High-speed internet service can be defined as a utility, a federal court has ruled in a sweeping decision clearing the way for more rigorous policing of broadband providers and greater protections for web users.
The losers will not want to push back too hard at this time. They do not want this case to go to the Supreme Court too early. If the S.C. refuses to hear the case or if the S.C. is deadlocked then the lower court ruling will stand. Even a more corporate-friendly (read: She Who Will Not Be Named) administration may not be able to influence the S.C. in favor of the broadband providers.
This is much more than just a legal issue.
the little people vs. Comcast and AT&T, we probably would have lost, but weren't there pretty hefty corporate interests on the neutrality side of the dispute as well? (Google, Amazon...)
Sorry for the cynicism. I'm all for net neutrality, for whatever reason we got it. So yay for now!
A 2-1 split does not bode well for when this get to the Supreme Court, and two of the three current candidates will most likely put someone on the court that would nix it.
But let's enjoy the moment while we can. = )

What if this is the bone "they" are throwing us? While we are chewing that bone (similar to many of the non-economic issues that we tend to "win") we are being set up for more surveillance and propaganda, so we can be taught to be nice little citizens. The corporations are going to make their money either way.
The Internet will for many just replace the TV; for others it is a tool. If that tool is compromised in a manner that is not readily visible, is the tool still doing what we want?
Sorry to keep raining on the parade, but I have developed over the years a deep distrust in "our" government that has only been reinforced this past year.

We need that balance.
Long day here but we are able to laugh at the hummingbirds trying to fight over simple syrup. (there's more than enough for them all and yet..)
Take care.

AT&T plans to fight:
The Empire WILL Strike Back
They will need a more corporate-friendly (read: Republican) administration in place. Then we're REALLY in for a raping!

I Mostly Agree
Corporations never die. Thus they wait patiently until they can win. Then they strike.

How much more corporate friendly

Google itself uses little bandwidth.
But some of its subsidiaries, like YouTube, chew through bandwidth like there's no tomorrow.

I can't fault you for that.
I'm from the government and I am here to help. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
In my profession there is only government oversight, I don't trust private interests at all.
Won't TPP
render it null and void?

for now. Just waiting for a trade deal to fuck that up. Though, hopefully it just goes the way of the phone.
