Apologies for the Non-Serious Post

I have never posted anything, and this is clearly the wrong way to begin. But with all the fireworks of debates, caucuses, primaries, and punditry, there is also the matter of the next step once the dust is settled. Thinking back to my childhood, I was just old enough to understand that my president, his protestations notwithstanding, was a crook. Politics has always been about lesser evils.

But I have a kindergartner. We went to see Bernie in early July and he caught the Bern, possibly because the SRO crowd made the room unbearably hot. But what he knows is thst we have a very good man who cares about making the country better for all of us. Sure, he thinks Mommy and Daddy caucused for Bernie Sandwiches. More important, he knows that politics is a place where the ideal and the real can coexist, something I had to wait decades to see.

We still wait to see what will shake out in the end. But I have to think that Bernie Sandwiches is helping inspire not just young adults but genuine youngsters to work within and beyond the system to take on bullies and make things right.

But it's gotta have HorseRadish, because freaking corporations have banned that condiment from their faux-deli counters!

I want it all, dammit! And I want it NOW!

which I think is all to the good.

No flags, and no keeping score. Just a nice idea of the general feel your comment produces.

Works for me!

(Hi, TracieLynn)

You know your words resonated with a number of Members, but you don't know exactly which ones. I like to think of it as a touch of "Community Warmth" or "Community Unity."

I was really happy to see that when I dropped in a year or so ago. I've long advocated for not attaching names to ratings in order to break the destructive cycle of allies, gangs, cliques, rivals, enemies that form so quickly in creative communities. At certain scales, approval or disapproval personification always devolves into button-pushing gamesmanhip rather than enriching the cohesiveness of the community, as a whole.

That being said, I do believe in positive reinforcement. Sometimes I just stop what I'm doing and take the time to simply tell someone directly how I enjoy their comments and value their points-of-view. Other times, I may use private messaging. Reprimands or guidance may come through private messaging, as well. It is an empathetic approach. (God knows, I've seen a few reprimands myself.) It is constructive. I don't know when public shaming and negative reinforcement became accepted social behaviors. Maybe it's an American thing.

Enough of that, It's really great to see you here.

I just figured I was missing something in not being able to figure out who had given the thumbs up to a comment. I have no problem with the way it is set up, though.

It's great to be here with so many of the names I've grown to know and love over the years. You are definitely included in that group.

a profound statement, and apologies for the wierd looking quote; just getting used to the way things work here Smile

Would that some on another site would be as wise.

There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.

He has really gotten into presidents this year. It gives me so much pleasure to talk with him about the man he knows as Rock Obama. As a middle aged guy, I am fully aware of the missed opportunities of the Obama presidency. However, in the grand scheme of things, with so much pushing against him, he has been the most dignified and thoughtful president we've had in ages. I truly believed that a presidency without a major crisis or ethical "lapse" was impossible.

That's one of the things that makes the next prez so important. Of course the GOP is a disaster (as dKos front pagers remind everyone in their most mindless posts). But Hillary is so beholden to so many constituencies beyond the general public that scandals will be inevitable. This should be plain and it embarrasses me that otherwise wise people cannot see it.

in some tubes, and there learned that Rock Obama is a sort of Marvel person, akin to The Hulk, who swells up and rips through his shirt, when people are Bad and Mean.
