OK, so Tom Perez won -- now what?
My first posting, so please be gentle, people.
Just sent the following missive to my congressional "representative" (a declared democrat in a "purple" state; although I suspect she supports demorat "leadership" on most issues). BTW, I was/am pretty unhappy about the outcome, in case you can't tell --
https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/tom-perez-elected-as-first-lati...
... demexit. Demorat (not a typo) "leadership" just demonstrated that they are fully committed to the same, old, tired, neolib/neocon, bought-off, identity-politics, losing "strategy" that they have been pursuing for the past 20 years or so. They will continue to lose, pretty much everywhere, for the forseeable future, although putting up a "good fight" with a "brave game face". It's kind of like the Washington Generals and the Harlem Globetrotters (a sham contest) -- usually a near thing, but you always knew who was going to win, no matter where the game was played.
Won't be caucusing with the demorats (not a typo) any more; and I suspect that most millennials will not either - the primary season (obvious cheating) & national election (more cheating; not quite so obvious) were a revealing experience for many of them. During the 60s, the dems "lost the South for a generation" (actually, probably forever -- good riddance to bad rubbish, in my personal opinion); but a least were striving for a noble cause, rather than simply trying to hold on to a modicum of power. The demorats (again, not a typo) just lost younger voters for at least a generation.
Please take me off of your broadcast email list; I am willing to associate with losers, on occasion, but only by choice --

Oh but hey,
Keith got put in charge of outreach. They lost a 1,000 seats and the WH to the moron, and we got crumbs. Fuck them. I voted for Jill in 2016. If I can live with Trump for 4 years, I can live with him for 8. We should have destroyed the Democrats in 2010 and 2014 when the stakes weren't so high.

What dkmitch wrote.
There was no reason for Perez to have been in this except that the third way people wanted him there instead of Ellison for the same reason they wanted Hillary and not Bernie.
With the democrats appointing Pelosi and Schumer and the DNC voting to take lobbyists money that shows that they don't have any intention to change the direction of the party.
I have seen too many comments deriding the people on the 'progressive left' and saying that we need to accept the party being centrist.
Fuck that, that's why they are bleeding voters and they don't give a rat's ass.
And yes, it's just like the Harlem globetrotters and the Washington generals.
Amy Goodman had an ex congress member on her show and he admitted that they take turns being in charge.
The republicans should have been dead after the Bush administration remember? In one election season they won back the house. In two, they won all 3 branches of government.

Thanks for letting me know what the purple
I read that the reason why Obama is staying in DC is so he can work with the Clintons to protect his legacy.
I need to find the article that asks what legacy is he protecting?
We know what he did and didn't do so I don't have to rehash it, but look at the power he left in Trump's hands.

Not sure the Demorats won't capitalize on resistance to Trump
One reason that I was asking about which directions to pursue now is that Trump's victory and boorishness have galvanized people into acting. Where I live that's being orchestrated by Democratic party operatives. They are co-opting grass roots activism to support their own sense that they 'wuz robbed!' It's tricky. For me, it's a little bit like the question of whether Dem Reps and Senators should completely resist -- or cooperate with Trump on legislation that could be good for the people. I'm concerned that if I support resistance against our Republican Representative that I support the Dems in re-asserting their tired neoliberal ideas. Yet those activities are the only games in town, because right now they are being positioned as broad-based resistance movements and serving as an outlet for a tremendously high level of public anger. Don't know if all locales are facing the same choices. Not sure that the Demorats will wither up and go away in the short-run. (And like some others on this board I was actually more concerned about Hillary being elected than I was about Trump.) But if popular uprisings get channeled into increased support for the Dems, it would be a real failure by those of us on the Left. So how to resist outside the Duopoly in a way that addresses the real needs of the 99% and without contributing to a resurgence for the Demorats?
Well, if you want a local alternative, start one
Correct but the two are not mutually exclusive
@MsDidi Yet those activities are
This is the point: taking up the oxygen.
So we need to figure out other ground from which we can act. It's tough, but I'd say head away from the individual and start a movement against both parties and against corruption. We should be rebelling against the system that gave us the choice Hillary vs Trump.
Or we could organize positively rather than negatively, but that would require more thought and effort.

Two interesting comments from KFS
Saban threatened to withhold his donations to the DNC if Ellison was put in charge of it.
Another comment from the thread of why was did the WH recruit Perez to run against Ellison?
https://theintercept.com/2017/02/24/key-question-about-dnc-race-why-did-...
I looked in at DK and anyone who isn't happy with Perez winning is getting slammed as usual. They just don't get it and won't listen to anyone's opinion on why it matters to many people that Ellison lost.

Demexit Will Now Accelerate
I left the Dems as a registered member back in 1980, but they have now lost any chance that I might support any future candidate supported by the DNC. I can see where many others who are also greatly disappointed by the clueless intransigence displayed by those DNC losers will decide enough is enough and leave as well. Just how much more evidence do we need to see that the Party refuses to change?

First post
Oh and don't worry about first posts. I fretted about my first topic here.
People here are pretty laid back for the most part. Some fun characters as well.
Hell we even have an alligator doctor. How many places on the net can say that?
Lets make it close so stupid Bernie supporters
will think they have a say in the Dem platform. How transparently disingenuous of the Democratic Party. Fuck the Democratic Party. Anyone still registered Democrat is a fool.

I wasn't too fond of Ellison after I found out he went down to
Florida with the rest of the DNC candidates (except Pete Buttigieg) and kissed Brock's ring at a to-do the day of the women's march.

IMO even if Ellison did win, it would just be another guy trying to sheepdog us back into the veal pen. I'm done with the Dim-o-crats anyway. But it's always interesting to see the many ways they try to woo us and then screw us.
P.S. LOVE your Groucho Marx quote. He's one of my idols (I'm old and can remember him very well). A lot of the things he said may seem funny but if you thought about them, they were really brilliant. Like Frank Zappa. I've been in love with Zappa since I was 17.

Nomiki Konst made a great point in a recent TYT video
She says that Obummer placed Perez on the ballot and he was being supported for DNC head by those of the consultocracy. You know those folks who made millions of dollars with their polling, stink tanks, focus groups and ad buys--well, actually it was $1.4 Billion, but why quibble? This is a good point. Many of these consultants are also DNC members. Anybody see a conflict of interest here?
