Pelosi's Bridge over the River Kwai moment.
For all of you who are too young to understand my reference, Bridge Over the River Kwai was a book by Pierre Boulle (Planet of the Apes) that was made into an award winning movie starring Obi Wan Kenobi Alec Guinness. It is the story of prisoners of war who collaborate with the Japanese Imperial Army to build a bridge for the Death Train that claimed so many lives in WW2. Guinness character, Col. Nicholsen, stands up to the death camp commander Saito and ensures he adheres to the Hague Convention that officers not be made to do manual labor. Nicholson becomes so caught up in his professionalism that he fails to realize that his true duty and that of his men is to thwart the japanese at every opportunity. His pride gets in his way and instead of sabotaging the bridge, he actually ends up aiding in its construction, even as the Allies race to destroy it.
The movie ends with the allies planting bombs on the bridge. Nicholson sees the trap and alerts the japanese. He even fights the man who is trying to set off the charges. Only at the end does he exclaim "What have I done?" The movie ends with the single line "Madness."

A few days ago, The Squad, as they are being called, opposed a border funding bill.
Responding on Twitter, Omar said: “A vote for Mitch McConnell’s border bill is a vote to keep kids in cages and terrorize immigrant communities.”
Tlaib declared: “If you see the Senate bill as an option, then you don’t believe in basic human rights.”
Ocasio-Cortez said: “Hell no. That’s an abdication of power.”
Que Col. Nicholson Nancy Pelosi to point out to the japanese that the bridge has been wired to attack The Squad and try to put them in their place.
Pelosi feels that the four made themselves irrelevant to the process by voting against “our bill,” as she put it, which she felt was the strongest one she could get. “All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” she said. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”
By "our bill" I guess she means the POWs Establishment Dems and the Japanese Republicans, because she sure doesn't mean those Allied against the racist inhumane concentration camps. Of course, those she's in collaboration with chimed in immediately in her defense.
And thus Nancy Pelosi had her Bridge over the River Kwai moment. Did she ask, aghast at last, "What have I done?"
No, she reaffirmed her alliance with the racist right instead, declaring, "Rather than attack members of Congress, he should work with us for humane immigration policy that reflects American values," Pelosi tweeted. "Stop the raids." As if the racist thug and his racist goon squad at ICE are suddenly going to be reasonable, especially after you and the rest of your collaborators just handed over all that money to them (btw, Nancy, whatever happened to Paygo?).
Madness.

You say, and I quote
Let's be honest about racism.
A past president spoke highly of those who were trying to emigrate, yet had no problem deporting, what is even now, a record for deportation.
Was he too racist? Did he too employ a goon squad? Yes.
This is not a demeaning remark against your overall essay. This is just to remind you that racists come in all colors.
Trump is nothing but a side show. Just another in a long line of polished political pricks
Come one, come all, to the greatest show on earth.

Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
How many . . .
children died at the border during Obama's 8 years?
You tell me
as you obviously have an answer.
How many Libyan children died and continue to die in making it a slave country under Obama?
Just because it didn't happen at our border doesn't mean it didn't happen.
For your own info, trump is as equal a murderous shit as obumer.
Thus, they are equally shit in my book.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
You can be a bad president . . .
and not as bad as Trump. He is deliberately polarizing this country.
Obama and his sidekicks Biden and Clinton may not have reached the level of Hitler, but they certainly gave Pol Pot a run for his money. Domestically, they are working hard to meld America into a nice warm purple who won't feel a thing when they suck the last nickel out of the middle class. Trump would rather get the nickel while Americans are involved in a race war.
I don't know why you feel the need to preach to the choir
But then....if you read C99% you already know the difference between us and Obama. So why did you say that at all? And the way you said it: "Let's be honest about racism."
As if I'm somehow being dishonest about racism.
Sorry if you feel I was preaching.
I'm just an equal hater of the past six presidencies.
Hell, I wish we could abolish them.
Peace.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Six....
Trump...Obama...Bush 2...
Clinton...Bush 1...Reagan
so that means you don't feel as hostile to Jimmy Carter, who took in the Shah for humanitarian reasons (the Shah had cancer) but didn't make it a condition that the Shah return the seven billion dollars he smuggled out of Iran. Which led to you know what. I, for one, will always remember the headline of the LA Times when Jimmy was looking for a way out of the mess that he helped create, which read "US Considers the Unthinkable in Iran".
sure, that was probably one of those "throw it out there and see how people react" kind of ideas but still....
Jimmy Carter has been a pretty good ex-President. That's as far as I'd go.
Pelosi started the row

AOC noticed that the women of color got the criticism
rather than the white Dem wingers. My opinion, though, is that Nancy criticized them not because of race but because of politics, that it's more her style to bash lefties and to coddle rightwingers.
Yep
Good point. Pelosi couldn't name the male blue dawgs that helped demolish the house bill or the other democrats that voted against it, just those 4 women who happen to be minorities.

Anybody else momentarily forget what this was originally about?
I think at this point the MSM's objective has been achieved.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Democratic leadership-"losers"
It seems that when Democrats won the House in 2018, they still "lost". The Democratic House leadership is responsible for this disconnect. The Squad are acting like winners and want to fulfill the promises they made to their constituents, but Nancy Pelosi wants to appease the big donors. Hopefully more Dems in Congress will join the Squad.
Yup
In with the new, out with the old.
‘That’s the way my mother always told me it should be.’
The future is now theirs and should lay in their hands.
Pelosi and her elk have had their chance.
Time to turn over the reigns. Changing of the guards.
I rather like the look of this.
Or this.
To me, that's as gross as this. We don't need to change our history. We have to admit it's fallacy.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Great essay.
Trump and Polsi have put the lives of Omar, Talib and the others on the line. All because Pelosi did not like being challenged, not on her position, but on her power to rule. Not one ounce of moral courage or principles.
I have been on this subject all night. This seems to be some turning point.
Trump tries to cover his buttocks
Nope. He did not do that. He let them go on for 15 minutes and he had a smirk on his face the whole time his muppets were chanting.

Not that the length of time really matters, still disgusting.

Bob doesn't necessarily agree with what happened, but he's willing to give Trump a little more time... time for what is my question. To not say stuff like that? To not try to rile up his supporters? Well, Bob. Trump has been saying crap like this since well before he became president. But sure, keep hoping.

"American Values"
Please forgive, or don't, my lack of etiquette when I say the phrase "American Values" in real life means more than just virtue-signaling. Here is the translation, delivered to you by an expert on linguistic confusion: [subtle point here: pay attention lest you miss the message]: "bulllshit, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit".
