Trump picks an ag secretary.

National Pentagon Radio was reporting yesterday afternoon that Der Trumpster plans to nominate one Sonny Perdue, Gov. or former Gov. of Georgia to be agriculture secretary. At least it wasn't that idiot Senora Morena, whom I once heard on CSPAN telling a congressional committee that agricultural pesticides are not harmful to farm workers.

Any Georgia residents here? What is known about Perdue? Who finances him? The head of Bayer, the German, and former Nazi, company which is buying out Monsatan, has already had a meeting with Trump, so I have to suppose that the forces of GMO darkness have already approved Perdue. Is there any chance that USDA will NOT continue to be a wholly owned subsidiary of Monsanto, Con-Agra, et al.?

In other news, a Senator from Kansas was interviewed on NPR saying that one reason for renegotiating trade deals would be to open foreign markets to GMOs. There is a mini notice about the interview on DK this morning, and the shills are already swarming.

Russia Proposes Clear GMO Labeling for Eurasian Economic Union

Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) announced last week that it is inviting all EAEC countries to apply an additional “GMO” icon on the packaging of food products that contain modified organisms.

The Rospotrebnadzor and the Eurasian Economic Commission confirmed the proposed amendments to the technical regulations on the labeling of food products in the EAEC, despite objections from some European Union food manufacturers, who claimed that the new GMO icon will cause problems for international trade.

According to the new regulations the basic size of the GMO icon label must not be less than 5 mm.

At least they get a label, good for them. I like to know when food is a patented science experiment, usually in order to avoid it. Thanks.

@Nastarana - I guess every economy has one, or wants one. I didn't follow your kos link. Yet. It might take a while. Thanks
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_Economic_Union#Pivot_to_Asia

The union is actively seeking to increase trade with East Asia. It commenced talks for official trade cooperation with ASEAN. Officials of both unions discussed opportunities for developing cooperation between them.

The South Korean president launched a "Eurasian Initiative", which seeks to connect transportation, electrical, gas and oil links from Western Europe to East Asia. The initiative echoes China's long-standing "New Silk Road" project.

The members of the union agreed to step up talks with Vietnam on creating a free trade zone, to strengthen cooperation with China, including in information exchange on goods and services, and to set up expert groups to develop preferential trade regimes with Israel and India.

No more Free Trade, Trump wants Smart Trade. We'll see.

That's about all I know about him, so already he's better than any possible Hillary appointee could be. Fingers crossed. I'm a farmer and he knows farmers. As far as getting other trade treaty members to accept GMOs, good luck with that. The US is the only world power willing to poison its citizens, destroy its farmland and foul its waters. Even China is moving toward, can't call it stewardship, but conservation of resources.

@GusBecause You do have a point there.

I agree with you about getting the rest of the world to swallow GMOs. Let us hope we are right about that. US is not the only country wherein the governing elites are willing to poison citizens, soils and water. There are also India, Argentina and Canada.

...that the U.S. Forest Service is under the control of the USDA, as is SNAP, the food stamp program. This isn't all a Monsanto problem.

Nature is my religion; the earth is my temple.

@dewley notid Secretary designate Perdue. Might you possibly have any thoughts or knowledge about Mr. Perdue to share?

There was also some discussion of forcing GMO products on trading partners who don't want those products. Have you any thoughts on that?
