Murder in Houston
Late Sunday in Houston midtown, a few blocks from bars and restaurants, Shante Thompson and Willie Sims were shot to death. Police say they may have been beaten with a crowbar before the shooting transpired.
Witnesses say a group of up eight people armed with several weapons swarmed a transgender woman and a man out in the street.
It really hurts me. I have always looked for Shante. I was always been there for her. When I got the call and saw her laying on the ground it really hurt my heart.
--Kevin Braxton, friend of Ms. Thompson
The thirty-five year-old Shante was a transgender woman. Police say they have no motive in the murders.
Shante's mother says Shante was having trouble with a group of guys in the neighborhood who had been picking on her.
I know ya’ll watching and looking. My son is dead and ya’ll are still here. You didn’t have to kill my son.
--Leola Thompson
Ms. Thompson is the eighth transgender woman murdered so far this year.

This is so depressing.
I don't really have much to say here, but constantly seeing these stories in the news lately just sucks.
Omg! I saw this on the news this morning
But they said two men murdered in Midtown. I stopped getting ready for work and listened. I was worried because my brother lives there. As the mom spoke of her son, saying she had been on the phone with him but that he cut the conversation very short, they showed pictures of Shante. That's when I got seriously worried about my brother. He has dated trans women. It's bitter sweet to know that my brother is safe.
This is just horrible!
A religious campaign underway?
A Black co-worker of mine has been on a steady rant against "gays, lesbians, and trans-sexuals" for a while now. declaring that such people go against the law of God and that they should be executed. He spends much time looking up the same Biblical passages and spouts them as if he's in church preaching. It's getting old!
I've read reports lately that Black churches are again being "offered" money to do certain things for specific candidates across both sides of the alleged aisle. Occam's Razor tells me that there is a likely connection between the two. And, as we know from a few members of the various faiths, if prodded enough by their religious leaders, "true believers" will lash out against any cited target group in the name of their deity. I won't be surprised to learn that the perpetrators of these murders (as if they will ever be caught since Texas just LOVES killin'!) claim strong religious beliefs.
