Has the Clinton Crumble started?
Despite a compliant (obsequious?) MSM conducting 24x7 Trump bashing for much of June, Hillary Clinton has not managed to secure a solid lead in presidential polling. It's almost as though voters don't like her.
Yesterday saw a new Quinnipiac poll that had Clinton leading Trump by a whopping 42% to 40%. Qunnipiac Poll
Today reveals a new Rasmussen poll with Trump leading Clinton by 43% to 39%. Rasmussen Poll
While two polls is not much of a trend and the two candidates are still essentially tied, this must be viewed as shocking news for the Clinton campaign. (EdG note: They'll blame it on Bernie, of course.) With her vaunted cash lead, institutional backers, name recognition, and much ballyhooed minority support, Clinton should be trouncing Trump.
But as we witnessed in 2008, Clinton is not much of a campaigner, and her inherent character flaws turn many voters off. It's certainly shaping up as an interesting election. If the outcome weren't so deadly serious, I'd be enjoying the spectacle very much.

I just hope the Clinton self-absorption
doesn't end up bringing us all down in the end.
Beware the bullshit factories.
Not if we leave her first.
Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
Drop a House on her !
Maybe she will hold a press conference....wait a minute
You are on the money, she is a terrible candidate, person, and campaigner- no focus and gets easily distracted. Even though Trump is terrible as well, he is fearless and foolish and unconventional- so she does not know how to handle him. Also, he defeated 16 (at least 8 of which were viable) other candidates to secure his nominee. My guess is she not be able to pull away from him, and continue to limp along hoping to scare voters to vote for her.
One other note, she does not have super delegates to save her ass during the general election.
Press conference? Hideaway Hillary?
That seems unlikely, considering she has not done a press conference in more than 200 days.
I know that was my point (was trying to be sarky)
I agree, if she was such a great candidate and has nothing to hide do press conferences.
Hell if the wild person Trump, does press conferences all the time. He even had a rolling press conference (for all 18 holes) at golf course in Scotland last week.
I do not care for either person, but I give him props, Trump is not afraid.
This election is about fear, vote for the candidate that is the biggest fear monger and afraid of their own shadow- Clinton!
Drumpf knows his audience, knows how to get a reaction
That's what must be the "secret" of "reality TV" shows, I suspect. [I dunno. I never watched them, just saw previews when I still had my TV on, refused to watch any of the "reality TV" shows on the basis that the ads were ridiculously stupid; I assumed each was a scripted farce if the ads were any example.]
I loathe Drumpf as much as I loathe $Hillary, but at least he has one thing in his favor: he's against TPP (for now), and he says he doesn't like wars (whether true or not, I suspect they cut into profits in exotic locations where he'd like to put his name on luxury hotels and properties, and Drumpf values profits above wars).
Drumpf could get the votes from the "Anybody but $Hillary" people (if those votes do not go to Bernie, that is).

Don't count on it.
Quite a few of the Secretaries of State in swing states are republican.
And note well how many Republicans are endorsing her
The big money wants her, and they control the machines-you don't even need a complicit SoS.
And nearly 1/5 (18%) of voters for neither.
That I think is a huge tell that there is a problem. I expect that number will go up in the coming months IF both of them turn out to be the nominees.
Considering that Trump has yet to spend any money on the GE, the current polls could provide an indicator of what is going to happen if the Republican Party can get their shit together. I admit that will be difficult for them as he is more left wing than they like.

A robo call from Clinton
I've gotten 2 robocalls that are just awful and speak to the fact that she is a bad campaigner, and just hard to like. The call starts out in a gruff, slightly yelling voice, saying something about (roughly, I don't recall) "We cannot let Donald Trump near the Oval Office." Something else, BLAH BLAH BLAH, rough and stern.
That's how it immediately starts. No "Hello." No "Hello, this is Hillary Clinton." The first time I got it I didn't even recognize her. I think I was too startled by it. Then another voice cuts in: "We at the Clinton Campaign..." That's when I hang up.
All they have is "Donald is bad."
Seriously, it's bizarre and unattractive. I don't think I feel this way just because I don't like her. It's harsh and weird. Anybody else get this call?
Hillary's presence in this election is helping Trump

HRC has never won a difficult election
Her senate campaigns in NY were pretty much walks in the park and to my knowledge they are the only two campaigns she has won. In 2008 she blew a lead.
Her 2000 Senate campaign
Hillary's opponent, Rudy Giuliani, dropped out mid-campaign because his personal life had turned into a soap opera. He was replaced by a little known congressman from Long Island. Hillary ended up running 5 points behind Al Gore in the state of New York in that election.
Numbers
As chuck toad recently stated... "Her numbers NEVER go up.

I got the same call
For the first call from HRC, I hung up almost immediately since it was so harsh. It sounded more like screaming. Then I got a second one (same phone #). I listened to see if I could opt-out of future calls. Luckily, pressing #9 took care of the problem. However, the HRC campaign can change the campaign name, and I'll have to do it again. I've noticed that Clinton has many different campaigns and super pacs, so I'm on alert for more calls.
Got a live person call
From the Clinton Victory Fund. I have no idea how they got my number because I've never donated until Bernie, and only registered as a Democrat so I could caucus for Bernie. (Back to non-affiliated status already.)
Told the lady I wasn't sure I'd even vote at all because as far as I could tell the whole thing is rigged. She asked "By Hillary?" I said, by whoever the PTB wants in office. She actually seemed a little distressed by my answers - wonder if she's getting a lot of that?
If that happens to me
I'm going to wish that I had a workingcredit card number belonging to D. Trump. I'd make a generous contribution.

are managing to make Trump more like one of "us"? He has had financial woes; the cards are stacked against him; he is not really rich either. As long as he keeps low key, they are making him just the regular guy from down the street.

I've been getting them once a day.
It's a horrible sounding call. I expect low-info voters would just say "I don't want to hear that for 4 years" and choose Trump.
I wonder, given that
What kind of hyperventilating will go on when the Republicans replace him with someone like Kasich? Because then she'll have nothing and she can't beat him; I have doubts she could even keep it close enough to steal.
And as noted above, she'll have no superdelegates to bail her out.
Something I find interesting is that the superdelegates were put in place to prevent the nomination of candidates who couldn't win the general. Rather ironic that turns out to be the establishment candidate, not the grassroots candidate.
I suppose they'll just unskew the polls and nosedive off that cliff together. I really wish Bernie would take up Dr. Stein on her offer; I know he can beat them both.

Anybody else get this call?
Many times, unfortunately. You're absolutely right - even if I were a Hillary supporter, I would have to say that it is a complete loser of a tactic. In fact, most of the time she has started "talking" even before I have the phone to my ear - so I'm coming in already in the middle of a sentence. This is what happens when your entire campaign staff consists of sycophants and grifters. My local Mayor has a more professional campaign staff than Hillary.
The sad irony of this election is that the Democrats have nominated the only candidate who could manage to lose to Donald Trump. While the Republicans have nominated the only candidate who could manage to lose to Hillary Clinton. I think this is called "hitting rock bottom".

The media narrative
The media narrative says Trump is running a hopeless campaign. OTOH the national polls are mostly tied within the margin of error between the two leading candidates. I know the Electoral College favors the Dem nominee (whether Bernie or Hillary), but still this is puzzling how close they are. PPP asked if anybody wanted a "giant meteor" to hit the Earth instead of either candidate winning (they meant meteorite), and 13 percent said yes, with a bunch more undecided.
"We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
Thanks for that
That meteorite polling question sounds like a perfect political cartoon...if only I were artistic.

The Electoral College may favor the Dems
But the Rethugs are the experts at voter suppression and flipping the results of voting machines. I know the Dems had some practice against Bernie, but they are novices at voter fraud when you compare the two. In the GE the pros have the advantage and I unfortunately think we may be looking at Drumpf in the Oval Office, if history is any lesson. All he has to do is keep it close. Her massive unfavorables will help him do just that.

What Digby (Didn't) Say
is that Digby has been a lesser-evilist Hillary cheerleader all primary season, and now all she has to give us is Trump is bad, Trump is bad. Fear, guilt, and fear. Not very compelling to read her anymore. The more Hillary's corruption and entitlement comes bubbling to the surface, the more white Digby's knuckles get on the railing, as she grips tighter and chants, Trump is bad, Trump is evil, Trump is Hitler!
And of course, Trump IS bad, but what about Hillary? Who is more likely to sign TPP, more likely to back Israel no matter what, more likely to cut/privatize Social Security, and more indebted to the Wall Street forces trying to buy influence? So pick your poison. Digby ignores her own small role in bringing us this craptastic situation.
Re: "Bubbling to the surface"

I have not read any of her stuff in a good while now. I only see her on Salon, don't do the blog, but the titles alone have turned me completely off. And you're so right, its all FEAR of Trump, all the time. No thanks.

She is not trusted by the
She is not trusted by the public. When Hank Paulson says Trump cannot be trusted to cut social programs combined with the Clinton's record we know what to expect. On the heels of NAFTA, Welfare Reform, Crime Bill and Glass-Stegall expect them to lead the charge to cut Social Security and Medicare. It is a done deal with power brokers on Wall Street.
Combine that with their disregard for law, they are the worst pair to hit the the political scene in US History. I will vote for Sanders or Stein if they do not make it, a controlled Trump would be better than uncontrolled Clinton's.
Exactly.
It will take a Democrat to cut SS & Medicare, and a Clinton is the perfect person for the job.

The trend lines certainly aren't in her favor.
Hillary's been seesawing back and forth for the last month, which means that her support is weak at best. The fact that she could even potentially lose to Trump considering how high his unfavorables are is mind boggling. In fact, the polling seems to indicate that both of them are slowly losing ground at different rates and that Johnson and Stein are gaining support. That's very bad news for Clinton if one subscribes to Lawrence O' Donnell's observation that "her numbers never go up."
Her numbers never go up
She is SMART enough to avoid debates as long as she can because the more people hear her, the more they dislike her. Trump, for all his buffoonery will shred her in debate--no matter what the topic. In real-time, she is a complete fuck-up speaking to us 99ers.
Rasmussen polls lean right
IIRC Rasmussen's polls tend to lean conservative. That being said, the fact that she can't seal the deal and pull comfortably ahead against Trump of all people is definitely a problem IMO.
