We've hit bottom, so it can only get better from here.

The U.S. presidential election may turn out to be one of the world's biggest un-popularity contests.
Nearly half of American voters who support either Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Donald Trump for the White House said they will mainly be trying to block the other side from winning, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday....
"This phenomenon is called negative partisanship," Sabato said. "If we were trying to maximize the effect, we couldn't have found better nominees than Trump and Clinton."

Or have we hit bottom?

Both campaigns probably will decide their best strategy is to work even harder to vilify each other, he said.
"It’s going to get very, very negative," he added.

This scenario is not in the script. Reality will not be allowed to intrude into the carefully cultivated meme implanted in the American voter to continue to support corporatist rule.

asking Hillary supporters, "What is the primary reason you are supporting him?" tsk tsk tsk

anyway, as Shaun King wrote, you don't hear people saying they're voting for Hillary because of her stand on any particular issue. It's all "no Trump" or "she can win".

I was at a neighborhood party last night and the group of people there fit this poll almost to the letter (most are retired). The consensus was that they would vote for Trump over Hillary. The word that came up most frequently was that she was a "liar." Most of them agreed with me when I complained about these terrible candidates and asked what is happening to this country. Not one person had a sincere belief that either candidate was good Presidential material.

The usual effect of a nasty campaign is to drive the turnout way down which then makes the outcome somewhat random or maybe favoring the best ground game. The effect on the down-ticket races is going to be interesting.

Has there ever been a Presidential election where the two most likely candidate (fingers still crossed for Bernie, though) are so disliked—where the voting criteria is which candidate one hates the least?

I'd look at the Election of 1860. It may not be a perfect match, in that there were four major candidates due to party splits, but I believe it fits otherwise.

So I was wondering, has any president ever started out with a negative favorability rating on Day One?
You know what the answer is: No. It's never happened before.
At least not since modern polling started right after WWII. It probably happened in the late 19th Century, but there were no polls to back up that opinion.

CBS

Compared to frontrunners in previous presidential primary races, Trump and Clinton's unfavorable ratings (57 percent and 52 percent respectively) are the highest in CBS News/New York Times Polls going back to 1984, when CBS began asking this question.

This is a CBS poll, but there are others with similar results. On this poll, Hillary has a 31% favorable and Trump has 24. The two least liked candidates ever, facing off. Hahahaha.

You know who has the highest favorables of all the candidates that are running or have run in 2016, right?

Hillary has NOT won the nomination (yet), and yet Moronic Media treats her like she already has the nomination sewn up.

As Bernie revealed, mathematically she cannot get a majority number of delegates by the time the convention starts in Philadelphia (nor can Bernie). This will be a contested convention. Moronic Media is ignoring that for the most part.
http://www.c-span.org/video/?408915-1/bernie-sanders-holds-news-conferen...

So, Moronic Media, here is your "forgotten" question because you are ignoring the only viable candidate for the 2016 election: Why are people voting for Bernie...???

BTW, who has money enough to pay off the six major media corporations to skew the election in favor of Hillary just by ignoring Bernie's existence??? Or pay off Google???

We've all seen Bernie's packed venues - overflowing, even - week after week after week since May of last year. We know most of his stump speech by heart. Moronic Media is ignoring Bernie, and still he attracts overflowing crowds of people who are volunteering and voting for him (and donating to his campaign), and there has been a distinct increase in Dem voter registration (which DNC wants to get their grubby little hands on) and voter turnout in lines that extend many blocks because the election powers that be in some states eliminated polling places so people have to stand in line for hours to get to vote (and that was just the primaries/caucuses).

DWS, via DNC and state/local election members have done everything possible to thwart people who are Bernie supporters to keep them from voting. They are THAT desperate to get their favored candidate in the White House. If this keeps up, they may well succeed, unless Bernie's objections bear fruit. [I have fantasies of thwacking DWS across the face with a hunk of wet lutefisk.]

This whole thing feels rigged, and that pisses me off more than words can say! The Rethugs put forth the WORST lineup possible to make HRC look like the only "logical choice..." and after all, 'she has two X chromosomes and it's time we had a woman in the White House and it's her turn because she lost to Obama' ~~~ until Bernie came along and halted her leisurely walk to the White House. I know damned good and well she expected to run unopposed. Jinx!!!

She's not letting anyone forget who nominated Obama by acclimation at the '08 convention after she lost to him, either, I notice..., a big "HINT" to coerce Bernie into doing the same thing if she gets the nomination. If there are any supreme beings, IF HRC wins the nomination, let her best buddy DWS do the nominating. Bernie has already said Hillary is the one who has to appeal to his supporters if she wants his supporters to vote for her; she took great umbrage at that. Of course, IF there are any supreme beings, Bernie will be the Dem presidential candidate and he will win because he is the only one who genuinely wants to do what's best for We the People.

So, we shall see what happens in two and a half months at the convention, won't we? I hope the whole convention will be aired on C-SPAN, first gavel to last, including the tedious stuff that will go before the committees (I want to see how much of a fool Barney Frank will make of himself; whatever goodwill he previously had is now pretty much shot from what I've seen of his appearances on "news" shows). I plan on watching the whole convention if I can.

Buy popcorn futures, people.

Hákarl. DWS needs to be thwacked across the face with a nice, fresh (!) hunk of hákarl. Maybe marinated, lutefisk style, in broth which had had surströmming in it before.

Lutefisk may be vile, but it just isn't vile enough for my opinion of the whole damn Turd Way nonsense and those who propagate it by choice.
