That makes it all better.
In response to the shitstorm Hillary created by referring to "half" of Trump supporters as "baskets of deplorable", Hillary has issued her typical nopology. She "regrets" using "half"; it was a "mistake" to generalize so. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/10/hillary-clinton-basket-o...
Yeah, cause what she said was soooo much better when, in an earlier Israeli tv interview, she said "put Trump supporters into 2 baskets", ones a "basket of deplorables". https://youtu.be/GPbH5G0nSSA
(Steven D, cover your ears). I am fucking tired of hearing this fucking bitch say that she "regrets" "mistakes". Bitch, no you don't. You "regret" getting caught. I don't care what you privately think of trump supporters, of Bernie supporters, of Obama supporters in 2008 (because they, too, had the audacity not to vote for you) you never insult voters that way. Not if you want to get elected. This isn't not "being a natural politician". This is being a truly heinous, arrogant human being, and I think "human being" is being generous.
Maybe by some god damned miracle (or more likely election fraud) you become president. You think the republicans don't consider obama's presidency to be legitimate? You ain't seen nothing yet.

You know how it is
You gotta pander to the right come the election months, no matter how far right it is. That's why Hillary should be uploaded into a cyborg body, and be our first fembot president empress for eternity, because she knows how to get things pandered.
She's definitely a
Panderoo.

Someone asked pre Ides Edict over at TOP a question about what people who deal in facts and past policies are supposed to do if Her Heinous gets the nomination (or something like that).
I replied that [Hillbots] expect us to be assimilated into the Cyborg.
It's no longer sci-fi, but real life.

Figure this out
I have no idea how anyone could jump to this conclusion, but they are having a pie fight over whether Hillary should have apologized or not.
Fun times over there.
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
It is easier than you think as that
was my first thoughts also, and it is exactly what she said (HRC 'expressed regret for “saying ‘half’”, adding: “That was wrong.”')and exactly what she meant.
That was not an apology. That was digging the well deeper.

So, I guess that 80-90-100% of Republican voters
could be deplorable.

She thinks we're ALL deplorable
Even her own voters. Any 'little' people. I think she even hates those in her inner circle who care for her. I believe she's a misanthrope as well as a sociopath.

The above comment was in response to the usual claim that HRC is a lovely person in private.

Scarborough has said that. Scarborough is a multi-millionaire
with a job that gives him some power over politicians. So, yes, I am sure she was charming to him. Besides, if half the stories, even from her supporters, are true, she is well-lubricated when socializing "privately."
Righteous rant, Leu!
I regret that we ever heard of the Clintons. They are a pimple on America's ass, which needs to be popped so the infection inside can be cleaned out. Yes, I said that with NO regrets!

This is her way of making her supporters feel superior...
by dehumanizing a large swath of the country. They can take comfort in that she does not consider them deplorable; however, I doubt that is actually the case. This is classism. She does not care if they are bigoted or xenophobic, she cares that they do not see her as she sees herself.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.--Aristotle
If there is no struggle there is no progress.--Frederick Douglass
And from what I can see her fans are lapping it up.
Talk about spiking the ball!
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
From the woman who gave us Obama boys and Bernie Bros, we get
Trump deplorables. She also gave us super predators, the Democratic equivalent of "welfare queens" and two primary campaigns for President rife with highly divisive, identity politics. Why is anyone shocked?
I am, however, surprised that she did not come up with a male term for Trump's supporters to, you know, imply people oppose her only because they're sexist and, as to Obama boys, only heaven knows what else.
Of course, in 2008, her campaign was to appeal to "hard-working white people," while in 2016, she was the hot-sauce toting abuela of Hispanics and the Martin Luther King, Jr. of black people, so she had to flip her riff, but divide and conquer, plus pander, was her strategy both times. The second time, however, media and almost every Democratic officeholder in the country aided and abetted her, possibly along with primary vote counters, mechanical and not.
That's quite a balancing act you describe, Henry
How can the tone-deaf queen of sleaze remember to do all of these things at one time? I mean, like being the best friend blacks ever had while calling their offspring super-predators. Maybe it's Abuela's secret recipe hot-sauce that's making her cough so much. Well, she forgot one constituency big-time, those "hard-working white people" of whom she nows says many (some, most, all?) are despicable, horrible racist xenophobes.
Now Hiding Hillary has a terrible dilemma, which I think might first have been enunciated by Eleanor Roosevelt: "it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and let people know you are an idiot".
It's also been attributed to Mark Twain :-)
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Her focus is on getting elected, not on being consistent or
telling the truth, etc. I only wish we were as laser focused on getting what we want, but I don't think we should be willing to say or do anything at all to get us there.
Hillary does not "get" it
The problem with her statement was not the word "half." The problem with her statement was that she made it at all. She insulted voters, known as American citizens. How can she profess to be the President of the United States if she obviously does not care about at least half of Trump's supporters and all of the people who voted for Sanders in the Democratic primaries? She is disgusting and deplorable herself.
Hillary may have other physical problems, but her real problem is something called "hubris" for which there is no cure.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
But there *is* a cure!
IIRC (and it's been a long time since my English degree), hubris is a classic tragic flaw. And, as with most tragic flaws, it will ultimately lead to the protagonist's demise ...
(Sooner rather than later, we can hope).
We are all going to "demise" because conception
is terminal, sooner or later. However, she will demise after having attained high offices and having been nominated for POTUS, maybe even after having been POTUS. I am not sure how tragic that is for her. For us, yes. For her, no.
She will indeed represent rightist voters, whether or not
rightist voters who are also Republicans can see or admit that. And so, the nation will take another umbrella step to the right. I am much less confident that she will represent anyone but rightist voters.
Fractions. She's worried about the fractions,
not the dehumanizing insult. "Maybe if I had said a fourth, it would have been better for me."
"Maybe a third".
I am not and never will be "with her".
I absolutely do not want to be associated with her in any way.

FSC's remarks,
Here's an excerpt from a WaPo piece, 'Clinton says she regrets labeling ‘half’ of Trump supporters ‘deplorable’
You see, this matters to Elites who apparently see her words as less insulting than Romney's, since she only denigrated about one-quarter of the electorate! (as opposed to almost half, or 47%)
Whew!

Or, "To be hypocritical, given my own history...."
WashPost very specific about why she's walking it back
"After negative reaction from Republicans to her comments at a fundraiser — where she claimed "half" of the GOP candidate's camp fit into a "basket" that includes racists and homophobes — Hillary Clinton tried to clarify her remarks. "
No negative comments - then she's fine with the shit she said.
There is NOTHING, not a thing which matters, except getting elected POTUS. That's all she's got.
I wish, almost pray, a gutsy journalist would ask her the following question: " Mrs. Clinton, we have all read your long resume, but, and this is more important than anything else, could you please tell us the FIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS of the past ten years of which you are most proud. You see, it's difficult to understand what you have actually accomplished. You are attacking Donald Trump, saying how "dangerous" he is, but there is no sense of what YOU have accomplished. So, again, what the FIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS of the past 10 years of which you are most proud. Thank you."
How about just asking for one accomplishment--
other than starting wars?
Nope, AE
I wanna hear FIVE.
Isn't it amazing - how little she has accomplished.
Chelsea, she who still looks so much like Webb Hubbell even after her plastic surgery ( seriously, a comparison of pictures is worth more than a thousand words) uses the word "Hillarycare" to describe the abomination of what her mother mangled, messed up, as an un-elected individual, setting back the whole issue of health care.
SO, five. Without stumbles, hems, haws, repeats...
AMEN.
But no one will actually ask that. Because journalism is dead.
I just clicked on Huffpo
"BACKBONE!"
Celebrating her calling them out.
Why, then, is she walking it back if it is such a courageous stand for her to take?
She needs to coordinate her message better with TOP, Huffpo, et al...

TOP has 3 diaries about it
And as you can imagine, they think what she said about his supporters was great and one person thinks Hillary saying that she regrets saying h'half' actually means 'more'.
My comment above wasn't clear I don't think.
Some people over there are saying that she shouldn't have said that yesterday and they are getting dog piled.
If one isn't part of the echo chamber, then they get hammered.
And these are her supporters fighting with each other.
I just shook my head as I read the comments.

Looked at quantcast
last week. From circa 3M visitors before the ides of March to about 1.2M recently.
Sure, some of that is from leaving people who were, or knew they would be, hounded there. But the purges will continue. It's more like a cult site over there. The irony is what made the place was its anti-status quo patina. plus there used to be real world analysis done intelligently.
Now, unless you want a dose of 'all is good with Hillary-world' with a 'Trump is bad bad bad' appetizer... The place is just insanely boring and irrelevant.
Some environment and local action pieces are the only thing to read and not be wasting time.

Speaking of regrets and mistakes
Hillary has said that her vote for the Iraq war was a mistake, voting for the bankruptcy bill was a mistake, using a private email server was a mistake, and then there's her regrets.
I saw this on Twitter. It's a list of her mistakes and regrets.

but never any consequences. Do I sense crocodile tears?
She's led a charmed life.

These things were not "mistakes"
because they were done deliberately. Hey, did Hitler make "mistakes"? Did Jeffrey Dahmer? Did Stalin? Hillary keeps using that word "mistake." I do not think it means what she thinks it means.
Twain Disciple
It's what her supporters accept.
I don't know how many times I've seen someone write that she has owned up to her mistake so move on.
Back to her statement a prominent diarist on DK keeps tweeting this statement
I want to reply back that if you vote for Hillary Clinton, you're supporting the wars that she is going to extend, the ones that she is going to start, and every civilian that dies because you voted for Hillary is on your hands.
Not every Hillary supporter is a warmonger, but if you vote for Hillary you are supporting a warmonger whether you think you are or not.

Somehow, many people think that logic only works one way.
Disagree with them, you’re morally responsible for everything your choice of candidate is and does.
Agree with them, it doesn’t matter what the candidate is or does; morally you’re off scot-free.
Weird.
I didn't see Hillary rejecting the delegates
She won in WV in 2008. And we damn well know why she won WV 56-27. And it wasn't because her policy positions were so much better than Obama's. Especially when Bernie kicked her butt in the same state in 2016.
Only the deplorable commit crimes

Meh. Ten examples out of thirty-odd years isn't much.
I also think video has more of an impact on most people.

Almost forget, read that these were 'prepared remarks'--

I know I am going to get piled on here,
but I really don't see what the big deal is. For once, I agree with something Hillary Clinton said. (It happens about once per month, on average.)
Without ripping me a new one, can someone please tell me why this is wrong or bad? For the record, I also agreed with Obama in '08 when he said that some conservatives cling to guns and religion. Because they do.
Thanks in advance for not calling me a horrible person, etc.
I miss Colorado.
Bad politicking....
Especially if you're hoping for Republican donors/votes. "Misguided" might be a useful adjective, but "Deplorable" to describe a goodly sized swathe of the voting public/fellow citizens?
If Trump is essentially matching HRC in the polls, more than the 'Alt Right' is supporting him.

I don't like too many Republicans, lol.
So ... if the shoe fits and all that. But people, like the diarist and many of the commenters in this thread, seem extremely offended by it when I am almost positive she wasn't talking about them.
I tend to think that a good chunk of the Republican electorate is racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., but I don't know if I'd say "half".
But probably a solid third.
"Deplorable" is harsh, but I can think of worse terms. Racist, sexist, and homophobic people are maybe not deplorable to me, per se, but I definitely don't wanna hang out with 'em.
I miss Colorado.
I interpreted her comment to
I interpreted her comment to be a very derogatory slam against the working class high school educated demographic that is supporting Trump. Come January, if she has her way, Hillary will be President of those "deplorables" with the power to enact policies that make their lives even worse off.
We Narnia buffs, we recognize this: the Deplorable Word.
Symbolically and psychologically, Hillary’s running for Ruler of Charn.
This is how neoliberal identity politics works.
These politicians don't stick to the issues or even focus on their opponent. They attack the voters. Stupid, stupid, stupid. This is the exact same shit she did to us and Bernie. She wants to shame and humiliate them as a "basket of deplorables" while empowering her own supporters with a sense of righteous moral indignation. Her message is "Hey, you don't want to be a racist/sexist/homophobe/xenophobe, right? If you're not one of those things, you better vote for me!" It's such shallow, binary bullshit that further divides the country.
It's about pitting one group against another. She's using code for "poor, white, working class men" because that's what the stereotype is, the same way that conservatives use words like "urban" or "inner city" to talk about African Americans and "law and order" to disguise institutional racism. It's absolutely disgusting.
Exactly.
as a reminder to all, this was a LGTB fundraiser.
I agree, totally. Same old
I agree, totally. Same old deflect and divide. We can't hope to see and respond to the hijacking of our country and the world if we continue to fall for such tactics.
