Anybody here a regular at Naked capitalism? I have a question.

I know bringing drama over here from a different site is discouraged. While I rarely comment on blogs I'll admit I contributed to the closing of the comments at NC when I got a little heated when Lambert said he ''doesn't know what anarchist believe but they are anything but collectivist''. At any rate the comments are back on. I apologized. While noting the IWW was a anarcho syndicalist org. Someone replied to my comment. When I replied back it went to moderation. I am now blocked from commenting. I was not trying to start a pie fight nor was I breaking any rules. Anybody have any idea why?

I'm not a regular on Naked Capitalism, but here's my take on this:

I got a little heated when Lambert said he ''doesn't know what anarchist believe but they are anything but collectivist''.

Frankly, from your reportage, you're not to blame here. You're dealing with someone who's saying "I don't know what they believe in, but here's what they believe in." One cannot have it both ways; one either does, or does not, know what "anarchists believe [in]".

Your correspondent Lambert would have a heart attack in a trice if I came on and described my own socio-political orientation, as I am an unabashed anarcho-socialist. I maintain that society and its natural resources can and should be operated for the benefit of everyone in that society; and that this can and should be done without making some of us bosses over the rest, "more equal than others". So that makes me the very thing Lambert states does not exist: an anarchist collectivist!

While noting the IWW was a anarcho syndicalist org. Someone replied to my comment. When I replied back it went to moderation. I am now blocked from commenting. I was not trying to start a pie fight nor was I breaking any rules. Anybody have any idea why?

It does appear that Naked Capitalism (NC) is being rather touchy about comments and commenters right now, for reasons unknown. Yours is not the first report we've had of this behavior from NC lately.

Here at c99, we maintain our "moderation" in a different manner. We maintain a culture wherein disagreements, and the discussions thereof, are fully welcome so long as we treat each other with respect and kindness as people. I can testify from personal experience, both old and new, that this is the case here. I've just been through the single most contentious discussion I've ever participated in here, yet we never lost respect for each other. Exasperated, certainly. And we expressed that exasperation freely -- but without ever departing from the respectful stance we believe in here on c99.

So my advice to you is: If this sounds like something you can participate in, why not do your discussing and commenting here? It does appear that you and your ideas are more welcome here than on NC.....

@thanatokephaloides @thanatokephaloides @thanatokephaloides just like on NC while I don't comment often I jump in from time to time, mostly on the topic of Syria. I no doubt crossed the line on NC a while back, but I have great respect of Lucy Parsons, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, Big Bill, Mother Jones and Emma Goldman so I got a little heated. I just find it bizarre that the commentariat over there are not familiar with that important part of the history of the left in the US. The next time I was pretty polite, got the boot. I'll be commenting over here more often for sure. I don't care if I never get to comment over there again. Like I said I hardly ever did anyway, but I hope they at the very least learn a bit of history regarding anarchism and the left in this country. They are missing out on a lot of great stories.

@Akze Lambert can be
how shall I say, 'a bit touchy' at times. And I wasn't there for the Charlottsville aftermath but I understand it turned heated -- full blown flame wars. So he was probably very upset at how the comments were going and just started whacking commenters for whatever. I wouldn't take it personally.

Certian topics set him off. Never use the term "Deep State" at NC. They don't acknowledge the "Deep State" by any definition (and there are many definitions). I learned that one the hard way. Wink

@Citizen Of Earth @Citizen Of Earth Odd it's kinda hard to ignore the contracts, the kickbacks, and the foreign policy group think. I'm sure they have no problem mentioning the Washington consensus, the deep state is simply the Washington consensus regarding geopolitics, powered by graft of course.

@Akze Absolutely

I consider congress a branch of the "Deep State". Everything is decided in smokey backrooms fill with cigar puffing corporate lobbyists and secret deals to scratch each other's butts.

They are a different deck of cards for sure. I don't often agree with the direction they deal the cards and I rarely comment.
I mostly use that site for prospective.

and I think the explanation given in the thread "we are reopening comments" should suffice. For those who struggle with how moderation does/should happen this is a great read. Yves and Lambert work their tails of for the NC site. Like how they moderate or not I think we need to respect their right to handle things as they see fit.

@wouldsman My question was why I was blocked. I read it. It didn't answer that question.

@Akze

the person that replied to your comment and their posse reported it to the moderators. You may not have broken any specific rules, but you riled somebody up and that's usually enough.

I got kicked off RedState for making fun of a diary about Cuba. I got kicked off TruthOut for calling someone a loser (that person had been swearing at me and calling me nasty names). I got kicked off Gateway Pundit for being a liberal and nearly kicked off DKos for being a conservative.

I take it as a matter of pride that my comments are powerful enough to get me kicked off.
