Univision - wow!

Please pardon the brevity of this entry, but I think a huge thank you is due to the Univision newsfolk who moderated tonight's debate. Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas asked important questions that were brutally confrontational by the standards of our mainstream media, and had no fear of holding the candidates' feet to the fire if they tried to evade.

This might be a new concept for many Americans. It's called "journalism." You can be pardoned if you didn't recognize it, since it's practically never practiced in this country anymore. (That's one of the reasons the country is in the mess it's in.)

Anyway, I couldn't help but comment on the tremendous work of the moderators. Here's hoping it encourages some members of America's mainstream media to stand up on their hind legs and think for themselves, ask difficult questions, and refuse to allow public officials to insult everyone'e intelligence with bullshit and doublespeak.

Well done, Univision.

head(chair?) donated to HRC's PAC and Ramos' daughter works with the HRC campaign. Was wondering how the debate will turn out, though I didn't watch it (just not interested). So I understand the questions were still good - I mean no softballs for HRC?

questioning by the media of a public person of this stature I've seen since ... I don't know. A hell of a long time. Tough questions, and they were repeated if the candidate failed to answer.

And he did not let that relationship keep him from doing his job. That was the best moderated debate thus far and Bernie was on point!

He earned 3 or 4 points in Florida on that performance.

I'm only half way through, and may or may not watch the rest. But from my perspective, the moderators let HRC talk considerably longer than Bernie. By a good 30-50%, it seemed. I felt they were also a bit dismissive of Bernie. Very unimpressed.

I thought that CNN did a really good job last week! However, I generally agree with you on the insipid, milquetoast stupidity of our American media and their debates!

Hits:
- Comfortable asking follow-up questions (or repeating the same question to Hillary cause she deflects)
- Asked some good hard-hitting questions
- Allowed the candidates to debate each other to a good extent
- In the end, did a good job of grilling the candidates on issues related to the American Hispanic community
- Longest segment on climate change I believe, though still too short

Misses:
- Lost control of time-limits, as Hillary kept up her filibuster. This is a media-wide problem it seems.
- Some questions-videos were gotcha questions and in poor taste or out of context- Bernie Castro video, Hillary Benghazi.
- Because of those gotcha moments, it sometimes felt like a "telenovela", or an attempt to make it one. Ironically, it really wasn't needed, fireworks were flying without them.
- Lack of follow-up on Hillary's lies and smears. Like"Secretary Clinton, do you really believe Bernie Sanders is on the side of the militia known as the Minutemen?"

Anyways my 2 cents, I will say this, it was refreshingly different than all the other debates.

Progressive to the bone.

is probably losing her votes - it seems to be really pissing off a lot of neutrals. I suspect that Sanders knows this.

and the fact that the moderators let her openly and obviously get away with it is pissing me off something fierce. All these media outfits are part of the problem and in the bag for that woman.
