A short plea to the community here
I just want to say that I do not see any solution to the fact that whatever we say, write and debate, is being used against us any time the people in power centers of this country and its allies would find it profitable to them.
I feel that the technology allows major harrassment of citizens with unwanted email solicitiations from anyone, who wants to run for political power positions, including their aides, advisors, lobbyists and allies helping them organize it. I would want to sue "them all".
I as a citizen haven't given any corporation, association or business or private person to keep anything I said or posted on the intertubes, the authorization to archive my words posted online and prevent me from deleting them, so that they can't be abused by anyone in the future. My email inbox is full of harrassing solicitations for money. I would want that to become illegal and such a law to be enforced.
I would like most people to stop watching manipulative video material. For the general person, there is no way to understand, if the video is legit material, by whom the material was filmed, who edited the material and who paid those people who produced it. Therefore I implore you to let go of most of the visual material you see.
The mental and emotional enslavement to this medium is based on a 100 percent fool-proof addiction of the mind.
In any case, that's what I think about it and I try to act accordingly. I wish everyone well in the future. We might need all a lot of luck.
Tired of it and I have had it. This ain't working. Bye.

Totally agree. We are being beaten down byharassment.
I can't even spacebar there, In Subject. Wrong, wrong.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
I would support a law against unwanted emails
And no sharing - if you sign up with Clinton, just for an example, you don't get emails from the DNC or Obama or down-ballot candidates or any such unless you expressly opt in.
However, they don't ruin my email experience. I just delete them. Unread unless I feel like reading. I like to understand the opposition. I even get emails from Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul (my senators!). Trump tweets me, I tweet insults back to him. (Usually, "Sorry, you lost me. I don't want to make America groped again.")
I do think there are times to put the computer away for a while. There was a post elsewhere the other day encouraging people to do just that and go see the autumn leaves - while posting lovely photos of autumn leaves! It worked; I did and I did. Didn't take any photos, we're not at our peak yet, but getting there, there are some bright orange-reds.
But I digress. I hope you don't leave us for good, mimi. Just pace yourself.

It's kind of true but it's a shame
Because we really need places like this where we can safely discuss the issues that affect our existence.
Beware the bullshit factories.
It is a shame, but I'll be damned if they'll silence me
or scare me off.
I don't begrudge anyone else feeling differently--we all gotta do what we think is right--but IMO, they WANT you to be scared off. So why give them the satisfaction of silencing you or anyone else you know?
Yes, of course
We don't have a choice.
edit: Well, we do have a choice. Do we care about having a future or don't we?
Beware the bullshit factories.
Who is "they"? "They" don't silence me, it's
the technology that is uncontrollable by most of its users. It's not right. I know people can't be silenced. That's good. Still it's not right how they try to achieve it nevertheless. And nobody knows who "they" are.
I am too angry to continue posting. Thank you for your comment.

Mimi, the EU is putting a stop to much of what troubles you.
The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) will be enacted in 2018 with very severe penalties for those who do not comply.
See General Data Protection Regulation. If you search the news about it, you will see that there is a freakout going on among businesses.
The point is that many countries of the world will follow suit, perhaps even the US.
thx, Pluto, I will research it in a while /nt

Each of us has a different level of tolerance
As to emails, I simply delete and/or unsubscribe. Probably 95% of what comes into my email box is junk mail. I do not read it, just delete it.
As to privacy, I accept that by being on line, I have lost a lot of my privacy. It is part of the risk I am willing to make in order to be a part of this community. I am very positive that I am already in some sort of NSA archive for being part of a very public Peace vigil for nearly five years. When I made the decision to participate in that, Occupy, and Awake the State, I did so knowing that I might be labeled as some sort of subversive. Because I am retired, I did so because most employed people would be afraid to do it for fear of losing their jobs. This is also the same reason I have chosen to use my own photo as my avatar. I want people here to see me as a real person and for the NSA to know exactly who I am.
Those are my choices which I have made knowing potential consequences. I cannot expect everyone here to do the same and I respect their decisions.

that's ok for you, I do not think, my intolerance is
applicable to most of you. Also, I see the value of a blog like this, as an information clearing station. (oh, I don't know the words for what I want to say).
But I personally just don't accept it and take it as a given that anything that is posted in the social medial blogosphere is uncontrollable. I shouldn't have to waste my time going through emails and delete them etc. And it's just not only a question of emails, it's the whole social media blogosphere. If you want to close an account anywhere they make it a hassle and difficult. Shouldn't be allowed.
It's different for me, I am not a citizen.

Mimi, I am very empathetic
to what you are saying. It is obvious that this issue is really bothering you because you have posted several similar essays recently. For your own sake, you need to walk away, temporarily, if not permanently. No one can say anything that is going to make you feel more comfortable about on line activity.
Your other point seems to be that we should not watch videos that may or may not be legitimate. I assume you are referencing the James O'Keefe video that was recently posted here. The question I ask is how can I decide if something is legitimate or not if I have not seen it? It is only then that I can make up my mind as to its veracity. Do I believe everything I see or read? Absolutely not. Like most people here, I use my own instincts and experience to decide what is or is not worth believing.
Only you can decide how to deal with this issue and what makes you feel more comfortable about the internet. If you cannot find how to make peace with the intrusiveness of this medium, you really should just walk away. Peace to you, Mimi.

gulfgal, I know I will not walk away, as I want the information,
which is provided in the EB and by many of the writers here. It has great value. I am just so kaputt because of the constant incitement of fighting arguments, one candidate against the other, the constant put down of someone because of the lies which are revealed. With regards to video material, I anticipated I would use my retirement to produce videos. It will not work out for me. I can't stand the way many videos are cut. Brutally cut. They hurt my eyes. I was not referring to a specific one, I am so distraught I can't even remember the names or the producers.
I am scared not for me, I hope I can walk away. I am scared for other people, who can't master their lives and technology the way most of you can. It's probably just a temporary imbalance in my thinking and feeling. Not everyone is retired and safe, you do not seem to have a lot of "working class" folks here, who feel disadvantaged and are angry and are dependent and have little "book knowledge" to compete against most "smart talking guys/gals" on social media..
I just want to leave everything behind and have my peace and not be scared for my loved ones.
With regards to your avatar, I often told myself I should post my photo for the same reason you decided to do. But I fear that my comments would hurt other people, who are associated with me. And I had quite revealing experiences years ago how people are gleeful or upset to have their photo published in diaries on dailykos. It is an issue that does bother many people.
Thank you for your patience. It's ok, I know people think I am pathetic and whiney. My apologies. It's probably true.

They'll have to pry my words from my cold dead mouth.
Wait, that's not it. It's something like that.
Obviously people have to be careful now, you never know, particularly if you're younger with ambitions. We see things come back to "haunt" people every day. I'm not too worried about it personally. I don't do Facebook, twitter, or even own an Iphone. I don't email much at all. I write stuff but so far we're still able to do that. But if I was younger I'd think twice about what I say and do. Now, sometimes I don't even think once.
We have me the enemy and the enemy is us.
to "get ahead" you have to play the game
and you have to play it from the start. Any sign that you're not entirely on their side and you're out.
I think back to my high school days and I'm sure that I was disqualified starting then.
Which is to say I agree that anything on facebook or twitter or whatever the kids use now will be held against them.
Absolutely you do. Now some employers even ask
about your Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Sixteen tons what do you get, another day older and deeper in debt.
We still owe our souls to the company store. One way or another.
We are all in this together.
Mimi, like GG I am retired and "safe." Like you, I want information but often get overwhelmed by all the sturm und drang of contemporary culture. I am not on social media and limit my online time to accommodate my psyche. To deal with email I use the delete all function then skim for one minute to uncheck the few I actually want to read. Cuts the annoyance factor for me.
I know that all of us who want a just society, of whatever socio-economic class and of whatever background and current ground, must stand together and fight in whatever way we best can, or "they" have won. PEACE to you and yours. You will find your own healthy level of engagement. In the meantime, rant on here as you wish. I always read your diaries and comments even if I often have no have time to reply because of my self set time limits.
