Obama comes around, Romney right about Russia? Heh.

The hours are short until Mr. Obama is put out to pasture, legging it away from a legacy that is, shall we say, not the greatest. Some will miss him, some will idolize him, others will blame him for the next four years of potential horror and CHANGE, leaving behind his drone killing battalions at the disposal of DT.

The great Kabuki-ist and publicity suck will still most probably maybe be in the Corporate news, so no need to fear he will fade away like Bush has. No, on the contrary, I predict he will do everything possible to be on every talk show he can. My bet is that he is addicted to attention and will not 'go quietly into that good night.'

Mr. Obama can talk purty, no doubt about it, but what he DOES is key to seeing what he has accomplished. His legacy? Meh.

Some are clamoring for him to take some dramatic action against Russia.

The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming !!! Pfffttt

Seems any excuse will be pushed forward in attempt to distract and cover up the failure of the Democratic Party to choose a candidate who could win, the tragic losses at the state and local level while he was Leader of the Party. I predict that any excuse will be tried to deflect from his part of responsibility for Trump winning the election.

What's hilarious to me just now it that the US is the acknowledged world's leader in political meddling, as well as the 'poutrage' leader when someone else tries it here.

Remember during 2012 when Romney tried to make an issue of the Russians being a threat and Obama poo pooed it? Apparently he has come around to Romney's way of thinking on this.

That will be a major legacy of Obama’s 2,922-day presidency. No consequences. Solyndra. Fast and Furious. You can keep your doctor. And Clinton’s national security violations, among many.

Now the Washington Post, which still can’t believe Trump won, reports that the CIA has concluded Russia was actively trying to help the billionaire win. Because, clearly, without communist subversions Americans would never elect him on their own.

Maybe the Russians did do something. That’s not the issue.

Besides complaining publicly, has the Obama administration done something, anything, besides whine about being victimized by hackers? Maybe take responsibility and tighten security?

And why did alleged hacking only bother Obama after a Republican victory, not his own two?

In 2012, Obama mocked Mitt Romney for suggesting Russia was our top geopolitical foe. Now it’s expedient for the Democrat and minions to ensure the focus is on Moscow as foe. After all this time and those breaches, and only in his final meaningless month, does Obama order a report (which will be largely secret) allegedly to explore the allegedly Russian threats.

Because, see, that way the public discussion won’t be where it belongs: On how, after eight long years under Barack Obama the cybersecurity of America’s government and even the president’s own political party remain so pathetically vulnerable?

Again, no consequences.

Heh. I am more interesting in transparency that I am worried about hacking and phishing. I am more interested in peace than trumped up geopolitical enemy creation as cover for enriching the War Profiteers and Climate Serial Killers.

Probably...and here's some more

Craig Murray, the former UK ambassador to Uzbekistan, who is a close associate of Assange, called the CIA claims “bullshit”, adding: “They are absolutely making it up.”

“I know who leaked them,” Murray said. “I’ve met the person who leaked them, and they are certainly not Russian and it’s an insider. It’s a leak, not a hack; the two are different things.

“If what the CIA are saying is true, and the CIA’s statement refers to people who are known to be linked to the Russian state, they would have arrested someone if it was someone inside the United States.

“America has not been shy about arresting whistleblowers and it’s not been shy about extraditing hackers. They plainly have no knowledge whatsoever.”

In a non-nuclear world this is the equivalent of war. And those who want to ignore this horror are guilty of treason.

Almost every website I have looked at I rarely see anyone not believing that Russia hacked the DNC emails.
And that is all they are accusing them of doing, so how exactly as bad as 9/11 as an ex CIA leader wrote?

(didn't the USA apologize to Germany not too long ago for some blatant transgression?); enemies; corporations; domestic agency vs domestic agency, etc. The NYPD for decades maintained a "red squad" to spy on Americans engaged in constitutionally protected activities well outside their jurisdiction.

I agree with what you allude to: Why are Americans so prone to believe tax-funded liars and get worked up about the lies so that those in control have an excuse to commit crimes in the peoples' name?

The current discourse on this issue is plagued by partisan gibberish — there is a disturbing trend emerging that dictates that if you don’t believe Russia hacked the election or if you simply demand evidence for this tremendously significant allegation, you must be a Trump apologist or a Soviet agent.

The reality, however, is that Trump’s reference to the Iraq War and the debacle over weapons of mass destruction is both utterly cynical and a perfectly valid point. U.S. intelligence agencies have repeatedly demonstrated that they regularly both lie and get things horribly wrong. In this case they may well be correct, but they cannot expect Americans to simply take their word for it.

It’s also the case that the U.S. has a long history of interfering in other countries’ elections, and far worse: The U.S. has overthrown democratically elected governments the world over. In fact, in 2006 Hillary Clinton herself criticized the George W. Bush administration for not doing “something to determine who was going to win” in Palestinian elections. It would not be shocking in the least if Russia sought to interfere in the U.S. electoral process.

But let’s have some proof.

In his Farewell Address of 1796, George Washington wrote that, “Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it.” That was good advice then, and it’s good advice now. We have to force our politicians to take it seriously.

And if comes to pass that the U.S. government refuses to back up these serious claims with evidence, then perhaps a patriotic whistleblower will do the public an important service. Here is our offer at The Intercept: If anyone has solid proof that Russia interfered with U.S. elections, send it to us via secure drop and we will verify its legitimacy and publish it.

Lol, Obama went to the trouble of 'legalizing' government propaganda being used against the population and a censorship 'law' which may result in dissenters having/having seen proof of actual facts being 'legally disappeared' - now he's simply too tired to fake up 'evidence of Russian hacking' of an election system not, I believe, on the open internet, although easily hackable from the State Department, if I correctly recall claims of Romney's planned cheat-in being forestalled by FBI? officials posted in the State Department? (Having a tired day, but do seem to to recall something of the kind.)

delegitimizing a president based upon labeling them with being unamerican is not in any way a tit for tat or playful game, it is a strategy to weaken a president and a very serious strategy with many consequences. It is a strategy that has been for the most part kept off the table, but republicans played it, it is fair game for Democrats to do so now. Trump played that card too as a birther, no one should complain if others play the card upon him. Sorry you needed more depth to grasp my comment.

i'm probably older than you.

i'm certainly smarter than you. (almost certainly a LOT smarter than you. probably so much smarter than you that we can only be considered to be of the same species because my offspring could probably mate with your offspring and produce viable fertile offspring.)

it is unlikely that you have ever entertained in your entire life a thought complex enough that any accurate articulation of it wouldn't have been entirely comprehensible to 15-year-old me.

and indeed, your original comment was an accurate and reasonably complete articulation of what you wanted to say. i perceived and comprehended everything there was that you put into that comment, and the philosophy that sourced it, and beyond that, a weighty tangle of ramifications clearly beyond the scope of your own cognition. the philosophy embodied in your original comment is odious and anti-democratic. it deliberately seeks to debase the public discourse by appealing to idiotic fallacies like the concept of "unamerican". to pursue this approach wounds and scars the body politic. i reject it, confidently, certainly, completely.

A couple of years ago i wrote an extensive rant diary at TOP expressing, among other things, my weariness with being told by not-particularly-insightful people that i didn't understand their simplistic and erroneous arguments. in the comments of that diary, i coined the term (which I haven't used since, actually), "dumbsplaining" to describe that phenomenon. and boy howdy, did SK2 load up a barrelfull of it in that "clarification".

and then, hilariously, follows up with the offhand mention of the fact that he has often been told in the past that he's not actually all that bright, as if that's evidence, not that he isn't actually all that bright, but that all of the bright people are not actually all that bright. or something. i don't know.

Was probably a weak attempt to say your very original rant was in fact not original at all because at the heart of it, you were saying he was stupid. My take on it is, anyone can come out and say "You're stupid" but few people can say it in quite the way you did. Maybe that makes me a bad person for enjoying the colorful way you said it, but I also laughed out loud when someone I know told a troll they were an intellectual paraplegic bereft of a wheelbarrow simply because it made for a very visceral image, even if it wasn't particularly nice.
