51% believe Hillary has done something illegal
....according to a new McClatchy-Marist Poll. Full Poll results.
When I read this I chuckled and thought "she can't win". Whoopsie....Well sure enough, she has a 2 point lead over Trump, 46% to 44%.
Both candidates are disliked.
Clinton gets a favorable rating from just 40 percent while 57 percent have unfavorable views of her. Voters have a 61 percent to 36 percent unfavorable-favorable rating of Trump.
“This is practically off the charts,” said Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion in New York, which conducted the nationwide survey. “You have candidates coming before the electorate with enormous baggage.”

With NatephreakingSilver posting about Clintons firewall, some of his Electoral College projections describe a very close EC race, potentially neither candidate getting 270. Nate apparently is unaware of the now 9 week old phone banking effort into Vermont, asking voters to write in Bernie in a close race. To be honest Nate may be aware of the effort, he's just not acknowledging it publicly. As more and more EC projections show the race tightening, and the Bernie write in effort has growing to 11 states including California, it should be clear the only write in state that should be seriously considered a realistic possibility is Vermont.... assuming in the first place that neither Clinton or Trump gets 270.
130 million people voted in 2012, it is estimated that 130,000 Bernie write ins could deliver Vermont's 3 electoral college votes to Senator Sanders. A mere .01% compared to 2012's turnout. But hey, a long shot to get Bernie back in contention, into a 3 person race, decided by the House.

I'd recently thought that a 12th Amendment vote in the House would do nothing more than install Hillary. Way back when, when I was a callow naif, I thought that they would rebuke Hillary and Donald and choose Bernie. Ha!
But considering the rumors of the past 48 hours I'm beginning to wonder if we might not see a scenario where no coup de grace news kills her campaign before the election. Then, instead of winning outright, it goes to the House. But before they can vote on it, the truth comes out about the files on Weiner's laptop. Given a choice of Trump or Bernie, I think they'd go with Bernie.

This is why his election predictions, both primary and general, have been so off base. Many, if not most polls, except the online ones:
1. undersample millenials and independents
2. oversample Democrats.
It is not really about sampling
It is about the turnout expectations used to weight the samples. Over-sampling one group or another just gives you a better picture of that group's behavior. The problem is that the various demographic groups sampled must then be weighted into a final total based on assumptions about their proportion of the actual electorate. If there is a massive enthusiasm gap among millennials between the current election and the previous elections that are used to construct the model, then the results will be incorrect. This is one reason gjohnsit's great essay about early voter turnout was so important. It seems to show a significant drop in turnout for blacks and millennials in a number of key states. That means that the polling for those states will be incorrect, and probably overestimate Clinton votes.
