Photography Assignment

Boring

This may be a bit tougher than some of the previous ones. The idea is to make an interesting photograph out of what many would consider to be a boring, or at least average subject.
An image search for photographs by Edward Weston could provide a good jumping off point - he had an incredible eye and could find the photograph in just about anything. For a very different approach to the everyday do a search for William Eggleston.

Also think in terms of light. It is worth going outside just before sunrise and looking around - in this light just about anything looks good. Try a close up shot of a fire hydrant in this light if you are skeptical.
For an altogether different approach take a photo of something mundane then see what you can do in the editing process to make it interesting (this one is a bit tougher imo).

Another possibility is to illustrate a situation that is boring e.g. a long wait -thanks Bollox Ref for that one.

These assignments are posted in conjunction with Friday Night Photography Open Thread.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Such a capable artist should be exhibiting at a gallery, not stuck in the pokey.

The "footprints in the sky" picture reminds me of one I took at the beach in spring. I happened to catch this:

04-13-11_sky.jpg

The picture doesn't do it justice. There was this odd-shaped, rainbow cloud (look at the bottom center of the picture where the two clouds intersect.)

I took this on after a hard rain at a retention pond. Those are marble-sized pieces of granite at the top of each column. The rain had washed away all the dirt except directly under the rocks.

This one is the aftermath of a nearby wildfire a couple of years ago. Everything in the area ended covered with a fine coating of ash.

to find a favorite in so many exquisite shots, but the red bug on paper is an amazing catch (am pretty sure that's a box elder beetle). Teri's bread slicer looks like an interesting story as well a photo. Is that '37 your namesake?

share what I would take if I had opportunity.

I thought it would be interesting to see the pattern of row after row of people crammed into an airplane. Here's what I found: A military plane; given the sameness, the pattern becomes perhaps even more intriguing.
