longer afford to pay for her insulin. The recent raises in the price of medicine is obscene. No wonder there is a new war against Cannabis, big Pharma does not want the competition, but refuse to make their drugs affordable and safe. With cuts in Medicare and Medicaid required by the GOP's tax fraud the deaths will continue.
Right. Sanders and Warren

When the Freedom Caucus wouldn't vote for the bill
so that it could move out of committee, 8 democrats voted with republicans and Pelosi and Schumer don't do anything to the members who constantly vote with them. Remember when Lieberman worked on McCain's campaign against Obama and he faced no consequences?
If enough republicans decide not to vote for it, will there be any consequences if the usual democrats do?
This bill is so immoral and they know that people are going to die because of it, but that doesn't matter to them. 44 million children rely on SNAP and republicans are trying to kick their parents off of it even if they work full time.
The good news is that the pharmaceutical companies are going to go broke when most of us are dead. They know that when they raise their prices for medications that people who can't afford them will die, but it's obvious that they just don't care. This is not only immoral, it's a crime against humanity.

Yes sd, nailed it as usual.

Collins has a habit
Susan Collins has a habit of voting against the R party when and if they don't need her vote, therein protecting her 'moderate' standing. She's trying to leverage a deal with McConnel and not getting much. Rockland, a small county seat town, had sixty-five people standing on the main street in the snow protesting her position on the tax bill today. The letters to the editor are viciously against her. Some unheard of 'committee' is funding Youtube ads touting how good the bill is for small businesses. Dems are on about the Russians and sex scandals. Bernie won this area.
bygorry
Excellent point, bygorry! Too many lawmakers
follow the Collins model of
Now, Collins has maintained that she got McConnell's assurances on both issues. However, my understanding is that he's not in a position to deliver on the waiver of the 4 percent cut to Medicare (due to Pay-Go), unless he can garner 8 Dem votes. (according to Bloomberg News)
We'll see.

We have an active contingent of political Bastards
…like Collins in both Parties:
The Bastards and the Dual Nationals in congress are the reason the People are not represented at the Federal level and why we have been at war for 17 years, with many more to come.
Another excellent point. Good to run into you, Pluto! ;-D NT

It isn't on people's radar here
Of course AL is as red as it gets and our congress creatures will support the corporate give away tax scam. I think the issue is corporate media not telling the story so most citizens (la,la,la) are unaware.
Under the cover of a shallow understanding of “balance,” corporate media have internalized the outlandish idea that it is “partisan,” and thus not “neutral,” to acknowledge the undeniably destructive effects of particular political policies.
