Judicial Watch: New Documents Show Clinton Conflicts of Interest

Unsigned Memo Contains ‘Private Sector Opportunities’ for Bill Clinton in Haiti

Memo from Clinton Foundation to State Department Lists nearly 200 Then-Current and Former Heads of State to be Invited to 2009 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced that it has received 508 pages of documents in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit seeking information about possible conflicts of interest between the actions taken by Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State and Bill Clinton’s activities. More than 440 pages of the documents were redacted either in full, or with only minor notations remaining. The documents were released as a result of a federal court order in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed against the State Department on May 28, 2013, (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:13-cv-00772)).

The documents included an undated, unsigned memo entitled “Private Sector Opportunities for WJC” [William Jefferson Clinton]. The memo provided capabilities analysis of three companies with major investment interests in Haiti: Tetra Pak, Seaboard, and Cemex.

The documents also include a lengthy March 2009 email from Clinton Foundation Director of Foreign Policy Amitabh Desai to former Assistant Secretary of State Andrew Shapiro and subsequently forwarded to top Clinton aid Jake Sullivan containing the names of nearly 200 then-current and former heads of state to be invited to the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting. The list includes dignitaries from Saudi Arabia, which gave $14.5 million to the Clinton Foundation; Kuwait, which gave between $5 and $10 million; Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar – all of which donated between $1 and $5 million over the years. In February 2015, the Washington Post reported, “A third of foundation donors who have given more than $1 million are foreign governments or other entities … and foreign donors make up more than half of those who have given more than $5 million.”

In July 2014, Judicial Watch released more than 200 conflict-of-interest reviews by State Department ethics advisers of proposed Bill Clinton speaking and consulting engagements during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state. The documents show that Mr. Clinton’s office proposed 215 speeches around the globe. And 215 times, the State Department stated that it had “no objection.” The Washington Examiner published a report by Judicial Watch Chief Investigative Reporter Micah Morrison and Examiner Senior Watchdog Reporter Luke Rosiak which notes that Mr. Clinton “earned $48 million while his wife presided over U.S. foreign policy, raising questions about whether the Clintons fulfilled ethics agreements related to the Clinton Foundation during Mrs. Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State.”

“It is a scandal that the Obama administration stalled the release of these smoking gun documents for over five years,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These documents show that Hillary and Bill Clinton’s machine sought to shake down almost every country in the world, from Saudi Arabia to desperately poor Haiti. President-elect Trump can’t move fast enough to launch a serious criminal investigation of the Clinton cash machine.”

prosecuting the Clintons, after protecting all of the bankers, helping the DNC to rig and steal the primary, the Democratic Party will never recover. Seriously. Who the fuck can trust that?

I'm grateful for MsGrin keeping us up on this. If not for her, it would disappear in the ether. As little as I think of the Clintons, whatever is revealed still surprises me.

What needs to be done is a televised Congressional Hearing with a savvy and honest chief counsel. Follow all the threads and unravel as much as possible wherever it leads.

An idle dream, unfortunately.

There have to be Republicans willing to bring this to public attention. It is to their advantage.
Thank you, again, and again, MsGrin.

We did "dodge a bullet" in making sure it was A.B.C. = Anybody But Clintons. Those crooks think if they keep repeating the lies, have their sycophants out making up shit stories, people will believe them.

I AM SO GRATEFUL THE CLINTONS DID NOT WIN THE ELECTION.

Beware the bullshit factories.

You start to pull on one thread and the whole piece of cloth unravels. But that is what happened with Watergate which eventually led to the Church Committee and the House Assassinations Committee. A lot of very nasty shit was exposed in that period.

Sometimes it's very hard to stop if it just gets started. That's where the savvy lead counsel (note that would have to be a Republican) with some integrity comes in.

General Flynn has been opposing our stupid mid-east adventures, has called for accountability for abuses of prisoners, wants to prioritize going after ISIS over fighting with Russia, and says the droning creates more terrorists.

Bannon wants the responsible people in the banks "held accountable," and profits disgorged, and Glass-Stidgel back, etc. He's said some very indignant things about what was done to the little people.

He doesn't mention Sessions, but I really doubt that Hillary will get off scot-free this time.

The whole article is worth reading - it's not very long.

Democratic (DFL, in his case). It's what both pays his rent and gives him a megaphone. Moreover, he is competing to be chair of the DNC, which would give him both much more rent money and a much bigger megaphone.

One U.S. Senator and two members of the U.S. House--both chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, endorsed Sanders. For me, that puts Ellison in a somewhat different place than even other members of the Progressive Caucus. He is, for me, very different from, say, Guitierrez, who would like to be the next Mayor of Chicago and who suddenly found himself so unable to remember Sanders' name, even though Sanders founded the Committee and chaired it for eight years, that he had to refer to him as "whatshizname, the sssocialisst." All that notwithstanding, Ellison is still a career Democratic politician (and Sanders is a career politician who made deals with Democrats in D.C. and the Democratic Party of Vermont).

At some point, we have to be realistic about such things. By that, I don't mean giving anyone a pass. Perhaps just the opposite. I mean we need to stop idealizing and idolizing politicians and hanging our hopes on any of them. That way lies disappointment or despair and, in either case, failure. We have to stay focused on defining our goals and ways to achieve them.

Apparently he really does plan to Drain the Swamp. I still don't agree with all his stands, but cleaning up is really important, and I think we can work on fixing the others if some of the corruption is gone. The Democrats are just doubling down (and I've been an active Dem all my life - until this primary).

To the Trump admin prosecuting Hillary. On the grounds that we don't prosecute our political enemies, unlike a lot of countries we know.

And I can't completely disagree with that.

However, Bernie isn't happy that the bankers weren't prosecuted. And I think that failing to prosecute the (alleged) Clinton crimes is just as corrosive to our trust in govt.

Plus, I'm not as magnimous/forward looking/nice as Bernie. I want the clinton crime syndicate ground into pulp.

She's an enemy to all except her circle.
If she were to be prosecuted for crimes committed, that others would be, and are in jail for now, I guess that would make her one of us.
For Sanders to protect her is wrong on all counts unless he truly believes she's done nothing wrong.
For dogs sake, her emails are enough to send the commoner away.

That's exactly one of the reasons we now have trump as president, all our politicians are above the law.

"Antisemite used to be someone who didn't like Jews

Heard from Margaret Kimberley

The only quote I've heard from Bernie so far was in response to much pressing by a pushy interviewer trying to create trouble for Bernie, and Bernie finally responded - specifically - that a winning President imprisoning a losing candidate over a difference in opinion was the stuff of dictatorships. If you recall, Trump said that, as President, he'd imprison Hillary, with no mention of a fair trial establishing her undoubted and multifarious guilt first, something to which every criminal is entitled.

(Edit: Bernie) said nothing about blanket pardons for the criminal behaviours of the hyper-wealthy, connected, politically powerful being acceptable to him, which was the outrageous (no moral person could accept this, but saying so in a corporate media interview would have been a very bad idea) question posed by the corporate media interviewer, because they no more would be to him than they would to me - and that is, obviously, another sign of a dictatorship/oligarchy.

I can't imagine Bernie feeling that the powerful (or anyone) should be 'above the law' - but he's also smart enough not to walk into such traps as the corporate media and others set for him. What he actually said has evidently already been distorted to be used against him, as has proven to be typical. It's essential to TPTB and their lackeys that the Left be turned against each other, because, like the public they so carefully divide via propaganda, we are only a hazard to them when united.

The State Department was stuffed with Clinton cronies (still is) and was a conduit for Clinton tax-free cash. They acted in the capacity of a Clinton speech bureau, PR firm, protector, and enabler. No wonder Hill assumed she'd be president. Nobody ever said "No" to either Hill or Bill, especially the equally crooked Dems. Hope Haiti gets back that ten $billion. All they got from the Clintons were a few demo sweatshop projects at below minimum wage (for Haiti).

In the first video, Bill, when confronting the accusation, has the same posture looking down his nose, tone of voice and finger wagging when he adamantly denied copulation with Monica Lewinski. "I never had sex with that woman."

Criminals in every fiber of their being. It is no wonder as to why Hillary did not divorce him. She'd never, ever find a better partner in crime. Chelsea can't be any better. How could she be? White trash with pedigrees.

Thanks - that'd be cool.

There are soooooo many lawsuits they have - I just try to check their press release page regularly. But the Haiti stuff is particularly pernicious. Really stomach-turning. So MUCH good could have been done and it was utterly squandered. There was a moment when I wondered if I could endorse a Clinton presidency, but when I ran across this stuff in the spring, all bets were off. Disgusting. If there was ever any doubt about the sociopathy of those two, this confims it. It's all about what's in it for them - fuck the little people who can't fight back.

For staying up on JW's emails and reporting them here.
I have been writing and posting links about the Clinton's Haiti scandals for many months.
The collusion between the CF and the state department should have been investigated long before JW got involved.
Mills flew to Haiti over 30 times to talk with Bill about how the money should be spent.
And that huge factory that was built? Do you know that over 10,000 acres of farmland was destroyed in order for that to be built and it didn't provide the number of jobs that were promised?
Do a search for Clinton Haiti scandals and see the tons of hits.
The CF needs to be investigated and I don't care if Hillary isn't a public figure anymore. She can still be impeached for what she did during her time as SOS.
The pay for play was illegal. So many companies that had business with the state department would first pay Bill to give a speech, then Hillary would fly in and fix it and then those companies and financial institutions would give million to the CF. How is that not pay to play?
And why didn't Grassley follow through when he was questioning if it was legal?

I was ignorant of this stuff until this past spring. Others remain willfully unaware at this point. The behavior is so vile.

If the Congressional Republicans don't follow through, I suspect Trump may. A lot of what they did is not exactly illegal, it's merely utterly corrupt. People have been paying for it with their lives, however. I vomit a bit in my mouth every time someone says CF does good work. Not according to the evidence I've seen (and I did work in the Foundation world for half a decade, so I'm not entirely unfamiliar with it or how it's evaluated).

after over 6 years since the Haiti earthquakes why so many people were still living in tents. Maybe they weren't aware of it, but so many websites have been covering this, especially counterpunch.
Then after Matthew decimated Haiti there were all those pictures of people's tents and cardboard homes destroyed by it.
That should have made people look into what happened to the reconstruction in Haiti by the CF.
I realize a lot of people don't have time to search the web like I do, but I always provide links in my comments.
Sometimes I wonder why I bother because after I make a comment on various issues and provide links to them, a few days later I will see an essay that someone writes covering the stuff I had written about earlier in the week.
When people put links in their comments I look at them because they have gone the extra mile to make their points.
Sorry if this sounds like I am tooting my horn.
And your essay is different because you have been focusing on JW's reports and emails.

on the site, often only the current ones without going back a page or so, they probably miss a lot of good stuff that they would be interested in, and possibly do reblog a topic without realizing it has already been covered.

If I see something I had already written about, I don't mind at all because I think if the topic interested me enough to write about, it's a good thing if it gets even more coverage, plus every writer has their own unique slant and viewpoint, even if discussing the same topic or article. I know that I wouldn't mind if I covered something someone else had already written about, if they made a comment and mentioned that they too had written an essay on the same thing and offer a link.

Please write more about Haiti, snoopydawg. I think it offers up just about a perfect case study of how the whole DOS/CF nexus worked, especially within the context of "disaster capitalism" as Klein defines it, or a newer term I have seen, "predatory humanitarianism". The Haitians don't seem to be too happy about the results. In a nutshell, much of the Clinton perspective seems to have been on long term economic development - hotels and business parks, etc.- without addressing the immediate needs of the Haitian people like food, shelter, roads and schools or addressing those issues in an inadequate fashion.

Plus, just once I would like the Clintons or their spokespeople to define the mechanism clearly - What's in it for the Foundation? I have read of the Foundation described a broker of charity as opposed to an actual charity itself. What I have come to believe, although it may or may not be accurate, is that the Foundation gets "administration fees" for putting together a cause and a funder, in other words, almost a commission. True? Not true? Tell us.

The memo about the "opportunities" for WJC are interesting. The 3 companies seem to already be involved and invested in doing good stuff for Haitians - safe milk, a deep port and concrete facility, and non-coal cookstoves. I'd be interested to know what the Opportunities for WJC turned out to be - speaking fees? Did the companies then get some State Department contracts, money? Did the Haitians make out better or worse than they would have made out without the CF involvment?

I wonder how many republicans are caught up in the Clinton foundation and would go down if the Clintons do?
I wish I had bookmarked the article where it says that if the foundation was really looked into that it would bring down many governments and officials.
It is that corrupted.
Also I bet most members of congress have stocks in the defense industry and under Obama weapons sales went way up.
Over $135-165 billion in weapons were sold during Hillary's time as SOS.
And both Bill and their foundation profited from them even though Hillary said she would keep the foundation separate from her duties at the state department.

The divide now is plutocrats and plebes. George Carlin, whom I unfortunately appreciated most only after he was gone, nailed it: It's a big club and you ain't in it. As hard as they work to keep us divided, they are united around things like ending entitlements, patting themselves on the back for being special because they "succeeded," etc.

I, too, only appreciated Carlin after his death. He was spot on. Talk about nailing something; he tried to warn us. I wonder how many people, in that audience, who didn't applaud; didn't believe his words, are thinking about that now. They effectively put us to sleep and now, with either Clinton or Trump, they are coming in for the kill, to finish us off, to put the slave class in concrete. Can we break out of it? Only if we are willing to fight the good fight. Are the American people up for it? We're about to find out.

More recently, Kissinger did recommend drastic population reduction to President Ford, which would help with global warming, food shortages, etc. So, no one i power cares if the food allowance in Social Security has no cost of living factor because food prices are "too volatile?" . (For how many decades has that been true? When did food prices last descend rapidly? Forget "the stupid." It's the dishonesty, the corruption and the callousness that "burn.")

because it clearly and explicitly shows State Department resources being used as a bird dog for the Big Dog. Really, can't be much clearer than that. And there's still the case of the guy who was put on the Nuclear Security board whose only qualification appeared to be contributions to the CF. And then there's the FOB stuff being sorted out for special attention when awarding contracts.

It looks like the State Department is the plum position for crony capitalism. Rudy Giuliani is practically drooling, he wants the position so badly.

Clearly, more transparency is needed in the area of seeing and how and to whom USAID contracts are awarded.
