Interesting: Bernie did NOT nominate Clinton by Acclamation

It was FUDGE who repeated what Bernie said AS IF he did that, but here MSNBC looks at his exact wording:

This video has been removed from the MSNBC site, but I found another copy: https://search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&type=C211US91035D20151113&p=yo...

You'll note it says: "Sanders fudges acclamation line for Clinton nomination" - this was a pun, because it was Fudge who called for Clinton to be nominated by acclamation was done by Fudge, not by Sanders. It would seem, however, that this was intentional.

Here's what Rachel Maddow reads of Bernie's words (I don't have the video of him saying it handy):

Thank you Madam Chair. I move that the convention suspend the procedural rules. I move that all votes cast by the delegates be reflected in the official record, and I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for President of the United States.

Here is Fudge's line:

“Senator Sanders has moved in the spirit of unity to suspend the rules …to suspend the rules and nominate Hillary Clinton by acclamation as the presidential candidate of the Democratic party.”

ALL OF BERNIE'S VOTES WERE PRESERVED FOR THE FUTURE!
"I move that the vote be recorded" (so all votes are counted).

I can't tell you have relieved I am to learn this!

https://www.facebook.com/notes/real-progressives/dont-discount-bernie-ju...

Beginning with last nite’s DNC roll call. While many people thought that Bernie conceded to HRC, he in fact did NOT. He did not release his delegates to HRC. What he did do was force recording of ALL delegate votes, thus establishing both his totals and HRC’s. The significance of this is that if anything were to happen between now and November to force HRC to abandon her campaign, he would be the only one with the most (indeed the ONLY) Democratic delegates at such a point.

Furthermore, in critical contrast to what the convention Chair said, Bernie did NOT call for HRC's nomination to be called “by acclamation” (i.e. "unanimously"). What he said was, “Madam Chair, I move that the convention suspend the procedural rules. I move that all votes…all votes cast by delegates be reflected in the official record and I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee for the Democratic party of the United States.” After waving to the crowd, he and Jane turned around and walked out. (Notice that he did NOT even say the words “I nominate…”. Wink )

This SHOULD mean that if we have a surprise and HRC is disqualified, Bernie will be the replacement nominee. Whew.

There is no justice. There can be no peace.

Bernie knows exactly what he's doing and the best way to leave the route open to get there. If one attempt doesn't work, he tries another - always working toward a public good. What an amazing President he'd make! And what a hopeful change that would be, from the reverse situation!

There are so unicorns. They normally just aren't visible because Bernie keeps them up his sleeve, where nobody can squish them to make them extinct before they come out strong.

Somebody told me he released his delegates to her and nominated her and the whole ball of wax. I know it's splitting hairs in a way, but I am glad that Bernie made it more ambiguous than that. I should not let people in meat space tell me stuff b/c they are usually repeating the lying corp media, but once I was done with Bernie's speech on Monday night, I couldn't bear to watch any more of the DNC shitshow.

But it's enlightening that even at that moment the Dems in charge were playing a sleight of hand and and utilizing both dishonesty and subterfuge. They have disgusted me so much during this election that I have a hard time watching any Democratic talking head on TV, regardless of who they are, they have all lost credibility with me because my take away is that they all know how things are working here and they are all part of dismantling the mechanics of our electoral system, whether it's vote suppression, or Party machinations, or propaganda, or dirty tricks or any one of the other things they are deploying from their toolbox. I will restate, I have no interest in reforming the Party from within because it is one giant stinking cesspool.

Maybe the Dems were always this way, only now that they've co-opted the sane part of the Republican party, donors and all, they're arrogant enough now not to care if their underpants are showing?

Exactly what I heard, and said so here, wondering why everyone was jumping on Bernie. Bernie's convention speech was brilliant. One of my bud's who is a strong HRC supporter - loves Hillary - whined and moaned that "Bernie is just giving his stump speech, he's not giving Hillary any love. Sore loser... " And, indeed, that is exactly what he was doing. His speech was directed at his supporters. "We believe in a living wage, and Hillary supports that... " He rattled off a laundry list of what Hillary "supported," saying, "and Hillary supports that," Knowing Damn Well She Does Not. His speech did two things. One, put Hillary "on record" of "supporting" progressive issues she does not, essentially giving her a poke in the eye, and, two, put "on record" before the people of the USA exactly who he is and what he supports. Something "The Press" did their damndest to make sure mom and pop American did not hear during the campaign. "He's not giving Hillary any love... {sniff}." Indeed, he did not. Brilliant.

about a particular bit which was not an endorsement: this is about just the very part at the end of the roll call which was his pointing the vote toward her being deemed to have the official Nomination. She is now the Nominee of the Democratic Party.

It appears -to me at any rate- that in the way he did so, he preserved his rights to be next in line should something happen to the Dem candidate between now and November 8th.

I was floored when it came out that way, and I knew it meant something, but I wasn't sure what.

Glad to see MSNBC acknowledge it was done 'differently', though they of course didn't say why it was important.

I downloaded/saved that video, btw. If we have anything that specifically shows Bernie saying the words quoted, we should save that one too....

happened on Tues. or Wed. I only watched Monday. I heard Bernie's speech on Monday and that's all I needed to hear. I knew he was still "in it," as far as "his" revolution went. Whatever else happened during the convention was out of his (and our) hands. I'm not sure what significance there was /is in the roll call. Did Bernie give his delegates to Hillary? So confusing.

on how Bernie and Jane turned and walked out after Bernie recommended HRC's nomination.

Wasn't that unusual? You would think normally a person would stand around and cheer etc. after saying such.

And didn't Berrnie delegates walk out right with him? It wasn't covered by the MSMl, and I'm having trouble finding footage of the walkout from inside the convention center so I'm not clear on the timing of it all.

But it is clear that as soon as Bernie finished talking, he turned on his heel and WALKED OUT! No one commented.

Josh (Jeff?) Fox may have covered it. I believe 800 Bernie delegates walked out then after Bernie & Jane did. They began using seat fillers to fill the hall. There were lots of shots here Tues night of how empty the hsll was... And Weds(?) morn, the MSDNC folks could not say often enough how very, very FULL the hall was to hear Bill whatever night he was.

DONE. Dr. Stein has my vote, and dragging out the "Oh, but they MIGHT go for Bernie if the stars are right..." period just is annoying to me.

Just to mention - Bernie took his chance, won the nomination against all created odds, had this stolen by a vast and globally powerfully corporate/billionaire machine and still managed to keep that chance open.

Bernie is noted for achieving what was thought impossible and he's still doing it.

Your vote is, of course, your own and personally I'm all for building up the Green Party and for electing President Stein failing a Bernie miracle but I can only say that my faith Berns forever, and that a potential of a US President like Bernie is a miracle in itself, one which has never occurred before and will certainly have no chance to ever occur again, if any of the corporate party candidates gains the Presidency and life on Earth is exterminated by corporate greed and military rapaciousness well within this century.

what they did or what he's up to or even his intentions. He did what he did and god knows why. I just think it's a big waste to be so focused on Bernie. He's a pol not Moses. I sure am not betting on her being replaced. The movement that Bernie gave voice to was thoroughly rejected by the Democratic establishment including the so called progressive. I say take what we have gathered from coincidence and use it to form coalitions outside the gates of the Dem. party.

I think it's pretty amazing that a large number of the people in this (ours not his) movement, young, old and in between are not about to quit and surcome to fear. Rightfully Bernie won. He chose not to fight on whatever his reasons. I'm glad he and his family are alive too. However waiting for the Third Way ship and Hillary to go down is not going to happen in this election cycle.

I saw what these people including Obama did to Kucinich and then Bernie. I do not blame Bernie he did what he felt was right. That's okay. I do think that hanging on to Bernie instead of facing what were up against is a big waste of time and emotional energy. He's not going to be the undisputed replacement even if on the odd chance she gets ousted by the Clinton's criminal undertakings. The criminal political duopoly who run and own our government is not about to let the likes of Bernie's movement take power.

I understand your pain but hey get a grip. The fact that he is when all is said and done willing to endorse and throw his support to defeat the really scarier evil is nothing I want to follow. Why not face the music and deal with what we are really facing and look for another way to take these fuckers down. I respect Bernie but I cannot hold on to the projected belief that says he's got unicorns up his sleeve or that the system we face is about to take The Mad bomber out.

Do you really think our dead as a doornail justice system is going to indite the Clintons? Why would they? They have got the public where they them. Full of fear and loathing which will quell the discontent of ordinary people. Not to mention the fact that Bernie himself is validating their sick world agenda. Better then or lesser evil is not enough when you look at what we the people and the planet are really facing.

full credit for what he has done. I thank him for showing millions of people what is going on. I thank him for over the years telling the truth to power. I always loved his posts on dkos back in the day. I just can't hang on to a pocket full of empty hope as I have seen with my lying eyes what the Democratic party is about. I have no problem with people who think or believe that the only solution is via the duopoly of R's and D's. Me I'm moving on. I'm not throwing Bernie under the bus as I do not ride that bus any more. The fascistic Democratic Hillary Show convention was creepy and it made me sad to watch Bernie's participation. I'm just not into pols or leaders having gotten bait and switched by the PR con man Obama. I'm trying to say Bernie is not important what's important is the movement of people across the country who he gave voice to. Movements need to keep moving and at this time I believe they will.
