Beware the bullshit factories.

Upwards to 80% of Americans supported the Iraq invasion at one time. The same propaganda dynamics is happening with Putin/Russia. Propaganda works.

As the posting is about Merkel, one point to remember is that during the German Nazi era, the Nazis literally blamed every problem on Jews. Much like at least the EU is doing with Putin. It has come here in America, but not yet to EU levels. In particular, Hitler believed that Jews had taken over the communist (Bolshevik) party and posed the greatest danger to Germany. Same kind of rhetoric about Russia being the most dangerous threat to America, and they like the communist Jews of past, are undermining Western values and they pop up everywhere causing problems. I bet you could go back to the 1930's and find translations of Nazi vile toward the Russians that feels like what is being said by the West at this moment.

How is the EU blaming everything on Putin like the Nazis blaming everything on the Jews again? Not that I know anything about anti-Putin propaganda in Europe, but I think there is more of a connection between the anti-Muslim rhetoric in Europe (and here too) and the Nazi fomenting of hatred towards Jews. Nobody should blame everything on anybody.

Beware the bullshit factories.

Here is a list of some things the Europeans have loaded blamed Russia for. If you read articles, the phrasing many times is that Russia/Putin has "weaponized" this or that.

Here is some stuff not on the list.

  • Putin deliberately caused the massive refugee crisis of war and other refugees flooding Europe. This refugee flood were made even before the first Russian bomb dropped in Syria
  • Putin pushed for Brexit. One Brit pol said that Putin deliberately sent drunken Russian fans to Euro 2016 to effect the vote on Brexit
  • Putin sent snipers to Kiev to shoot policemen and protesters
  • Putin is directly responsible for Ukrainian government corruption after the Maiden. In general you can go to the website of can go the website for Radio Free Europe and find up to three to five anti-Russian articles at any one time
  • The internal security minister for Poland accused the Russians of being behind the Paris terrorists attack
  • Putin essentially is responsible for European extremist groups.

http://theduran.com/us-media-blames-putin-russia-everything-proof/

I wish I kept a list, as some of them are insane. Here is some stuff from The Nation. Putin tried regime change in Germany by blaming the refugee crisis. Basically many Germans are pissed off at Merkel how she has handled the refugee crisis, but the source of the criticism is Putin.

https://www.thenation.com/article/russia-europes-scapegoat-for-all-seasons/

The Guardian reported that Jānis Sārts, director of NATO’s Strategic Communications Center of Excellence in Latvia, “believed there was now evidence” that Russia was “trying to topple Angela Merkel by waging an information war designed to stir up anger in Germany over refugees.”

What that evidence was, the paper didn’t say, knowingly stating instead that Sārts “has access to intelligence briefings.” But lack of evidence did little to prevent Europe’s most widely read English-language daily from reporting, as more or less unquestioned fact, Moscow’s angling for regime change in Berlin.
...

Talk of “weaponization” and “regime change” increasingly bears the hallmarks of a strategy intended to shift responsibility for Europe’s “refugee crisis” from the shoulders of an EU leadership that has proved unable to stop the flow of migrants, to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s. Eerily, Sārts and Breedlove are merely repeating claims that European Council President Donald Tusk (prime minister of Poland from 2007 to 2014) has been putting about for almost six months.

...

That the Kremlin stands behind all the EU’s ills has in recent years become a commonplace. A year ago, the talk, in which Tusk featured prominently, was that Moscow was trying to lure the highly indebted Greek and Cypriot governments into breaking ranks with its European partners and NATO allies. Austerity policies imposed by Greece’s EU partners had created depression-like conditions unseen since the 1930s. Yet blame for Athens’s opening to Moscow somehow shifted instead to Moscow’s largely imagined blandishments. (Like the “breach,” none materialized.)

Today, Moscow has been accused of both deliberately bombing residential areas of Aleppo to force inhabitants to flee to Turkey and thence to Europe with the aim of breaking EU unity and providing unspecified support for Europe’s far-right or contrarian parties, with Moscow’s overriding aim being to stoke euro-skeptic views to paralyze the EU, if not break it up.

Hostility toward both national governments and the supranational EU bureaucracy is rising in many European countries. But it does so independently of Russia, which has (once again) been made the scapegoat for Europe’s failings. These include a widespread sense of blockage in national political life (that change, no matter who is in government, is no longer really possible) and the crushing absence of realism in the EU’s conception and practice of international politics. How was it that the foreign relations of the EU’s 28 sovereign members, and the peace of Europe, were allowed to become hostage to the geopolitical ambitions of Poland?

Here in the states Clinton said Putin is funding anti-fracking groups. The NYTimes reported that Putin may have been behind anti-TPP efforts.

Don't understand the bluster about sanctions. Like Putin will just stop supporting Assad? Is this comment supposed to intimidate Putin? Putin will just issue counter sanctions like he did on EU agriculture which cost the EU hundreds of millions of Euros in lost revenue from the Russian market. And conversely has set up a boom for Russian farmers. Hell, French and even Lithuanian farmers protested the sanctions that lead to the counter sanctions.

Was Merkel's comments meant for Obama to show how tough she is going to give it to Putin?

You want peace, but you go into a conference attacking the leader and people who hold the keys to a peaceful solution?? I think Germany is going to increase their defense budget--is she justifying the increase by making the Syria situation worse?

I get tired of hearing that.
I mean really?

Like for example, is rounding up all Russian Nationals outside of Russia and interning them in forced labor camps "on the table"?

What Merkele means to say is that, out of the infinite universe of morally intolerable punishments with which NATO might choose to afflict the Russian state AND folk, a particular subset of horrific and psychopathic actions has managed to become "normalized" in the minds of the public, such that our own horrific and psychopathic leaders believe they can plausibly threaten to take those actions without risking a meaningful blowback from the people they theoretically represent.

Some sleeping dragons need to be left alone. It appears that Frau Merkel is considering rousing some of them. This is a bad idea, and we here at c99p are saying it is a bad idea.

A bad idea that German leaders have, in historical fact, invoked before. With disastrous consequences for Germany every time!

Not to mention how dependent Germany is on Russian natgas.

Ergebnisse des Gipfeltreffens mit Putin
I can't embed the video and I am sure the German-Russia threat experts here understand enough German to get that they are nuts.I won't even try to translate.
And there is nothing "threatening" in the demand to ask for a permanent cease-fire in Aleppo.
Merkel fordert "andauernden Waffenstillstand" in Aleppo - 20. Oktober 2016, 15:44 Uhr (Merkel demands permanent cease-fire in Aleppo

(Brussels (AFP) German Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) has called for a permanent ceasefire for the Syrian city of Aleppo. They hope that the EU summit will make it clear that the actions of Syria "with Russian assistance" in Aleppo is "totally inhuman," Merkel said in Brussels on Thursday. The people in the city would need as soon as possible "a lasting cease-fire" and "not only for several hours a day").

The situation IS inhumane and there is nothing wrong with Merkel to get together with Putin and have a talk. It's called diplomacy. Apparentely Russia has accepted to hold cease-fire til Saturday. That's a start. But not the start for wwIII, as people here seem it necessary to claim.

If Merkel is making a little bit more demanding statements, I guess it's the ago-old attempt to show to the Americans that she isn't a Putin puppet, because so many Americans believe so. "Was fuer ein Quatsch".

So, what do you make out if? That Merkel is breast-thumping and threatening Putin? You guys and gals must be out of your mind. Merkel and Putin could have a Kaffeeklatsch in German, if they wanted to. So, you know, stop with that rhetoric, please.

someone announced 'all options on the table' the only one that's been getting used is the military one. Forgive me, Mimi, but with the ratcheting up of European rhetoric Against Russia, the demonizing of Russia by her and the dlc/dnc And now 'intelligence agencies' of the us confirming but not offering proof of confirmation that the Russky's did it, plus the 'rogue' reports out the pentagon, I really don't feel I'm out of line here in my concern.
By all accounts, Russia is in Syria legally( what ever the fuck that means) and western forces are not. I know it means Assad invited them in, but legality can mean whatever the hell THEY want it to, see private server as an example.
Also Russian air defense units green lighted to 'defend' themselves and Assad forces on the ground against 'hostile aircraft'. Th shit is heating up fast and I'd like to get out the fucking pot before it boils over, thanks.
I honestly don't mean to be rude to you, I'm just Very passionate about avoiding any New wars(they do seem to be variations on a theme through time) and trying to end the ones we're in now.
And we could end the war in a month by cutting off the supply of weapons and ammo today. Let the bastards throw rocks at each other since it doesn't appear they have the sense to stop fighting. But then, neither do we. Go figure.

I didn't find the rhetoric as threatening as you did and I am sure you have followed it more closely than I. To me that rhetoric is just to satisfy the US so that Germany looks like a "good ally", whatever that means. Germans if asked to take sides will never rachet up rhetoric against the Americans and feel obligated to "repeat after me" style rhetoric against Russia to get into the same rhetoric the Americans are using against them. Even the so-called left does it. I consider that as very weak, but not as threatening. I can't believe that anyone in Germany wants to get into a conflict with Russia and put a military option on the table as a threat. But may be I am naive and may be I havent read enough.

I will try to follow that more closely.

And definitely, I want peace and no more wars.
