Can't Follow the Secretary's Server Game Without the Program
Okay sports fans, the exhibition match between The Powers That Be vs The Great Unwashed in The Secretary's Server game is winding down. The score at the bottom of the ninth inning with three minutes left to play is TPTB 112, TGU 1.
We had some real powerhouse participants and plays that we'll just go ahead and recap and then we will open the voting for Most Valuable Player.
The Nominees for Most Valuable Player on the side of TPTB are:
The President - limited his appearances on the field but we believe was a strong presence in the clubhouse. Faked out TGU with his assurance that he learned about the email and the server the same time as everyone else, when he had actually corresponded with said email a number of times using a fake name! Also may have greased the balls with early pronouncement of the SOS's innocence, leading many to wonder, why do we even have the game if TPTB know the score in advance?
The Secretary - already the winner of the Lillian Hellman Trophy for Outstanding Misspeaking (1)- she may make it look easy, but it takes real skill to transform literally every word coming out of your mouth into a lie including "and" and "the". There is no one to match her when it comes to delivering a False Exculpatory as pointed out by Trey Gowdy.
The Attorney General a ref who got herself thrown out of the game by hanging around tarmacs with the Secretary's husband, the guy who actually had started her career as a ref in the Minor Leagues. But, like the Prez, still a clubhouse presence. Five immunities from DOJ! No one in living memory has ever handed out five immunities to five subjects with no payoff except silence and a stifled prosecution. What, that was the goal? Not a failure, but a success? Got it. A stellar example of Inside Baseball. Kudos, AG.
The FBI Director the guy from central casting who could give lessons in Earnestness in weekend seminars. But what's this? He's not just the stolid gumshoe who worked his way up in the ranks? He's a former executive for a company that got 17 private contracts from the Secretary's DOS and that contributed to the Clinton Foundation and was part of another organization that paid Bill Clinton speaking fees? And he's on the Board of another entity that routinely partners with the Clinton Foundation? Gee, who knew?
The Nominees for the Most Valuable Player for TGU are the following:
The Public we've got to admire the grit of people who keep showing up to root for their team despite the longest string of losses in recent history, beginning with Bush v Gore. Keep turning out, people. The odds of probability alone say that someday we'll win one
The Republicans in Congress normally the proverbial Bad News Bears, but they do show some signs of improvement, especially in the showmanship category. Who doesn't love Chaffetz sending down subpoenas from the dais, or the gobsmacked look on Trey Gowdy's face as the prosecutorial Earth tilts on its axis directly below his chair? Even Darrel Issa, delivered a solid performance in contrast to his previous bufoonery, with a thundering exposure of the immunity grants containing immunity for destruction, effectively walling off any further efforts to pursue obstruction of justice charges. (Note, we did not notice any Democrats who suited up for this particular game on the side of TGU against TPTB. In fact they all went and sat in TPTB stands.)
Conservative Press Another surprise Nominee. Like the Democrats, most of the supposedly liberally biased MSM sat this one out. TGU found themselves driven to such sources as Fox News, The National Review, the NY Post, the Daily Caller because of the news blackout on the other side. There were some liberal media holdouts who did not sell their souls to the Dems and the DNC in this game, but they were few and far between. The Washington Post with its "Just a Doggone Moment, This Is Out Of Control" op-ed from its Editorial Board cemented that it is now officially In The Tank. The NYT seems to have simply evaporated into a No Compelling Reason To Read outlet.
You have the Nominees, please cast your vote.
__________
I have two public announcements before you leave the stands:
*The Great Unwashed can expect the exhibition games of The Clinton Foundation Investigation and the Congressional Perjury/Obstruction games to be rained out and not to be rescheduled
* Attendance is down and a lot of former fans are asking for refunds and threatening not to show up for The Big Game this November. TPTB know they have to do better and in order to buck up morale have decreed that everyone on the TGU team will receive a participation trophy, a Hope and Change tee-shirt and a kazoo.
______________
Footnote 1 Lillian Hellman Trophy- Why that name for the trophy? The phrase about every word including "and" and "the being a lie" was famously deployed by the writer Mary McCarthy against the writer Lillian Hellman in their bitter and notorious feud. The trophy's name is a historical reference to that event. The feud is literary "inside baseball" and old history but I thought the name for the trophy bore further explanation since it was probably a mystery to many.

Love the fun you had with this!

It was prompted by watching the hearing yesterday
and thinking Game Over and wondering if that was accurate. And yes, I did have a little fun, as no one enjoys wringing a metaphor more than me.

Boy, Phoebe, you keep outdoing yourself like this and you'll have to make sure that you don't get corrupted by the big bucks! (Probably from some European publication or the like, since we seem to have very little journalism remaining in North America.)
Also, no more flying, exercise equipment or walking down any streets on your own!

Thanks Ellen (I think)
Ellen thank you for reading and commenting, I really appreciate it. You often pack so much good stuff into your comments that I wish you would write more essays. Some of your comments are so long and detailed that they should be stand alone essays
I wanted to respond to a part of your comment, but it is not directed at you, so please don't take it personally.
Every once in a while after I write something, someone will read it and commend me for my "courage" or words to a similar effect or make a joke like you make about avoiding small planes, etc.
I find it unnerving that a number of people seem to think that voicing one's opinion on a blog requires some kind of exceptional moral fortitude or courage or bravery or something. I know much of it is joking, but what is the subtext to the joke? In a lot of countries around the world, TPTB do go around silencing voices of opposition, whether they be large or small. Do people actually think that stuff like that happens here? Does voicing an opinion or writing satire require courage? If people really think that, then we are into full blown dictatorship or speech suppression directorate or something.
To my mind there was a time when freedom of speech was heavily suppressed recently - it was in the Bush administration when Ari Fleischer ominously told everyone they needed to be very cautious about what they said or wrote. I don't remember the exact wording and I don't care to look it up now, but I would say the press took it seriously and a lot of people did and self-edited themselves so as not to seen "anti-patriotic" in a time of uber-patriotism such as existed then. Thank God we snapped out of it eventually.
But Ellen's joke masks a more serious question we should be asking ourselves - when so much is going wrong, what explains the incuriosity of so many of our mainstream journalists - is it simply that they care about their paychecks or is it something worse? Why don't we have real publicly funded journalism outlets?

Wait a minute, I thought immunities are handed out in order to
GET prosecutable evidence, not to BURY it.
Seems like every pitch turned out to be a spitball!

Every pitch was a spitball
I've never seen anything like the cognitive dissonance on the faces of the Republicans in the face of what Comey was serving up yesterday. They know the game was thrown, but the big question is , what are they going to do about it? What can they do about it?

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
This will be shared far by other members of TGU
New team name, I like!
Watergate hearings were HS soap opera for me, my first education to Politics. More comity then, more boot-licking now. I am so happy I DemExited, that team is all benched. The Reveals or lack thereof in this case of TGU v. TPTB are indicative of a governmental collapse much slower in time than the fall of N and S towers of WTC.

I think that's how they think of us, so why not embrace it?
It'd be funny as a name for a new 3rd Party.
I agree with you that while I'm making light of this here, there's really nothing funny about seeing your entire system of justice erode in front of your eyes in order to place a single specific candidate in the White House. Imagine who she's going to seed every level of government with - her loyal minions and henchmen.

If the whole system wasn't
If the whole system wasn't already corrupted, this couldn't happen... in any event, she'll be corporate management for as long as TPTB need her, (or until she shorts out or is struck by divine beer-volcano-generated lightning with meatballs on) although I suspect that Bill, (already publicly assigned major tasks - ladies in or near his area, beware the dirty old man with the crooked everything!) various corporate execs and underlings will do everything but maybe some of the ceremonial stuff (and perhaps some light money-laundering, for the ego-exercise,) while any illusion of government is being maintained.
In any event, I won't be personally unwashed until the public water systems here are privatized, sending prices up through the roof, (if we still have one after that point) and a good deal more poisoned than it now is, although that will undoubtedly happen as soon the the corporate coup goes through with the fracking TPP and the Fast-Tracked others.
But since I know that I'm one of a whole bunch of people who are massively pissed off, massively disgusted and massively outraged, can I still also be one of The Masses? I feel pretty massy right now, much as I enjoyed your latest masterwork and various comments. Making light of the darkness is a very good way to help deal with this nightmare and I thank you from the bottom of my heart and all the way up.

My first real inkling that the thing called 'politics' was
important the night my Dad was packing his clothes and was going to leave my Mom because her vote for Stevenson cancelled out his vote for Eisenhower. (He didn't leave us. Not that time anyway.)
But my fascination took hold later...

Kennedy and Nixon square off in a televised presidential debate
*
According to the Museum of Broadcast History, radio listeners considered Nixon’s answers to questions to be more substantive and gave Nixon the advantage over Kennedy after the first debate. By contrast, television viewers gave Kennedy the edge, as their impressions were based on how the candidate looked as much as what he said.

Is it a public or secret vote?
I vote for a public vote. Secret votes will continue to mask those among our ranks who are planted here representing TPTB. Who are you???? Show your avatars!!!
I can't vote for the people. They are way too fickle.
I can't vote for the rethugs. They are in the pockets of the same corporations as her heinous and I cannot trust them to take this to its full extent.
I'm voting for the Conservative Press. Although I have loathed them in the past, I cheer them for their tenacity to deliver this one truth to TGU.
Great essay, Phoebe!
"The “jumpers” reminded us that one day we will all face only one choice and that is how we will die, not how we will live." Chris Hedges on 9/11
I'd prefer a public vote but
we don't have a way to insert a poll here, do we? So, anyone who cares to vote can do it in their comment if they would like to.
I'm torn between Comey and the Republicans.
Comey had two public faces, either pleasant unflappability as he assured the Congress and the public that the sky is orange or he was Mr. Smith, emoting and feeling the first waves of faintness as he defended the professionalism and integrity of the investigation. Also good stagecraft in his opening statement - who is going to question people fighting terrorism and rescuing kidnapped children for Chrissakes?
The Republicans put on a great variety show but like any such show there was a great range in talent. The Chairman came out with a bang and Chaffetz, Gowdy and the surprise Issa were all strong. The low points were the guy talking about college honor codes and the other guy who started off good on equality under the law but ended up chuckling with Comey over what's a little mishandled justice among friends?

Cheryl Mills...
for pulling off the hidden ball trick.
Those emails don't just delete themselves, you know!
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Great play-by-play entertainment, Pheobe L.,
with more than a hint of despair and tragedy. Imagine what reality will look like when the honorable James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, Michelle and Barack Obama, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and all the bit players that made this clusterf..k charade possible, become part of the Hill-$-Bill administration and run the Constitution into the ground. Goodness knows they've had lots of experience and are well prepared.
In order to run the constitution into the ground
they will have to dig it up! I doubt they have the energy after all the back slapping they will do.

Good point.
Someone came down from the stands and got on the field. That is a remarkable moment. That person affected history in some small way. If anything larger were to come from her Nancy Drew Reddit detection, she could be like the security guard who noticed the tape on the door in Watergate.
This nothingburger has come to evolve over time to the point where the credibility of the President is in question, the credibility of the AG is in question, the credibility of the DOJ is in question, and the credibility of the FBI is in question.
The people whose credibility is not in question are HRC and the Democrats and the DNC. We know they have none and that they will literally do almost anything to attain and retain power.

Where is my kazoo dammit?
And my tee shirt!
glitterscale
Well we just discovered that the Kazoos were made in China
and unfortunately lead paint was used in their production and they've been recalled.
The tee shirt production is running a little behind because each one is being handmade through microloans to newly empowered women entrepreneurs in the Third World through a joint program between USAID and the Clinton Foundation. We anticipate delivery in early 2019.

I usually research my links before using them. I used the miniplanet link originally because someone else did in another post. But in looking them up I can find zero information and this seems to be about the only information associated with them. While I have never linked to Breitbart before, this appears to be a fact-based article.
