Matt Guitar Murphy

Album of the Week 4-4-26

Afternoon folks!

It's time for another scoop of the blues. This week we start out with a great album from guitarist and harmonica player Slim Harpo followed by a reunion album of Chicago blues piano player Memphis Slim and guitarist Matt "Guitar" Murphy. After that it's the rockin' 50's blues of Jackie Brenston and then on to an album from Chicago blues guitarist Eddie Taylor, followed by an album of 40's piano blues from Cecil Gant. We finish up in the diversity department with an album from British folk rock group Oysterband.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 2-28-26

Afternoon folks!

This week we start off with a couple of Chicago blues albums, one from guitarist Otis Rush and another, a live album from harmonica player James Cotton with Matt Guitar Murphy and Luther Tucker. After that, we have a rockabillyish sort of compilation album from Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks followed by an album by Stax guitarist Steve Cropper and lots of guests which is a tribute to the 5 Royales. Finishing us up in the diversity department is an album from the band Klaatu that for a brief moment in the mid 70's some loose gossip caused folks to think that it might be a new Beatles album. It's an interesting album nonetheless.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 10-25-25

Afternoon folks!

There's some great blues for you all to listen to this week. Starting off, there's an album of mostly live recordings from the American Folk Blues Festival in Europe from 1962 with a great lineup of talent including Memphis Slim, Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, Matt Guitar Murphy and Sonny Boy Williamson. Following that are albums from Eddy Clearwater and west coast harmonica player William Clarke. After that it's on to the rock department with a band you've likely heard of, Los Lobos recorded live and we finish up in the diversity department with a 1980's album from Canadian folk-rock guitarist and songwriter Bruce Cockburn.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 3-8-25

Afternoon folks!

It's gonna be a good week because we're starting off with a Matt "Guitar" Murphy solo album with some really impressive guitfiddle playin'. After that we've got a live compilation of a variety of blues performers, most of whom followers of the Evening Blues will be familiar with, there's a notable blues rock perfomance on it from Stevie Ray Vaughn, early in his career. Following that there's a Taj Mahal album and a Savoy Brown album from their late career rock era. After that there are a couple of jazzy albums one from Danny Gatton and Tom Principato with some fairly amazing guitar playing and after that another from Gil Scott-Heron. Following that is an album from slide guitar monster Bob Brozman and we finish off with an album from David Bromberg.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 5-28-22

Afternoon folks!

I've got a couple of great blues albums by Howlin' Wolf and Memphis Slim with Matt "Guitar" Murphy and a bunch of blues-rock. There's The Animals, Savoy Brown, Ten Years After and George Thorogood. There's also most of a bluegrass album by The Dillards. I'll add the last couple of tunes to the Dillards album sometime Sunday.

Enjoy!
