NATO top commander in Europe says 'military option' possible in Ukraine
NATO’s commander in chief says the West should not rule out arming Ukraine. General Philip Breedlove said no troops would be sent to the region, but providing Kiev with weapons and equipment was on the cards.
Speaking to reporters at a security conference in Munich on Saturday, Breedlove said: “I don’t think we should preclude out of hand the possibility of the military option.”
His strong comments come as the US is considering sending weapons to help Kiev in its fight against anti-government militias.
The chief commander of NATO said the proposal made by Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine was “completely unacceptable,” and added “there is no conversation about putting boots on the ground.”
The head of the Russian Duma committee on CIS affairs and Eurasian integration, Leonid Slutsky, slammed Breedlove’s comments as “absolutely cynical.”
In Latest Vindication of Snowden, Court Rules UK Mass Surveillance Illegal
'We must not allow agencies to continue justifying mass surveillance programmes using secret interpretations of secret laws,' said Privacy International director Eric King.In the latest vindication of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, a U.K. ruled on Friday that the British government violated human rights law by failing to safeguard some aspects of its intelligence-sharing operations until December 2014.
The Investigatory Powers Tribunal found that the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) accessed information obtained by the National Security Agency (NSA) without sufficient oversight, violating Articles 8 and 10 of the European convention on human rights. According to Reuters, "The tribunal's concern, addressed in the new ruling, was that until details of how GCHQ and the NSA shared data were made public in the course of the court proceedings, the legal safeguards provided by British law were being side-stepped."
The Guardian adds, "The ruling appears to suggest that aspects of the operations were illegal for at least seven years—between 2007, when the Prism intercept [program] was introduced, and 2014."
Article 8 guarantees the right to privacy; Article 10 protects free expression.
"For far too long, intelligence agencies like GCHQ and NSA have acted like they are above the law," said Eric King, deputy director of Privacy International, one of the human rights groups that brought the case to the IPT. "Today’s decision confirms to the public what many have said all along—over the past decade, GCHQ and the NSA have been engaged in an illegal mass surveillance sharing program that has affected millions of people around the world."

Of course NATO supports military action
Ukraine would put NATO directly on Russia's doorstep. I have always thought western involvement in Ukraine was directly related to expanding NATO's reach.
On a personal note, I took a bunch of old electronics to the county's hazardous waste collection center. They make it so easy to dispose of these items and the collection center is located inside the city, so I did not have to drive to some remote site to dispose of them. I just wish we could have the convenience these items provide without having so much waste and hazardous waste generated as a result.

Control of Eurasia
Expanding NATO's reach, oil and natural gas power struggles, isolating Russia. I think part of it is the inability of human beings to stop
a train they themselves started. It's a giant power game, the Grand Chessboard, and it's almost like the western ruling class and those who serve it cannot stop from playing. It's like this game must be played out at all costs no matter what. I think it shows the limitations of we human beings at this point in our evolution.
U.S. needs Ukraine for global hegemony
"Washington needs a war in Ukraine to achieve its strategic objectives. This point cannot be overstated."
"The US wants to push NATO to Russia’s western border. It wants a land-bridge to Asia to spread US military bases across the continent. It wants to control the pipeline corridors from Russia to Europe to monitor Moscow’s revenues and to ensure that gas continues to be denominated in dollars. And it wants a weaker, unstable Russia that is more prone to regime change, fragmentation and, ultimately, foreign control."

What Brzezinski said in his Grand Chessboard book. The goal is global hegemony, New World Order.
Not that they're going to get it. They're clearly losing so far which is why they're contemplating more weapons and troops.
Updates...
I've noticed that using the summary section when creating a new diary splits the diary in two so when the diary is viewed as a whole the summary is lopped off, because of that the summary field has been removed in new diaries. The summary for the front page is now automatically created when published.
A tags field has also been added to new diaries and must be filled in. A tag list will be displayed for easy content searches.
A reminder that we now have personal user dashboards that you configure to your convenience, you can access the dashboard by clicking My Account/Dashboard, to configure click "Customize dashboard" and drag and drop the blocks to the desired regions. We also now have extra fields that can be filled out in your user account, go to My Account/Edit and add what fields you would like to display in your user account page.
did you eliminate the emails?
I found the dashboard. It's nice to be able to organize the page.

No...
each user has to decide if they want their emails to show or not, if they do there's a checkbox in the user settings that they have to tick, until then no one but the admins can see their email addys.
Glad you found the dashboard, that should make it easier for folks who read this site with iPhones since you can make the layout much more compact. Put the items you use a lot in one column and then you wont have to side scroll to read it until you open a full page.
Kind of a disturbing article on the Syriza party in Greece.
"It is now obvious that a huge disorienting campaign has been launched by the Greek government, in association with the EU elites and the TE elite, to promote the formalization of the climbdown. It seems that a compromise is in the offing, which would include”the refinancing of the government and the Greek banking system, ending austerity and placing the focus on growth.”
"In other words, all this fuss was about fooling the Greek people in accepting, more or less, the same measures as before, packaged differently! This makes even more imperative the need for the formation of Popular Fronts for National and Social Liberation, which will fight for economic and national liberation, as the foundation for social liberation, on the way for the creation of a new democratic World Order of sovereign and self-reliant nations to replace the present New World Order of neoliberal globalization."

John McCain ASAP. The idiot is on a literal rampage now, he is clearly mentally deranged and a danger not only to this country
but to the entire planet.

Check out this logic and rationale from McInsane
"The US is partially responsible for Ukraine’s indiscriminate use of cluster bombs in the country’s east, US Senator John McCain told Russia’s Sputnik news agency. According to McCain, it is due to the US failing to send Kiev other arms."

They're admitting to war crimes yet the U.N. can't and won't do a thing.
Hello, my name is Al
I'm white, therefore I'm a racist. I didn't choose to be white and therefore a racist, it just turned out that way.
I've learned one thing in my time on this planet.
1. I'm white therefore I'm a racist.
What's interesting though is that hands down,
without equal, the United States imperialist war machine is the most racist organization on the planet, in the history of the planet.
And it's leader, the CINC, Commander in Chief, is a black man.
I wonder, do black people learn these things from white people?
Or could it be, just maybe, we're all the same?
Doesn't non-racism dictate a belief that we're all the same?
I have no expert advice to give you.
Exercise is useful when you are trying to abstain from old habits. Good thing we have Moyers who speaks in liberal tongue.
