yeah, i generally get pretty tired of the christmas muzak that seems to be playing everywhere within a week after thanksgiving. on the other hand, i always enjoy the christmas season with the festive lights and the social encouragement for people to be kind to one another.

i hope that you and the kids are having a great time!

We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.

my best to you and yours. ironically, you may be having more christmas-like weather today out in the desert than we are here. today is perfect weather for the tie-dyed t-shirt i got for christmas, it's 70+ degrees here.

turning the tables

Public Policy Polling, which is known for adding questions in surveys to exploit Republicans who are less informed, recently found that 30% of Republican voters would support bombing Agrabah, a fictional country in the Disney film Aladdin. On December 20, 2015, WPA Research fielded a national survey of 1,132 registered voters that found 44% of Democrats would support taking refugees from that same Agrabah. PPP may have proven that some Republicans will support bombing a fictional country, but fully 44% of Democrats will allow refugees from anywhere into the country, whether they are potential ISIS supporters from Syria or potential cartoon characters on a magic carpet ride.

Of course accepting refugees from a fictional country isn't as bad as bombing people in a fictional country.

Santa Claus, charged with gifting the residents of Agrabbah, is scheduled to show up at high noon April 1st,
with roller skates for everybody. Roller skate keys will only be given to properly vetted refugees.

it seems somehow quite appropriate to ask american partisans whether they would like to bomb or take in cartoons, given that our understanding of people outside of our direct experience is shaped by a media which reduces the complexity of virtually everything and everyone to something very like a cartoon, generally lacking the humor of a cartoon, but often containing the pathos.

have a good one!

Mine will be low key with my dawgs and I'll visit my mom in the afternoon.
Sadly I think that this will be her last one since her health is declining.

My favorite Xmas songs is Silent Night by Manheiem Steamroller or Fresh Aire and Nat King Cole's O Holy Night.
I went camping at Bodega Bay one Xmas and was in a deep funk and came across a tiny sand dollar on the beach. For some reason it lifted my spirits.
I was thinking of the Footprints poem which says something about when one is down and out that is when Christ carries us. I took a picture of my lonely footprints showing that I was walking alone and when I developed the film, there is a bright light right in the middle of the photo.
It was after I took the photo that I found the sand dollar.
After finding it, my funk lifted and I had a great Xmas after all.
Thanks for creating this site as a refuge

Believe it or not, I got caught up in hours of video watching of Berlin and Cologne at the end of wwII as an accidental Christmas present. It made me forget the world I live in for a while and I thought about how strange that is.

Did I say I miss my dog? I miss my dog and then some .... So, we seek shelter here in this refuge from time to time to forget about it and that is all good. Many more sand dollars for you in the coming year. Smile

today from the new "mom" of my dog Sasha in her new home. Even if one thinks one has not a home, there is still the outlook that you will find or build a new one. I bet you, I wouldn't have that kind of Christmas tree for my Sasha, if she still would be with me. Just couldn't help to send you that photo. Sasha poses as a reindeer... Smile

lots of real footage from Christmas times in 1945 in Germany. They showed a lot (original footage, not movies) of the refugee movements from east to west and west back to east and I couldn't help seeing the images of Syria's destruction, Libya and Iraq and all the misery all over again. One just wonders why all of it repeats itself over and over and never ends...

Your family has cute black dogs, btw. Smile
Pet them a bit from me.

I best reread your comment.
I saw a photo of the prints in the sand once & was surprised.
It was on a beach.
My marine friends always wondered about that story in amazement.

very nice, thx Joe!

Well Rusty and Max just had themselves a great Christmas Eve walk under an almost-full moon.

But esp Rusty. He called to a little boy, aaa oooo aaaa ooo and the whole family came over and petted him. So he was glowing and all smiles when he spotted a dad carrying his little toddler. Again with the aaaa oooo aaaa ooo. "He wants to say hi to your baby girl," I told the dad. And lo and behold the dad puts the little girl down in front of Rusty. She was all dolled up in cowboy boots and a princess dress and all excited to see Rusty, not even afraid of him, she was dancing and waving her arms and laughing. Dad says she loves dogs. Rusty never licks, just gently nudges her cheek with his nose a few times.

So it's been a great Christmas Eve for Rusty what with spreading love all around the neighborhood, his Christmas duties discharged, he is ready to settle down to a nice chew with his Christmas bone. Max loves kids too but Max is all play and a bit too rough. He's just a big overgrown puppy, so I have to hold him back.

Have a great Holiday everyone, hope y'all get your bellies fully stuffed and your bone fully rested and are fully recharged for to face the New Year in a great frame of mind!

Despite my pessimistic attitude I am participating in this winter festival of light and endless hope. Peace on earth good will to men and let the good times roll. I've had enough of the darkside and I'm looking to the light. Thank you all here for kindling hope and love and looking at the real world as we find it.

Some of my favorite Christmas tunes

Could not find Nat King Cole's version but Crissie is pretty good. On the highest shinning bough. let your heart be light.

Sleep in heavenly sleep.

And now something completely different

there was going to be a "but") you left one out:

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7AKSn9bjuk]

Those troops, btw? They were in Clinton's war, Bosnia.

And lemme just say for the record, I'm all for military engagement where it's necessary; it's just that, since the end of WWII, I have yet to see an engagement meet that criteria.

Actually, there are others in this season of "Peace on Earth and Good Will to All" as we never seem to be near that goal, but wishing and working for it are the needs to be fulfilled:

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpCBFoWDemQ]

And a classic, and a reason for my sig line:

i'm quite inclined to agree with you about the stupidity of every american military engagement since world war two.

thanks for the selections! i've got some more lined up for this evening.
