MO's out of the country right now and is unable to login and comment on this site. With her approval the following is her response to the Why I Avoid Reddit essay:
it is an interesting thread though i cannot log in to reply, nor is it needed. great though to see so many i like again. i understand trepidation about reddit and take no offense; i think we have very in depth conversations at times bit quite simply are more like twitter-plus than a blog. i hope we co-create a blog when we return. the main difference i think is not format or membership but purpose? i never wanted to be a primarily academic space but a praxis-driven one. as an academic irl, i realize there come a time when education needs to become action. i teach philosophy part-time, and i realize once you define some provisional concept of justice, it winds up looking lovely on the shelf until you take the ideas, half-baked or in full, and deploy them into the world. i also believe we are all truly equal here... because we are. how we mod well has a lot to do with usually leaving everything alone as much as possible and curving our bodies with the site. i also love the new folks here who are learning because reddit is not known for quality discourse, but there is no reason it cannot have that, especially if you show people we can talk without being elitists and share ideas rather than beat one another down w them. i think a revolution requires not only waking up but also taking action in the world, agsin, praxis.

Hope it is a fun trip that MO is on. I for one like your Reddit site. As far as Reddit goes in general, it is very big and easy to feel lost in. The good thing about Reddit is that like a condo, the expense and maintenance of the structure belongs to someone else. Here the maintenance is pretty extensive and requires money to support it. We are about ready to kick off another fund raising campaign to cover costs. Nothing in life is free except maybe Reddit.

MO lured me over there and I ventured out to learn that it's even worse than I feared.
As an Oasis will, it is attracting folks and some really good ones are staying. MO & Co. do an admirable (unmatched as far as I can tell) job of sustaining it.
I don't understand
There was absolutely no criticism of K4S or MO in the other essay. There was heaps of praise! What is this post about? There is nothing divisive between c99 and k4s...no bad blood.
I visit k4s several times a day...and frequent posters there are also pleasantly surprised over the quality of that subreddit compared to others.

Just saying hello. A niceoment of synchronicity, seized upon, is all, to send good thoughts and reply since there was some discussion about what I thought of Reddit, and I couldn't initially access here, and many other sites, on my phone -- until I messed w settings. So just kind of looked and felt warmth not chilled and replied with that feeling and perception.

Hey, FWIW, I found your MMT series very helpful. I just mention because you didn't get much feedback at the time. It takes a while to wrap your head around that stuff.

I think I am relatively plain spoken. I try to be, Nietzsche's point about the flaws of language aside, I really try to be clear and if am not, will answer honestly. Deep belief in honesty and just tend to wish everyone didnt dance around so much but said what they meant, period. Or if undure, asked questions. why not?

and is unable to login here at the moment, was able to read the full post, and imho responded to it in a very positive way, even suggesting a joint endeavor between K4S & C99. As you say, and MO appears to echo in her response, 'there is nothing divisive between c99 and k4s...no bad blood'.
And I'm sorry that I can't help you with finding the beef, I've been a vegetarian for the past 35 years.

I am sending my love and fiddled w phone settings to see what was keeping me from logging in! Was blocking many sites. Got it! Thanks for posting since cannot cut and paste either, mjsmeme. But yes, glad to be able to say this to C99... so many of my favorite posters are here too. Dont mind reddit. Good infrastructure, although more of an aggregator like Twitter. We are a subreddit, not "Reddit" which is like a website vs the internet. Good convo ( better than my hunt and peck on phone). Anyways I love that new redditors are learning more from us old hats there honrstly. And we are a great community who have weird dtuff posted bc we dont censor much at all... although community likes rules more than I do so I defer to them. Well greetings from Stockholm! Been here a while now. Interesting to see a highly taxed country so little economic disparity. I have seen one homeless person here on a city of a million. However there are hundreds of displaced Romani living in subway. No refugees. Told they were settled South, maily. Otherwise it seems like everyone is well off. Did meet a neo- nazi in a cathedral by accident, which was odd but I finally just wrapped it up and left, unsure of what to say. He was anout 65 and on govt. Also odd healthcare... they dont have yearly checkups and pharmacist prescribe most meds. Incredible sustainable public transit. almost no cars in the city. much art dedicated to tolerance and equality. would post more but tired of hunting and pecking. So hi, or "hej!"
