More bashing of the Independent Press...

Fewer than 2,000 readers are on his website when Paris Wade, 26, awakens from a nap, reaches for his laptop and thinks he needs to, as he puts it, “feed” his audience. “Man, no one is covering this TPP thing,” he says after seeing an article suggesting that President Obama wants to pass the Trans-Pacific Partnership before he leaves office. Wade, a modern-day digital opportunist, sees an opportunity. He begins typing a story.

More bashing of the Independent media by the Washington Post, which picks the worst abusers and holds them up to tarnish the entire Independent Media. If the Washington Post reported on a black man who stole a car and implied that all black men are car thieves, I wonder what the reaction would be.

Dear Washington Post

I hear your rage and upset. I understand only 6% of Americans still trust you, and we here in the Independent media now command the majority of the American audience.

So, and despite some faux-repentant editorials, you do what you do best; launching a campaign against the Independent media, labeling us all the "fake" news.

I find this amusing since it was you, the Corporate media, that told us Saddam had nuclear weapons, that Assad was using Sarin against his own Alawite supporters in front of the UN chemical weapons inspectors literally on the day they arrived (the UN concluded the US-backed rebels did this), that there would be no more snowfalls after 2000, that Hilary was winning by 12 points, that a little radiation is good for you, etc. Your historical record is hardly better; torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin, Spanish mine in Havana Harbor, Lusitania not carrying weapons, and so forth. All of these headlines have been discredited by time.

So now you moan the rise of the Independent media. You should actually be very proud. You in the Corporate media created us with your lies to the people. You made us. We are your children, as unloved by you as we may be.

And as is always the case, sooner or later the children shall outstrip the parents.

Peace

There are times when Wade wonders what it would be like to write an article he truly believes in. “In a perfect world,” he says, it would have nuance and balance and long paragraphs and take longer than 10 minutes to compose. It would make people think. But he never writes it, he says, because no one would click on it, so what would be the point?

Instead, as 4,000 people are on the website one night, Wade and Goldman keep writing and feeding, writing and feeding.

Wade writes about a rumor he has seen on Fox News’s website, which says “the new batch of anti-Trump protesters has been bankrolled by individuals like billionaire liberal activist George Soros and groups like Moveon.org.”

“Dude,” Wade says. “The left has been, like, manufacturing the protest.”

Goldman, meanwhile, is typing a story — “It was a literal Hell Storm at DNC headquarters today” — and laughing at what he has written. “God, I just know everything about this statement is so wrong,” he says, and adds, still laughing, “What is a hell storm?”

He finishes it as Wade is putting an old headline on his story about Soros, one that has nothing to do with what he has written but once brought in a lot of page views. He shares it on their Facebook page and watches as readers stream into the website — first a few hundred, then nearly 1,000.

“Boom, dude, look at that,” Wade says. “That one is doing super well.”

Funny stuff coming from the corporate media. Like In a Mirror Darkly - I wonder which Spock has a goatee?

The media is supposed to be about Truth. But as we have just lived through a primary and electoral campaign where information was remanufactured daily into something barely recognizable, Truth was the first casualty.

Our "news" radio station out here in LA is KNX 1070 AM. On their business news show [KNX Business Hour] today was some journalist (sorry, didn't catch her name) who was trying to make this same point, only the cited "news" organizations she listed are among the most egregious distributors of truthiness which exist. KNX didn't see fit to text publish that segment, but for those with the stomach, that segment will rebroadcast at 8pm PST.

I rise very early so I can enter the salt mine on time, and my stenography makes hieroglyphics look like calligraphy. Therefore, if some brave soul wishes to add to my information by listening, you have my grateful support.
