Shaun King: Don’t be so sure supporters of Bernie Sanders would easily switch to Hillary Clinton come the general election
Link: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/king-don-bernie-supporters-back-hillary-article-1.2578063
Shaun King has written an insightful article that contends what many of us Bernie Sanders-supporters have said for months: that Hillary Clinton shouldn't count on Bernie's supporters to just jump on the Hillary bandwagon should she win. King's article was spurred on by Bernie's interview with Cenk Uygar on The Young Turks:
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggFitmOTSok]
Regarding the automated procession to Hillary from Bernie, King:
I'm not buying it. Daily, I have dozens of Bernie Sanders supporters who tell me that if Bernie Sanders loses the primary to Clinton that they would rather somehow see him run as an independent or that they would even consider voting for a third party candidate such as Jill Stein of the Green Party before they would support Clinton.
This is a big reason that I thought Hillary would have been much better off following her early strategy against Bernie: agree when possible, encourage his competitiveness, and be friendly rather than combative. But this IS Hillary Clinton that we're talking about, so we knew that wouldn't last long.
On Bernie's answer when Cenk asked about campaigning for Hillary:
Now, of course Bernie gave the typical spiel on how he is "in this campaign to win it," but when Cenk pushed Bernie for an answer, he pretty much refused to say he'd campaign for her. Seeing the opening, Cenk pushed Bernie on how he "had pretty much convinced millennials that Hillary was the establishment candidate" and asked again if he would get behind such an establishment candidate and campaign for her. Bernie wasn't vague in his answer. Instead, he very clearly told Cenk that he was more interested in what the democratic establishment would do to meet him halfway and then went right into a full fledged critique of the party.
Cenk did have one juicy question left: if Bernie won, was Hillary Clinton liberal enough to be in his cabinet?
Bernie was classic Bernie:
Bernie replied, "Oh, stop getting me in trouble here. There are other people that I would probably go to before Hillary Clinton... people like Elizabeth Warren, for example."
Bang! Beautiful, Bernie. Just beautiful.

Hey Caerus, YES! That is great work.
I have tweeted it out to several folks, AND to /r/sandersforpresident.
I'll maybe try to tweet it out to Mark Ruffalo? He retweeted some of my stuff?
I'd like to see this take flight, for sure.

Shaun is right
A lot of people are very angry and Hillary doesn't have any reserves of good will
with Sanders supporters. If anything, she and her campaign have gone out of
its way to piss us off.
"You can't just leave those who created the problem in charge of the solution."---Tyree Scott
I don't think of it like that
To me, asking me to vote for Hillary would be a lot like asking a typical GOS'er to vote for a Republican. I'm a part of the 99%. I vote for liberal populist candidates. Hillary doesn't make me angry although her campaign of non-stop lies and distortions has certainly opened my eyes to who she really is. I just see her as standing for pretty much the exact opposite of almost everything I stand for.
Even on women's rights I don't think she's all that strong. Sure, she'd go to the mat for reproductive rights but how about the right to eat and put a roof over your head?

I'm in a different boat.
I went into this primary season never even considering not voting for the Dem no matter what. First it was just Hillary, and while I wasn't ecstatic about her I just, as always, assumed I'd vite for her and planned to sit out the primary because who cares. All that changed when Bernie announced, though I assumed he'd lose but push Hillary left and force some important conversations, and of course I'd vote for her in the general. At first, that's what it looked like, ands all I had to do was disassociate her with the ville behavior of her Kos supporters, telling myself that it was just a few internet jerks and you can't smear someone because of that. But then the Bernie Bro meme comes up, and everyone's pretending that Bernie has only jerk supporters and Hillary supporters are the very soul of graciousness, and that you can totally judge a candidate by that. Even then I tried not to blame her. I even tried to disassociate her from the DNC shenanigans and DWS's crap. But then Hillary got ugly after the New Year, started slinging crap, started directly insulting Bernie folk and indirectly through her surrogates, lying to black voters about Bernie's great record on civil rights and with the Civil Rights movement, and just generally doing all she could to show how much contempt and even hatred she and her cronies have not just for Bernie but for the entire progressive wing of the party--and that she feels safe spitting directly on us, because were a guaranteed voting bloc for the Dems, and we'll just wipe the spit and shit off, say "thank you, ma'am and vote for her like always...and the only thing she and the DNC want from us is for us to stop trying to get involved outside of money, votes, and free labor (so long as we stick to the script). If we could do that and stop trying to promote our own ideas and concerns, thyd be fine with us. They're not upset that we might take our balls and go home--theyre mad that we're not leaving our balls with them and going home. The part where we go home is actually desirable to them, so long as we go home empty handed like we always have. Well, too bad, its my damn ball and if I leave my ball comes with me.

Nicely put.
No matter how many times we manage to put our knowledge of what Hillary Clinton actually is in the back of our minds, she insists on reminding us. I will not vote for anyone who sneers at what I believe.

Yeah... funny thing about that
Bernie has his "BernieBro's" apparently, but when Emily Ratajkowski came out in favor of Bernie Clinton fans had some interesting viewpoints on the topic.
It turns out that sexism on the internet isn't limited to just one candidate or topic. Whodathunk?

Yeah, I sure have to admit
Before her campaign there was at least some chance I might've voted for her rather than Jill Stein. It's possible that fear of a Trump/Cruz win would have motivated me. But after her campaign which has basically been a non-stop shit storm of lies, deception, and malpractice, there's nothing that could happen that would change my mind. If Bernie showed up at my front door and spent the afternoon in my living room trying to convince me to vote for her I sincerely doubt he would be able to change my mind.

This weekend with the next round of primaries and caucuses should be telling. WA is an important state and will the views pick up higher then the last round? Understands that only one candidate isn't trying to suck the life out of it. At a Trump rally, the bird would have shat on that orange nestlike aberration. At Cruz, it would have summoned millions of its friends to begin the apocalypse. At Hillary, it would have set upon Her Royal Woodeness with gusto, pecking away in search of all forms of infestations wriggling beneath her diseased bark.

I just got done saying upthread how Trump would have the vulture. So then I googled "What's the sneakiest bird?" and came up with this link in the top 10. Yup. I think the honor goes to the black heron.......
(ps. this very same bird lives on in BBC infamy, but that fame is really funny--here, it's just...surreal. Surreal? Is that the word I mean?)
Interesting.
It is new terrain.
If Bernie does not prevail, I think he will endorse Hillary. But whether he campaigns for her or not, and how enthusiastic he does, is unknown.
I don't think he was negotiating there. Just answering a hypothetical question. Bernie is not a typical politician. He can be senator in Vermont for so long as he wants. Hillary cannot buy him with political favors, etc.
We will have to wait and see what happens. I have confidence in Bernie in doing what is right, whatever that is.

I suspect Bernie will be out campaigning
But he will be continuing to build the movement. The best way to push Hillary left (rhetorically, anyway) and increase the movement's influence in the party would be for Bernie to continue doing exactly what he's doing right now even after the convention, not as a presidential candidate but as the leader of a political movement both candidates would have to answer to. Bernie could definitely campaign for good candidates, and bui.d political capital by helping to get them elected. If his coat tails proved longer than Clinton's, that could be the best way he can continue to play the inside game in growing the movement.
Keeping his campaign apparatus intact after the convention would also do a lot to help transition from campaign to longer-term movement infrastructure. That would buy time to allow future leaders to emerge, without having to start from square one.

He says he doesn't want to push her left.
He also said, when pressed by Cenk, that he knows what she says, on the TPP for instance, can't be trusted.
Until that interview, I would have agreed with you, albeit sadly; after it, I don't think so. He was *very* reluctant to suggest that he would support her. He basically said she had to agree to Medicare for All, Fight for 15, aggressive action on climate change, a job creation/infrastructure repair program--and he said those were *some* of the things he would ask for in exchange for support.
What happens when he asks her to bring back Glass-Steagall? To prosecute Wall St? To clean up the three-tier justice system?

I don't think he'll be campaigning for her
... Except in the most pro-forma, perfunctory way. And he'll probably be putting her on the spot as much as supporting her. Campaigning for Hillary wouldn't build the movement. I suspect he'll return to his independent identity, but with a much bigger following and a louder megaphone. He wins by maintaining an arms-length relationship with the Democratic Party, just as he always has. He'll be campaigning for democratic socialism as he sees it, and doing his best to build that vision for the country.

We are nowhere near decision time yet
I keep thinking about the FBI investigation and possible associated leaks. Imagine the army of private investigators Trump could hire if Clinton gets the nomination. Heck, remember Spiro Agnew. I would expect Bernie to get the VP position if Clinton wins the nomination, unless that gets vetoed by the DNC. There is a real possibility that Hillary would screw up so badly she could not keep the office.
I am willing to bet that Trump
already has had an army of investigators digging into the Clintons.
