the meaning of life?

Could it be some simple and crappy truth that seems too malicious to actually be? Something like: You’ll never get anywhere “working your way up” or “playing by the rules” because there are too many weak and sniveling fake-it-til-you-make-it people around who will stand in your way and hold you back. The only way is to walk over all of them and go straight to the top, then cut your own deal. Otherwise, you struggle with the rest.

My point is that a reasonable person, having lived to a certain age, and having examined his surroundings and the greater world as it's presented, might conclude what I wrote to be the case.
