It's Time For Outright Mockery
I'm generally respectful of other people's opinions, mostly chortling to myself when I see or hear something outrageous. However, with the way this election season is degenerating into parody and fantasy, I think the time for chortling is over and the time for mockery has arrived.
The New York Times has an opinion piece by Charles M. Blow titled Trump Is an Existential Threat. Seriously. And it's not even April 1st. Blow writes "if you are not actively voting against him, you are abetting his attempt to hijack American greatness and sink it with his egotism ... Donald Trump is America’s existential threat. On Tuesday, America has an opportunity to defend itself."
Really, Charles? How should we defend ourselves? Fly an airplane into Trump Plaza? Invoke 2nd Amendment remedies? Or perhaps we should vote for Hillary Clinton so that she can initiate nuclear war with Russia.
In the Washington Post, Michael Hayden penned this op-ed: Trump is Russia’s useful fool. If the name Hayden sounds familiar, that's because he was NSA and then CIA director under GW Bush. Yes, THAT Hayden, the one that brought us the warrantless surveillance state and informed us that that pesky old "probable cause" thingy is not required by the US Constitution.
Not to be outdone, Slate doubles down on their oft debunked fantasy article about a "mysterious" link between a Trump email server and a Russian bank with a new entry containing even less "evidence" and even more speculation:
Sorting through the new evidence, and competing theories, about the Trump server that appeared to be communicating with a Russian bank.
No, Slate!! There is no new evidence. There are no competing theories. It. Was. Disproved. Conclusively. See Errata Security for details.
Finally, on caucus99percent, we were treated to a treatise on how the FBI is infested with Trump loyalists with nothing on their minds but how to bring down Hillary Clinton. Yesterday it was the Russians trying to de-coronate Hillary. Today it's the FBI. Who knows about tomorrow. But be vewwy, vewwy afwaid!!!
So I submit that we should no longer try to mildly disabuse their odd conjectures. It's time for outright mockery. Make fun of them. Submit silly, off-topic comments. Ridicule them mercilessly. Mock their theories and expose their lies. They deserve it.
Comments
But they enjoy it too much.
Besides, they give us free advertising on other well (cough) respected (hack) sites. (vomit)
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Hillary is on par with Trumps ego
But in such a cold calculating way that is unnerving. His is just overcompensating for his tiny hands.
tiny
"Hands" is not correct here.
The identity of the noun that should be used here is left as an exercise to the reader.

Wait, let me go find Grandfather's microscope...
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
True character is demonstrated
by how we treat our lessers.
However, I never claimed to have character.
There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.
I treat my lesser great. I pay my rent on time every month.
Barum bum
I'm beginning to think that some of these characters
want Hillary to lose. The hyperbole is........... well just hyperbolic. People just turn away and stop reading/listening.
'Existential threat',... "Threat To United States And The Entire World" (B. Obama).
Good grief. Trump is an awful, loathsome toad of a man, but will the Constitution be voted out of existence on Nov. 8th?
The Democrats only have themselves to blame for their vassal status with regard to the Clintons.
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
Trump would get stomped ...
A decent Democrat would be stomping Trump 60% to 30%. It's only the nomination of Hillary Clinton as Democratic savior that has allowed Trump to tie and possibly beat her. Clinton is a damaged candidate and a poor campaigner and she is despised by a majority of Americans. There's nobody to blame for Trump's current standing but Hillary and the Democratic Party.
the Democratic Party should have read....
...the writing on the wall that this was going to be an anti-establishment election, yet they proceeded to go with Clinton. you can't get any more establishment than that. her loss to Obama in '08 should have given them a clue. half the Democrats didn't want Clinton then or in the 2016 primary vs. Sanders. they're supposed to be the smart elite thinkers??? they have only themselves to blame if Clinton loses but somehow i don't think they're going to let that happen despite the probable majority that won't vote for her.
The taxing power amendment of the COTUS
is about all that is still left of it. Beyond that, you have all the rights government doesn't mind you having. So far, we're good on not quartering soldiers in our homes, but I'm not promising anything. You never know what government may need next.
Damn. Forgot about quartering.
That's called home invasion now? The guns might be nice...

Tomorrow?
Tomorrow, it'll be the Obama administration trying to destroy her coronation. Probably working with Kenyan royalty or something. Hey, they (her supporters) could be on the verge of that level of crazy, can't they?
They ARE on the verge.
If Obama said one thing that could be construed or misconstrued as being critical of Hillary, he'd be joining the hundreds of others that have been thrown under the bus. In a heartbeat.
Mockery, right? Semi-serious or serious.
[1] It's Charles M. Suck named for his misunderstandings of economics, class awareness, the lunar cycle.
[2] Michael Hayden is an Elmer Fudd lookalike without the panache and fortitude. Elmer had a code. You, Fuddboy, swore to uphold the Constitution and did not. You got your little soldier suit but Elmer even looked better in his hunting garb.
[3] Slate. Isn't that what boy Abe did his sums on out there in Illinois? Didn't Abe have better ideas and grasp of English usage than the editors and writers of Slate do?
It's desperation time for the Clinton Love Machine - the drapes have been purchased for the WH and the butler hired(rumored to be Markos Mousebreath). (gasp) Maybe we won't get there. Maybe Trump will raise our rents?

This comment is a literary masterpiece! So many delicious morsels in a few short paragraphs!
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
Mockery, you say? I adore mockery.
But there is only so much I can say Over There whilst remaining in the club. However, on my Facebook feed, I continuously say, "If you were so afraid of Trump, you should have voted for Bernie," and "They're both awful, vote Jill Stein". Maybe not outright mockery, but no patience for their pseudo hand wringing and attempts at guilting my vote. I get right to the point.
I did get into a little "both sides do it" Over There, the delusion of confirmation bias.
But I admit, reserved my severest mockery for OranguTrump:

At 60 years old...
I'm amazed that in my lifetime I was cursed to witness a presidential contest between possibly the two worst major party candidates in history. Trump brags about grabbing pussy. Clinton brags about assassinating Qaddafi. Trump brags about not paying taxes. Clinton brags about instituting a no-fly zone over Syria despite international law and the strong likelihood of provoking Russia. Trump stuffs an entire religion into a basket of Muslims. Clinton stuffs millions of working class Americans into a basket of deplorables. Neither is qualified to be president of the United States.
I just hadda blow
snot bubbles at the "don't get grabby" one.

Fantastic!
I love it when I make people blow snot bubbles.

So agree, yet wary...
Mockery assumes privilege or power. You have to be feeling pretty comfy in your own sit' to cast mockery. A very gifted comedian friend had a line, "There was a philosopher who said all comedy must have a victim. [beat] That philosopher was a retard."
But comedians have a mic or a stage or both - i.e., power/position.
I don't feel so powerful these days. Not enough to mock. Think about the ole chestnut, " First they ignore you, then they make fun of you..."
But in reverse.
I don't want to be caught chortling when we're better prolly in the fight phase.
These psychopaths mean business. I'd like to find a way to mean business back.
"Mockery assumes privilege or power."
you've just undermined the entire premise of satire. comedy in general, really.
the last thing mockery does is "assume privilege or power". the most productive use of mockery, far and away, is punching up.

oh i'm more than willing
i just poop myself in front of crowds. lol.
i think there are a lot of people who would love to blast out some good comedy, they just don't have the mouthpiece. i see many here on c99 that are hilariously snarky, but snarky with depth. good crowd.

I can punch up. So can you!
We (collectively) could make a course on how to Punch Up. No one would find it, sounds too much like an exercise course (for only $79.99)
Trump IS this century's PT Barnum. And yes, PT Barnum is still right.

My comment to the NY Times on another op-ed about the FBI...
"if you are not actively voting against him,
you are abetting his attempt to hijack American greatness"
Well, I'm clean, then...I voted against him, and for Jill Stein.

You don't have to tell me twice
Just point me in the direction.
It's rage against the machine full-time.
But yes, still figuring out who, where. Why is clear.
Is it even polite to do mockery before next week? No laws on the books?

We are cool if we mock their
positions, fear mongering and blind arrogance, not personal mockery. LOL. Though sometimes it's so damned tempting....

Im not up for real mockery yet
Im concentrating on drinking heavily.
I'll drink to that!
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
