Smiley Lewis

Album of the Week 8-31-24

Afternoon folks!

We've got a bunch of great stuff from New Orleans this week, starting off with Champion Jack Dupree (with Mickey Baker on guitar and Hal Singer on sax) and followed up by a great compilation of stuff, some from names you probably know and other stuff not, all of which is worth a listen. After that we've got an album from Aretha Franklin - some of it is a little schmaltzy, but the rest of it is solid r&b.

After that, it's on to George Thorogood, Blue Cheer, an EP from Dr. Feelgood and J.J. Cale's best album. We finish off with an album from Dutch prog-rockers Focus (with guitarist Jan Akkerman, who's about the same calibre as Jeff Beck).

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 12-30-23

Afternoon folks!

We've got a bunch of good stuff this week. Starting off, we've got an album from B.B. King from earlier in his career with some fabulous guitar playing and after that we've got a compilation album from New Orleans artist Smiley Lewis. Then it's on to blues rock with most of the 50th anniversary edition of Rory Gallagher's second album with some live-in-the-studio extras from Radio Bremen. Following that, there's a later album from Steppenwolf. Finishing up with the diversity picks, there's an album from The Band and a live album from Curved Air.

Have a great holiday weekend and Enjoy!

Afternoon folks!

We've got some blues with a New Orleans flavor this week, compilation albums from Smiley Lewis and The Meters. There's also some Ten Years Afer and Stone The Crows in the blues-rock department. There's some stuff from two Carlene Carter albums, one mostly recorded with Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe. For a further change of pace, we've got Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen and Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks.
