Presidential Derangement Syndrome

If left untreated this disease will come back twice as bad in eight years.

2003: BDS

A plague is abroad in the land.

Bush Derangement Syndrome: the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency -- nay -- the very existence of George W. Bush.

Now, I cannot testify to Howard Dean's sanity before this campaign, but five terms as governor by a man with no visible tics and no history of involuntary confinement is pretty good evidence of a normal mental status. When he avers, however, that ``the most interesting'' theory as to why the president is ``suppressing'' the 9/11 report is that Bush knew about 9/11 in advance, it's time to check on thorazine supplies.

When Rep. Cynthia McKinney first broached this idea before the 2002 primary election, it was considered so nutty it helped make her former Rep. McKinney. Today the Democratic presidential front-runner professes agnosticism as to whether the president of the United States was tipped off about 9/11 by the Saudis, and it goes unnoticed. The virus is spreading.

It is true that BDS has struck some pretty smart guys -- Bill Moyers ranting about a ``right-wing wrecking crew'' engaged in ``a deliberate, intentional destruction of the United States way of governing'' and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, whose recent book attacks the president so virulently that Krugman's British publisher saw fit to adorn the cover with images of Dick Cheney in a Hitler-like mustache and Bush stitched-up like Frankenstein. Nonetheless, some observers took that to be satire; others wrote off Moyers and Krugman as simple aberrations, the victims of too many years of neurologically hazardous punditry.

2013:ODS

As with any mental illness, Obama Derangement Syndrome’s treatment must begin with an accurate diagnosis. It is certainly possible that what passes for ODS may actually be nothing more complicated than food poisoning. Got ahold of some bad clams? It will pass. It could be severe constipation. Nothing an enema can’t clear up. But if you’ve ruled out the usual suspects, follow this handy checklist to determine if you are an ODS sufferer. Remember, admitting you have a problem is the first step toward lucidity and wellness.

You may have Obama Derangement Syndrome…

. . . if you believe he was a CIA operative fighting with the Afghan rebels and against the Soviets in the 1980s. Your case of ODS may be terminal if you believe this, and yet now believe Obama is, himself, a Marxist.
. . . if you suspect he had that great American patriot, Andrew Breitbart, murdered. Extra points if you are sure the Obamas have had as many people murdered as you believed the Clintons did. Still more bonus points if you think gay sex orgies were connected to his murder spree.
. . . if you are reasonably sure President Obama orchestrated Hurricane Sandy in order to improve his chances at the polls in 2012; planned and ordered either the Sandy Hook school massacre or Aurora Theater massacre to create a pretext for a giant “gun-grab”; and was behind the BP oil spill and/or the Massey Energy coal mine disaster in an effort to justify tighter regulation of business.
. . . if you believe the President used an executive order to hand over U.S. territory to Russia. [Or to the UN, or to anyone else.]
. . . if you have seen incontrovertible “proof” that Obama removed the American flag from Air Force One and replaced it with his campaign logo; has consistently refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance or salute the flag; seldom if ever wears an American flag lapel pin and steadfastly resists suggestions from staffers that he say “God bless America” at the end of his speeches.
. . . if you know that he was a member of the Black Panthers, the Weather Underground, the American Communist Party, the American Fascist/Third Way Movement, the Illuminati, the German-American Bund, the Campfire Girls of America and Friends of Ish Kabibble.
. . . if you believe President Obama has a “secret plan” to remove evangelical Christian young people from their homes and place them in FEMA or UN-run re-education camps.
. . . if you believe the birth certificate is a forgery, never existed in the first place or that it exists – but that it, upon careful examination, shows that Barack Obama was sired by a jackal.
. . . if you have seen “evidence” that he furnished the Oval Office with Islamic or Middle Eastern décor; that he has changed the name of the WH Christmas tree to the WH “Holiday” tree; that he wears jewelry with secret Koranic verses on it; or that he was sworn in on the Holy Koran and not the Bible.
. . . if you believe he had the October, 2012 jobs report altered.
. . . or if you believe President Obama is part lizard, the Antichrist or a former CIA operative who was teleported to Mars.

If any of these resonate with you as plausible, reasonable or outright true, seek help for ODS immediately. There is no shortage of treatment options. One might begin by cancelling subscriptions to Stormfront, Newsmax, Citizen Magazine, World Net Daily, Conservapedia and World Magazine. Additional recommendations include a Fox “News” fast, putting your “Left Behind” books in the recycle bin and avoiding those personalities who may function as enablers of ODS. Such individuals include Glenn Beck, James Dobson, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Sowell, Laura Ingraham, Texe Marrs, Hal Lindsey, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Allen West and Rick “Man on Dog” Santorum. (This is, of course, not an exhaustive list.)

2015: ODS

In case you hadn’t noticed, lately the Obama Derangement Syndrome on the right has been ramped up a few notches.

It all started when people like Rudy Giuliani said that President Obama didn’t really love America. Religious leaders on the right like Franklin Graham joined in by saying that this President only knows Islam and proceeded to mirror Sen. Joe McCarthy with his claims that this administration has been infiltrated by Muslims. Even Jeb Bush got in on the action by saying that President Obama is “the first president since World War II who does not believe that American power is a force for good” in the world.

All of that is why, by the time I got to the story earlier this week about Rep. Sessions (R-TX) accusing President Obama of being responsible for “murdering Americans all over our cities,” it was clear to me that Republicans have lost their ever-lovin’ minds.

Of course right wing radio, Faux News and tea partiers went there a long time ago. But one has to wonder why Republican leaders are ramping up the ODS.

2016:TDS

The country is in the throes of a major epidemic, with no known cure and some pretty scary symptoms. It's called Trump Derangement Syndrome, or TDS, and it’s rapidly spreading from the point of origin – the political class – to the population at large.

In the first stage of the disease, victims lose all sense of proportion. The president-elect’s every tweet provokes a firestorm, as if 140 characters were all it took to change the world.

Trump set up a single phone call with Taiwan’s president, and suddenly TDS patients were insisting that our “One China” policy was no more.
...
The mid-level stages of TDS have a profound effect on the victim’s vocabulary: Sufferers speak a distinctive language consisting solely of hyperbole. Politico recently ran a piece that noted Trump’s supposedly unprecedented decision to continue using his private security force, which provoked former independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin to tweet: “A predictable move for a kleptocratic authoritarian who wants to operate outside the bounds of law and basic ethical standards. Even more troubling, he may use the force's lack of government oversight & presidential veneer to carry-out extralegal acts of force.”
...
In the advanced stages of the disease, the afflicted lose touch with reality. Opinion is unmoored from fact. Life resembles a dark fairy tale in which the villain – Trump – is an amalgam of all the worst tyrants in history, past and present, while the heroes –Trump’s critics – are akin to the resistance fighters of World War II.
TDS victims routinely compare Trump to Hitler: Time magazine ran an opinion piece that asked “Just how similar is Donald Trump to Hitler?” The answer: “The comparison between Hitler and Trump is so poignant” because “both men represent their personal character as the antidote to all social and political problems.”
The other day, Tucker Carlson of Fox News interviewed TDS-riddled Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank). Carlson asked for evidence that Putin’s alleged machinations had any effect on the election. Unable to come up with a coherent answer, Schiff morphed into J. Edgar Hoover: “You're carrying water for the Kremlin,” he said, “you're going to have to move your show to ‘Russia Today.’”

"the best one evah!" and "can't we please get another term out?". Constitution be damned, or at least whatnum the amendment to limit after the tyranny of FDR. Or something. The same face of TDR, different tap dance.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

He woulda had to do it without my vote.
Fool me once shame on you.
Fool me twice never happened. But I voted for him.
Fool me THRICE!? NO FREAKING WAY BUBBA!

I've been crying in the wilderness for over a decade that if they won't start fighting for me, I'll stop voting for them.

I often ask publicly 'Will Dick Cheney ever die?'. Because I'm pretty sure he's the anti-Christ after all.
I posit that it is not outside the realm of the possible that somehow they've transplanted Cheney's brain into Obama.

President Obama keeps trying to make the Tea-GOP happy, even after eight years of that totally not working. Today he drastically cut the size of the newly-designated Bears Ears National Monument in southeastern Utah in the hope of reducing criticism from right-wing Utah politicians, who reacted with rage and threats. Nobody was surprised. Why does the President keep making these unilateral concessions?

the prez is doing whatever the puppet masters want and calling it a victory for compromise. Why do ordinary people fall for the by-partisan kabuki shell game over and over. It's an example of what gjohnsit dairy is about. Some kind of derangement about whoever is installed in the White House. He could care less about the Utah right-wing. Perhaps it's political cover for land grabs by the real owners of the place.

Why didn't he put on his comfy shoes and do something about the right wing out of hand fiefdom of Wisconsin? Why didn't he call off the corporate goon squads disguised as coppers at Standing Rock? Why did he cut deals with the healthcare for profit industries? Bush tax cut's. Tuesday kill list? How about that new Ministry of Truth/propaganda bill he and the Demorat's just passed? The Cat Food Commission? The patriotic torturers, so don't be sanctimonious. The list goes on and on.

Why do people believe this political theater of the absurd? Because he's a Demorat and the other side is conspiring against our leader. There are no 'victories for compromise' just complicit dirty rotten pols doing a lousy job of putting on a show. He's a thief and he knows it. How many times does it take before people stop falling for the old he was obstructed trick. He had to didn't he? He's a black man and he cannot rock the boat. He's playing 11th dimensional chess and all will be revealed someday.

... at what one journalist can do to make Assange look like a Trump-loving fan and a traitor to the Clinton side of the Democrats.

The Guardian’s Summary of Julian Assange’s Interview Went Viral and Was Completely False - by Glenn Greenwald at 8:41 am today

If even the Guardian can publish an article by their author "Ben Jacobs" like this one:

Julian Assange gives guarded praise of Trump and blasts Clinton in interview,

which Greenwald pulled apart and proved to be completely kabuki and faux, it's no wonder that " ordinary people fall for the by-partisan kabuki shell game over and over". The Guardian (as well as "Der Spiegel", imo) profited nicely through their cooperation with Wikileaks (and with that Assange). If their own journalists write then "opinion pieces" that distort so much the actual words spoken by Assange in an interview, it's no wonder people don't know anymore why their heads are spinning out of control. They do everything not to fall down. So they believe that what prevents them to believe in the darker clouds on the horizon.

To see how blatantly false is the Guardian’s claims, all one needs to do is compare the Guardian’s claims about what Assange said in the interview to the text of what he (Assange) actually said.

The fact that Assange sees possibility for exploiting the resulting instability for positive outcomes, along with being fearful about “change for the worse,” makes him exactly like pretty much every political and media organization that is opportunistically searching for ways to convert the Trumpian dark cloud into some silver lining.

And of course people look desperately for a silver lining and will grab anything that would convince them there might be one. Obama is not courageous enough to call kabuki arguments as faux news coverage. Unfortunately.

I really recommend to read Greenwalds article. He has journalistic integrity, imo.

Going back three (and soon to be four) Presidencies.

The Return of Clinton Derangement Syndrome

They spent the 1990s turning every gnat fart in the Clinton White House into a six-part inquiry, and at the end of it, Bill left office historically popular. They’ve spent the better part of the 2010s doing the same thing to Hillary, and though she is emphatically not historically popular, Republicans have, in the process, tended to humiliate themselves and abet Donald Trump—the one person politically incorrect enough to call her crooked and accuse her of playing the woman card, at last, at last.

What we witnessed Thursday was part of a pattern that goes back more than 20 years. A Clinton does something—in some cases innocuous, in this case worthy of criticism—and her political nemeses respond completely out of proportion. They’ve invested so heavily in the fantasy that Hillary’s one email or utterance away from complete self-destruction that they can’t bring themselves to accept anything less than the highest return. A sunk cost fallacy of power politics and partisan score-settling.

A telling difference between now and the is that in the 90's I seem to recall The New Republic HAVING CDS.
