FOLKS - CA IS NOT OVER ... I mean seriously, IT IS NOT OVER ... Keep the Faith ...

The AP called California once "100% of the precincts were counted", but WTF does that mean? The counting isn't anywhere close to being 100% done in CA.

Here in CA we don't have election day, we have election week, which means we are still counting votes (lots and lots of votes). 3 million votes might still be uncounted (see below).

Cathleen Decker, Politics analyst/columnist for @latimes, recently tweeted:

LATimes - Wednesday's big question: How many uncounted California ballots?

With California's evolution to a state where most voters cast their ballots by mail, political watchers have concluded that election day has turned into election week .

The independent Target Book, a publication that handicaps congressional and legislative races, called it "probable" that as many as 3 million ballots could remain uncounted by time Tuesday night ended. And traditionally, said the analysts, those ballots tend to have come from Democrats, young and Latino voters.

As of early Wednesday morning, about 5 million ballots had already been counted, but there was no official word on how many remained. State election law gives counties 30 days to finish their canvassing of votes cast. Secretary of State Alex Padilla must receive certified results from each of California's 58 counties by July 8.

Geez, our state is always holding its primary when the races are effectively over, so I guess everyone forgot that we NEVER GET THE RESULTS quickly. Why didn't anyone prominent in the MSM remind everyone of this? Why didn't they mention this when they called CA? Hmmmm ....

Take a look at the current results in CA according to the New York Times:

Clinton 1,940,580
Sanders 1,502,043
Others (some small number)
Total 3,475,720 votes,
100% reporting (22,359 of 22,359 precincts)
Note: I suspect that 100% of the precincts counted means for the votes that were cast at the polls on June 7.

What would happen if 3 million uncounted votes went to Bernie? 1.5 million + 3 million = 4.5 million, so Bernie would win the state, that's all.

Ok, I'm not so optimistic as to think that ALL of the the remaining votes will go to Bernie, but the point that I am trying to make is that CA is still in play. CA is not over. And the votes that remain to be counted are most likely heavily in Bernie's favor ...

Here's another data point: In 2008, there were a total of 5,066,992 votes cast in the Democratic primary, according to http://www.electproject.org/2008p

And another:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SandersForPresident/comments/4n84nb/la_county_r...

So far we know for just 5 counties in CA that need to count provisional ballots
570,000 ballots to be counted in LA County
285,000 in San Diego County
95,000 in San Bernadino County
128,415 in Riverside County
245,070 in Orange County (58,000 VBM received in mail, 110,500 VBM turned in at polls, 61,370 provisionals; that totals 229,870, but that's all the info on the website)

Running total: 1,323,485

Finally, I don't believe that the NYT updates its data after the election has been called. Here is another URL that can be used to get numbers that are usually more accurate: The Green Papers - California Democrat

Again, the counting isn't anywhere close to being 100% done in CA. Listen to the LA Times, not the NY Times.

It's not over till the fat lady sings ...

is 18% of 3million. so Bernie needs to take about 60% of them.

Did anyone else ask why the polling showing a very close race was so off in Hillary's favor this time?

p.s. based on NYT numbers, yuck

Yes, I just learned that too - that 100% or whatever % precincts reporting does not necessarily mean they reported all the numbers yet, just that they reported. Ha.

Another of many reasons Bernie needs to stay in there.

There are also 85 unpledged (not SD) delegates from the previous states that voted. At last count (after the "secret bogus SDs for HRC) there were still 126 unpledged SDs.

Is that an actual corbel bearing Sanders and the bird likeness? (you're avatar) I'd love to buy one of those if they are available.

Very cool.

It's a stone, outdoor wall plaque. Here are some for sale, and it's pricey. Someone here googled around and found it cheaper somewhere, but I don't recall where.

It's called "Birdwatcher." I'm pretty sure it's a coincidence that it so resembles Bernie and Birdie, and that it was not made because of him.

I am keeping an eye on it though and if one comes up again for cheap it will be mine. Smile

Was St Francis of Assisi the bird lover? (My religious background has major holes in Saints). Bernie as the bird saint works.

I got my gargoyles (plastercast-haha for some) in France, mini-ed replicas of some from Notre Dame and elsewhere. Largest maybe sticks off the wall a foot. We had to buy an extra suitcase in France to haul them back, friends who were francophiles were interested in setting up (with us) an import business. Beat by the one that advertised in airline catalogues, many of which like above are modern, not ancient.

Mine are mostly routed at the top to accommodate tubing set in the make them spit. Never went there.

yesterday morning seemed very subdued about reporting California. Maybe that's why.

Have you seen this? http://www.gregpalast.com/california-stolen-sanders-right-nowspecial-bul...

Is it accurate? Do you know if provisional ballots will be counted? Because those would mostly be for Sanders, apparently.

if you were an independent you were allowed to request a Democratic Ballot and you were supposed to be given one. I didn't want to take a chance, I registered Democrat.

So the thing was, you had to know that you had to ask.

However, if you noticed that you got the wrong ballot ("where's Bernie's name?"), you COULD take it to your polling station on election day, have that ballot invalidated, and then be given a Democratic one.

Re provisional ballots - I think they will be counted. I don't remember where now, but I thought I saw something official saying that. But I wouldn't swear on it either.

NPP voters were required to get a "Crossover" ballot, not a Democratic Party one, and poll workers were expressly instructed not to volunteer this information to voters in their manual and according to many on twitter even when asked for them many poll workers would still only provide a provisional ballot.

I want to "surrender" my ballot - WITH envelope - and request a crossover ballot.

They made it ridiculously hard. And if you said "I want the ballot with the Democratic presidentail candidates" you'd be told, no - you are NPP, you can't have a Democratic ballot. They wouldn't TELL you about the crossover ballot. Once again, you had to know the magic word "Crossover"

What the hell kind of way to run an election is this?

Why not just insist people bring a sacrificed chicken, and dance three times sunwise around the poll worker? It's asinine.
Probably should be widdershins around the poll worker anyway, in hopes of banishing them.

Under the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 every California voter who casts a provisional ballot has the right to find out from their county elections official if the ballot was counted and, if not, the reason why it was not counted.

www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-status

I'd like to see this link get passed around and start a facebook twitter storm (or whatever they call it) and hopefully a good number of the people who were given provisional ballots can start calling to find out the status of their provision vote.

elenacarlena's picture

if it's provisional, it's assumed that at the time of the vote, you could not prove your identity or registration or some such. So you have to contact the SOS and provide that proof. If you do not, you are never counted. And many people don't know about the followup part. Or if they know, they never get around to it. You have a limited time to do the followup, of course, since they want to get the count completed.

Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.

Shocking! How incompetent is this election process? It drives me nuts. Keeps happening every cycle and nobody seems to care too much. Restricted times, rules making it difficult to vote by mail, crazy registration rules and requirements, voting locations that move without proper notice, huge lines, the whole provisional ballot mess, failing machines, ID requirements that differ from one place to another, etc.. Come on! This is the foundation of the democratic process. Get it wrong and the legitimacy of the whole system comes into question - which is what is happening here.

I hope Sanders told Obama that is waiting for ALL votes to be counted....

Obama had a problem with the vote count in LA County, i believe in 2008, and ending up with thousands more votes? and several more delegates when it was finally resolved?

from 2008

94,000 VOTES MISSING IN L.A. COUNTY
by Paul Hogarth on February 12, 2008

While Hillary Clinton won last week’s California primary, the gap would be narrower if we counted every vote. But in Los Angeles County, the Registrar of Voters disqualified 94,500 ballots from “decline to state” (DTS) voters – because most did not fill an extra bubble to say they were voting in the Democratic primary. These voters requested a Democratic ballot, were given a ballot with only Democratic candidates listed, and a manual re-count would clearly indicate who they meant to vote for. But if they didn’t check the extra bubble, the machine did not pick up their vote – a fatal design flaw beyond any voter’s control. To not count these votes would violate state law, as well as the California Constitution – which requires every vote to be counted. With the close delegate count at stake – along with overwhelming proof that non-partisan voters favored Barack Obama – it is incumbent on L.A. County to count every vote, and to do it now.

Last week, 189,000 “decline-to-state” (DTS) voters in California’s largest County participated in the presidential primary – a 20% increase in turnout over 2006. Each party can choose whether to allow DTS voters in their primary, but only two have done so: (a) the Democratic Party, and (b) the American Independent Party – an ultra-right, nativist party. For a DTS voter to participate, they had to request a ballot in one of these two parties. An overwhelming number picked the Democratic ballot, as poll workers were required to keep track by marking it in the voter rolls.

But here’s where it got tricky. As the sample ballot shows below, DTS voters who got a Democratic ballot were given a list of the presidential candidates. But directly above (and in smaller font), they were also told to mark a bubble that they were voting in the Democratic primary. According to the election machines, 94,500 DTS voters who asked for such a ballot did not pick a candidate. While some may have abstained, it’s clear that a solid majority were disqualified simply because they did not fill in that extra bubble.

Wait until Clinton loses to Republican election fraud. Same methods, but easier for them to accomplish it, and they have a lot of money to purge, provision and hack (stuff).

From the Light House.

If they went to all the trouble to tell poll workes to trick voters and/or deny them the correct ballots, then do you really think they'll actually count any of the votes or just sit quiet until the 30 days runs out?

We're notgetting a fair election and Bernie is getting robbed.
