Bernie backers' attacks on Democrats infuriate the party
Prominent Democrats are increasingly riled by attacks from Bernie Sanders' supporters, whose demands for ideological purity are hurting the party ahead of the 2018 midterms and 2020 presidential election, they say.
But it’s not just the outside agitators that Democratic lawmakers, operatives, and activists are annoyed with: They’re tired of what they see as the senator’s hesitance to confront his own backers, either in public or through back channels.
Tensions boiled over recently when a handful of Sanders loyalists bashed freshman Sen. Kamala Harris — a rising star in the party and potential 2020 hopeful — as an establishment tool. Democrats were also rankled that other prominent Sanders allies said support for single-payer health care should be a litmus test for candidates.
In response, Democratic senators and outside groups have begun telling Sanders and friendly intermediaries that if he wants to be a leading figure for Democrats ahead of 2020’s presidential election, he needs to get his supporters in line — or at least publicly disavow their more incendiary statements.

Or the perhaps the owners of the two Corporate Party wings simply want to leave Americans an allowable 'choice' between two virtually identical-in-results groups of corporate/billionaire management to bleed the people and country dry, as they've pretty much done? It's not as though anyone except their owners actually determines policy enacted by either brand of 'political party'...

It's getting hard, but I still think
that Bernie is trying to time the coup de grace. The best time would be after the 2018 elections, when he could stand on a pile of bodies, victorious progressives behind him, holding him up before them, and say, "I warned you! But you would not give up your corruption. Well now it's time, you cannot claim that we are not electable, WE ARE THE ONLY ONES ELECTABLE! and you are dead."
Unfortunately it's looking like the Democrats are trying to force his hand with their demands to line up on their Bataan Death March.

The Democratic Party is not running against Republicans.
They're running against their own voters. Every 2 to 4 years a donkey and an elephant stand in the china shop with the donkey threatening 'Either you unwashed take the packing peanuts we give you....or else.' The elephant holds a plate, ready to drop it at any moment, should the unwashed not give in to the demands of the donkey. The plate is usually something like social security, medicare, bodily autonomy for women etc. And then, should the donkey actually win, they let the elephant break the plate while no one pays attention.
This kind of extortion happens everywhere and differs from state to state, district to district. Hell, in some cases the donkey rides the elephant rodeo style through the china shop no matter who wins, like here in Flawer-Duh. And sometimes, even the Libertarian hedgehog will hop on the elephant and join in the fun. Because nearly 40 years ago, Libertarians like the Kochs and their think tanks figured out it was easier to buy influence than to get elected.

I watched Sanders on Colbert
Bernie was trying to talk about issues, Colbert wanted to talk about Clinton's "pony" comments.
The reason Clinton lost: she thought a public option was a "pony". She thought $15 minimum wage was a "pony". That kept millions from voting for her. Obama was a smooth talker without much of a track record and convinced us that he didn't think progressive issues were "ponies". We were fooled. There's no way for Clinton with a lifetime of public baggage to hide her "ponyist" attitudes. Failure, even against the second worst candidate in American history, was inevitable. I'm only surprised that it was as close as it was.

are corporate-funded, devoutly imperialistic behemoths. Neither of them is capable, or even desirous of fundamental reform. Working in tandem, the two Parties have effectively divided and conquered the people, so as to rule them.
The rulers themselves? The very same corporate syndicates, banking cartels, and military industrialists who support and perpetuate the Republican Party, also support and perpetuate the Democratic Party. Together they form what Kevin Shipp has called the "Shadow Government". It is a vastly wealthy and powerful force, and it is something any "New Party" would perforce need to deal with. I don't see 'why' the Dem Leadership would be riled at Bernie
since (at this point in time) he doesn't appear to be bucking their agenda. If anything, he could be helping them out by proposing a non-MFA 'public option' bill--purposely, or not.
I believe that I've already posted about his comments to a WaPo reporter that MFA would not be a 'litmus test.' He made that, and a couple other comments, indicating that he plans to continue working with conservadems who oppose his upcoming bill. At any rate, I'll repost the piece when he introduces his bill. My 'guess' is that it might be delayed until the bipartisan ACA bill is either voted on, or signed into law. From what I'm reading, that will likely happen within the next couple of weeks.
BTW, I tend to agree with those folks who say that some Dem Party donors, and corporatist-conservative activists are worked up about his role in the Party.
OTOH, remember that Bernie 'is' Leadership. He's the Chair of the Senate Outreach Committee. On the issue of his public option proposal (incorrectly labeled MFA), he is doing the same thing that he did when he ran against FSC--he's declaring that he will not buck Leadership on this issue.
And, Warren, since 2014, has been in a 'special' Dem Party Leadership post--'Strategic Policy Adviser to the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.' Which means,
Both positions were created in November, following a Dem Party shellacking in 2014 and 2016.
A couple months ago, I posted a blurb at EB in which Schumer told Tom Perez that his reforms were fine with him--just so they pleased Bernie and Ellison. Here it is,
In what way does that sound like an adversarial statement?
I honestly believe that a number of recent articles--which appear to be designed to pump up the idea that there is a lot of friction between the Dem Leadership and Bernie and/or Warren--are balderdash, or 'Kabuki.'
Remember, it was quite a long time before it was revealed that Warren was actually the 'pick' of the Reid, Schumer, and Murray to run for the Massachusetts Senate seat--based upon DCCC internal polling. Which was because the Dem Leadership was clever enough to present another (false) face to the progressive Base--in effect, creating the situation in which activists 'thinking' that they were going against the Dem Establishment, were actually fulfilling Leadership's goal of getting Warren elected. Talk about a textbook case of manipulation--whew!

Otherwise, you're 100% right. He's pretty much a company man and the scapegoating is just bizarre.
Idolizing a politician is like believing the stripper really likes you.
That's an excellent point, Dr JC. I don't know,
but I'm 'guessing' that the handing over [to the DNC] of Bernie's much sought-after email list would eventually be made public, or noted by political reporters; and, that it would probably amount to political suicide. I would think that this would apply whether the press caught wind of it, and wrote about it, or, whether his current and past supporters en masse just figured it out, because they suddenly got inundated with more, and new solicitations for donations, etc.
I've always figured that Schumer's comments about pleasing Bernie and Ellison may be an indication that Schumer is hoping, and aiming to shape a DNC platform/agenda which allows Bernie and Ellison to greatly help with DNC fundraising. (since the DNC and Dem Party Leadership have probably ruled out 'demanding' his campaign list)
As you point out, it's very likely that there are many Dem Party shills, operatives, talking heads, apparatchiks, lawmakers, supporters, etc., who are still fuming over 'the list.'
In the end, though, can't imagine that Bernie would consider surrendering 'the list' to any organization, since it might risk angering even his most loyal and ardent supporters.
Also, I'm of the opinion that the Dem Leadership realizes this, and that they recognize that he is far more valuable to them if he continues to hold a great deal of influence with progressive activists, than if his support from this cohort--progressive Dems and Independents--collapses.
Plus, folks may recall that he and Schumer are from the same Brooklyn neighborhood, and reportedly get along well. They graduated from the same high school--James Madison High.
Lastly, regarding the recent spate of articles about how angry some Dems are at Bernie, there can be a tangible benefit to ginning up dissension, in that getting folks' emotions all 'juiced up,' can sometimes help with fundraising efforts.

@Unabashed Liberal
The corporate Dem propaganda value of allowing Bernie previously denied corporate media time to reach those restricted to that medium and (even a created) party status is outweighed by the way that Bernie shows the corporate Dems up by contrast and by keeping the notion of government as a publicly funded public service alive in the public mind - yet outright dropping him rather than simply trying to discredit him and the concepts he finally has the opportunity to promote on monopolized US stations would create a public fuss they'd prefer to avoid. So the Dem party is caught between a rock and a hard place, as a tool they sought to use instead uses them, if within strict limits, in order to retain this awareness-raising (edit: access to the internet-deprived).
If Bernie was still on a corporate media black-out, who would now be discussing on this universally available medium such things as health care for all and a living wage?
Change must be created by the people and the combined strategies of working both from within and without The Swamp greatly increase the chances of success and survival for us all.

Hi, Ellen! Guess my takeaway is somewhat
different from yours, although I more often than not agree with your comments.
You know, I never observed a media 'blackout' regarding Bernie, or his candidacy. As a matter of fact, during the campaign, I often posted excerpts from articles about him/his campaign from MSM news outlets/reporters, such as The New York Times, with their political reporter Jeff Zeleny--now with CNN, with John Harwood of CNBC, and others. Though Harwood is a political and business/finance reporter, his various interviews with Bernie were evenhanded and fair. IIRC, one interview was over a meal in a D.C. bistro.
And, as far as the Sunday political programs went--I can't think of any candidate who was interviewed more than Bernie--with the exception of DT. But, DT's interviews occurred earlier in the campaign season--from the time he announced in June 2015, until March of 2016. Then, after Mitt Romney's speech/public excoriation of him in March of 2016, he quit appearing on the Sunday programs. I suppose he came to view most of the shows as hostile territory, with the possible exception of a couple of interviews with Chris Wallace [on Fox News Sunday]. Of course, FSC almost never appeared on the Sunday programs. As far as I know, it was of her own volition that she practically boycotted them.
Bernie has been, and still is a regular on both Cable News programs, and on C-Span, especially on Newsmakers.
It wasn't that long ago that I posted what Bernie was saying [from transcripts] about his upcoming single-payer/public option bill from 3 appearances in one week--on CNN, alone.
To your second point, I wasn't clear on what you were saying about Dems 'dropping him.' Since Schumer appointed Bernie to serve in a Dem Party Leadership position immediately after the 2016 shellacking (as Senate Outreach Chair), I always figured that Bernie would continue to be maintain a high level of visibility, regarding both the number of media appearances he makes, and/or interviews that he gives. And, so far, that seems to be the case.
To be clear, I don't object to anyone espousing 'leftist' policies, or agendas. I applaud that.
I do worry, however, that many folks who are on the periphery of politics--which doesn't pertain to folks in our community--may wrongly conflate Bernie's beliefs with those of the corporatist members of the Dem Party Leadership, or of corporatist Dem lawmakers. After all, when Bernie speaks now, he automatically speaks as a member of the Dem Leadership--which was not the case until last November.
Frankly, I wish he'd leave the Leadership and the Party. But, that's just me.
Hey, have a good one!

Nobody's saying that there was absolutely no coverage. It was, however, quite sparse, and from about February on, focused almost entirely on the question: "When you lose, are you going to support Hillary?"
This is from 2015:
Even so, the numbers get even more jaw-droppingly uneven when you look at individual candidates. Donald Trump (of course) leads the pack in coverage of his campaign, clocking in at an impressive 145 minutes. Hillary Clinton has gotten 82 minutes of campaign coverage, and an additional 83 minutes devoted to the email scandal. Jeb Bush, who is currently polling in fifth place in the Republican race with less than 10 percent in the polls, has received 43 minutes of coverage. The Bernie Sanders campaign has received a grand total of eight minutes of coverage — one-fifth of Bush’s time, or one-tenth of Clinton’s time (one-twentieth, if you count the scandal coverage).

Then there's this. I will quote a bit of it, but the whole
article is worth reading. Originally from billmoyers.com:
As the presumed loser from the outset, Sanders didn’t get negative coverage so much as he got negligible coverage. An analysis by the TV News Archive of cable television coverage since January 2015 provides graphs of Clinton’s and Sanders’ mentions that look alike, save for one thing: Clinton was getting vastly more coverage than Sanders. How much more? On CNN, Clinton got more than 70,000 of the Democratic-candidate mentions, while Sanders got just under 42,000. On MSNBC, Clinton got more than 93,000 mentions to Sanders’ roughly 51,000. On Fox News, she got more than 71,000 mentions to his more than 28,000. The numbers are similar on the Lexis-Nexis database of newspapers. In the past 30 days, Clinton received 2,591 mentions, Sanders only 922. By comparison, Trump got 5,568.

Hi, CStMS! Looks like our 'metrics'
are a bit different.
Seriously, I found Gabler's piece, and read it. He's citing 'mentions.' I'll gladly defer to him on that--I wouldn't have a clue about that statistic. I was referencing the amount of 'face time,' or interviews that Bernie had on the channels that I observed--mostly, CNN, C-Span, XM Radio Channels such as NPR, POTUS, etc. And, as I mentioned, we regularly listen to the rebroadcasts of '5' Sunday political shows, which are a mix of broadcast and cable news networks.
I'd say that you could probably count on one hand, how many times in two years that FSC appeared on the Sunday political shows, which could be one reason Bernie got as much face time as he did--he was willing to show up! Toward the end, Podesta would once in a while appear as a stand-in for her. We all know how 'cautious' and contrived she is--guess she thought that she'd blow her so-called lead.
Also, I noticed that a lot of the Gabler's piece was about the tenor of the coverage. Mostly, I agree with his assessment. As I recall, initially, Bernie's press was relatively favorable, considering that FSC was the 'coronated one'--probably because they thought he was not a real threat. Granted, the MSM 'turned' when his popularity grew stupendously, especially toward the end of his run.
On both the POTUS and C-Span Channels that I listened to on XM Radio, Bernie was treated equally (in comparison to FSC and DT) regarding the airing of his campaign speeched/rallies, etc.
I'm thinking that one's notion of the media coverage may depend upon how a person received their news. IOW, perhaps the coverage on satellite radio was simply more 'fair and balanced.'
Hey, hope you made out well during the Hurricane/tropical storm. Haven't seen cybrestrike log back in, so I hope he made it through the weather, 'okay,' along with all the other C99P Floridians.

@Unabashed Liberal Oh, I agree
That's my read, as a former campaign manager.
But the mentions were supposed to make up for that. The idea is to keep her very much in everybody's mind, hopefully as an inevitable eventuality, without having her actually present to open her mouth and make people hate her.

@Unabashed Liberal Well, it
Managing to be a heat-sink AND make people passionately hate you is a hell of an achievement.

Just to clarify,
although I'm pretty sure that my intent was obvious, when I said
I'm saying that I want Bernie to leave the corporatist Dem Party, and run as an Independent, since we know that he could raise the financing. I'm not even sure that he'd have to attach himself formally to a party.
If I'm not mistaken, the current Governor of Alaska ran as an Independent, and won. (He was formerly a Republican.)

Ah! The List.
I've seen s lot of nasty cracks, bitching, and threats over The List. In fact, Sanders continuing to withholding it is one of the few principled acts upon which he has stood his ground. And it's really enraged the DNC and the Clinton crew.
If he gave The List to the DNC, his career would be over. That would be an unforgivable betrayal and he knows it. I think he's also (in regard to The List) not giving it to them out of a personal regard for his donor's privacy. The List has been the one issue for which he deserves credit for 'standing his ground'.

@Unabashed Liberal As for Warren, how could
Maybe Trump could call her "Pocahontas" online a few more times.

I was not excited when I heard she was running for senate.
I figured it would compromise her, and it has.

SBC, those words
are an acknowledgment that his campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, wasn't a threat to the Dem Party Establishment.
If anything, he's very much a political insider. And, I'd have to agree that Weaver probably wouldn't have made 'disparaging remarks' about the DNC, or about Establishment Democrats--period.
For instance, I recall Weaver (on Bloomberg TV) making glowing comments about then-Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Kaine--adding that Kaine was his Senator, and a good one.
And, I mean during the primary season. That struck me as very odd.

Bernie the Sheepdog turned Scapegoat
So, either the Bern is "With us" or "Again' us", as George W. has said re. the Iraq War. We still don't know and it's funny how such intelligent, well-informed, and kind-hearted people here keep hoping for the "With us" Bernie. Still. Clearly the leadership exists (Gabbard/Turner/Stein/DeMauro) to independently run for prez in 2020, but no clear actions afoot yet to make this happen. All this time is wasted on Hillary's "Blame All But ME" tour (and buy MY ghostwritten book while paying to see ME) when we could be forming a viable Third Party, and fundraising for it to get on state ballots down the road. The time is NOW, not after the 2018 elections when the Dems finally acknowledge the smoldering ruin they've become.

Well he's playing for the other team now
so how popular he is is a rather moot point. There are righties who see him as the most 'honest' guy in government but they aren't going to vote for him.
He's a DNC toady.
